From the blog: ...if we as an electorate truly did consider totally off limits all questions about what a candidate believes about God, the role of his faith in society and history and how his particular creed dictates that he behaves -- then I'd be fine with declaring articles like Denton's irrelevant if not beyond the pale. But it's a long tradition in our nation to assign at least some if not great significance to a candidate's religious beliefs -- to use them as a guide to the candidate's character, values and guiding lights. And to place greater and greater scrutiny on candidates the more they stray from mainstream Protestant beliefs. To the point that an avowed non believer would never -- could never -- be elected president based on that fact alone, and it's almost impossible to imagine voters or donors taking seriously a follower of Islam, Buddhism or Hinduism as a candidate for president.

How long have I been saying that?

Here's what I said Jan. 15 in a post:

Gullibility is a character issue. SOME beliefs don't remain upstairs as "abstract things."

They carry over into everyday decision-making.

For example, being pro-abortion isn't simply policy error. It's a horrendous character flaw -- being willing to sacrifice the least of these by dismemberment.

And it's not just gullibility serving as the tremendous character flaw.

It's also the idea that you're a baby god already and about to grow up into an adult god (Mormon/Romney belief). That's not just an abstract "belief" -- but the height of arrogance and pride!

Sorry...but when we're talking about THE leader of the free world, I don't vote for arrogant, prideful, gullible people with those faultlines running all through their character.

And guess what...Voters can -- and do -- take character into consideration whether you like it or not.

...

Oh. And why you're at it...why don't you also just rail against 92% of Evangelicals; 78% of Republicans; 2/3rds of Americans; and 55% of Democrats.

What do those percentages represent? Well, per a late 2006 Rasmussen poll, those were the percentages who thought weighing a candidate's religious beliefs to be important or very important.

Over half of Americans have also said in more than one poll that they wouldn't vote for a Muslim or atheist POTUS candidate. Go ahead. Show you're consistency. Start railing against all those voters.

Go ahead. We're waiting.

Oh...and while we're at it...Mitt Romney also said in '07 that he wouldn't put a Muslim in his cabinet.

From the blog: The Salon article "Mitt and the White Horse Prophecy A close look at the roots of Romney's -- and the Mormon church's -- political ambitions" by Sally Denton will no doubt be dismissed as a religious smear by those inclined to support Mitt Romney...

Here is something about Mitt personally performing proxy baptisms.

Was watching the History Channel yesterday, they were some thing on UFOs again.
Anyway, the did a ten minute segment of Joseph Smith and how the founding of mormonISM is being researched by UFOologists because it is clear JS was visited by extraterrestrials.
Further, they said mormonISM parallels Native Ameican, Hindu and islamic beliefs.
They also mentioned that the screen writer for Battlestar Galacatica, got his story line from the BofM. (That part I knew from the first episode - from the planet Kolob, the council of twelve........)

I printed that White Horse article out and gave copies to my 91 y/o mother and a friend of hers.

They freaked out, saying almost in unison, "OMG, are the people in Florida aware of this?"

But it's a long tradition in our nation to assign at least some if not great significance to a candidate's religious briefs -- to use them as a guide to the candidate's character, values and guiding lights.

Fixed!
