Every religion is allowed to have members run for public office. Catholics, Protestants, Mormons, Scientologists, Kali death cult members, Voodoo priests, Communist atheists, you name it, they are allowed to run.
That isn't the issue.
The issue is how we, as voters, can select candidates whose beliefs are most in alignment with our own, and who we judge to be most likely to perform their offices in a manner that we will like.
As such, ANY quality or attribute of the candidate is a valid subject for consideration in making that evaluation: religion, race, ethnicity, political ideology, whatever.
If I decide his religious beliefs will make him act counter to what I desire, then that is a factor.
If I judge his race will be a factor, in the sense of having more loyalty or favoritism to fellow members than to those not of his race, then that will be a factor.
If I decide his ideology is counter to the direction I want the country to go in, then that will be a factor.
“That is an lds tactic”
So, can I interest you in watching a video that could save your life?
Romney was a high official, Bishops are high officials.
Romney was a Stake president, and a Bishop, I believe the only above him was the 12 Apostles and the Prophet himself.
As Stake President Romney was in charge of one of the 22 districts, or diocese.
Way to go, again dealing with items that have not been stated, changing the subject and answering questions that have not been asked.
Thinking you are really working hard for your TR. A+++
Nope.
Amazing isn’t, that lds think the rest of us are so ignorant of their obfuscating behavior because of mormonISM.
“Show me where I said what you are accusing me of”
I accuse you of nothing but not knowing the difference between second-person singular and second-person plural personal pronouns
Ah, sorry, you wouldn’t have said something so ignorant.
Your was the ever brilliant “No you shouldn’t” (Vote for a Mormon) in post #66 of this thread.
There is so much stupidity on this thread, it’s hard to keep it straight. I apologize for attributing the wrong stupid comment to you.
And yet you keep hanging around here...
Thanks!
“And yet you keep hanging around here...”
I came for the stupidity, and I stay for the humor.
(that was a good one...)
Mormons believe they will be "gods" with their own planets to rule over. And YOU think we should not expose that. You, sir, are a fool.
Got it. You come here because of your stupidity, and you think we’re stupid.
Projection. Just like a liberal.
No, HIGH officials are Apostles and members of the Council of 12. Bishops are pastors of wards. Stake presidents are in charge of the Bishops of all the wards in each stake (something like a diocese) My dad was a stake president, for instance, and a bishop. But he was NOT a HIGH official.
"Romney was a Stake president, and a Bishop, I believe the only above him was the 12 Apostles and the Prophet himself. As Stake President Romney was in charge of one of the 22 districts."
See above.
“Projection. Just like a liberal.”
I liked your last joke better. This one isn’t even funny.
“You, sir, are a fool.”
I may well be, but what is truly foolish is to claim that an American should not exercise his God-given freedoms and rights and run for office because you say he will be “controlled” by his religion.
You can vote your stupidity all you want. But you are awfully thin-skinned when it comes to being accountable for your un-American views on religious freedom.
Having 13 people above you as Stake president, and another 22 or so if you are a Bishop, sounds pretty high up for an international organization of millions.
It is. But a very flowery one....LOL!!
That would have been me I do feel like that voting for Romney is voting against Jesus. I feel the same way about zero So IF Newt isn’t nominated I will vote down ticket for good conservatives and write in Newt!!
Now let me explain why I feel this way!!!
Blasphemy- the crime of assuming to oneself the rights or qualities of God
Heresy-any belief or theory that is strongly at variance with established beliefs, customs, etc.
