Otis Holland, 55, a Las Vegas pastor wanted on charges of having sex with underage girls, was captured on Wednesday, Jan. 25, in Mexico.
Holland disappeared from the Henderson area in June, after an arrest warrant was issued for him by the Henderson Police. The warrant was for 11 counts of sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16, one count of child abuse and conspiracy to commit a crime.
On a recent airing of Fox-TV's America's Most Wanted, the pastor's crimes were broadcast, bringing in a tip from a viewer who saw the program. The information was delivered to the U.S. Marshals Service, which had been working in conjunction with the Henderson Police in the search for Holland.
"He was a con man, and he used the church front for his schemes," said Kevin Abernathy, Henderson Police Department's lead investigator on the case, during the Jan. 20 airing of the show. "In the 19 years that I've been on the job, I would rank this as probably the worst case I've dealt with, as far as a predator identifying and abusing victims."
The Mexican National Police, coordinating with the U.S. Marshals Service, apprehended Holland without incident in Tijuana, Mexico, on Wednesday about 10 p.m., according to Javier Jimenez, assistant chief deputy U.S. Marshal.
Holland was deported from Mexico and custody was turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service. He currently is being held in the San Diego Central Jail pending extradition back to Henderson.
In December 2010, the pastor originally was arrested on three counts of sexual assault of a victim under 16. Upon investigation by detectives, however, it was discovered that there were allegations that Holland may have had inappropriate contact with other minors, too.
Holland was arrested in January 2011 on a felony count of lewdness with a minor under 14 years old, which involved allegations from yet another girl.
The current arrest warrant for Holland stems from an investigation involving two additional girls who came forward about a month before Holland fled the area.
Holland acted as pastor of the United Faith Church, which had been holding its services in the lobby of a tax service business on Hacienda Avenue in Las Vegas. The alleged incidents involving Holland are said to have occurred at various locations in Henderson and Las Vegas.
welcome to the club, we’re all that way. But, as sinners, that does not reflect on the glory and goodness of our creator, who is without sin. Because we sin in minor ways or this scum sinned in major ways it bears no reflection on the doctrine of Christ.
The why do you post thread after thread which seem to focus on Christians.
well, because I am Christian, so I’m going to post articles that focus on Christian news — most of it is good, some of it is bad.
I disagree; there is an obvious trend to what you have been posting. News related to Catholics is good. News related to non-catholic Christians is always bad.
Why would you do such a thing?
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
No, I don’t think I will. Spreading discord is not showing grace.
In other words, you don’t want to say what motivates you to post such a story. The weather is a story every day. Why would you chose this story over a story about today’s weather?
Simple — it talks about a pastor arrested in Mexico for sexual assault. Fact. Just like the Baptist pastor Eddie Long crowned himself King of the Jews. Just like the Westboro Baptist loonies make fools of themselves again. you don’t like that news? Don’t read it.
Again, today’s weather is a fact also, but did you chose to post about it? So it’s not just that it’s a ‘fact’. Let me try to help you figure out why you would post it. How many stories have you posted about priests raping little boys?
I call shenanigans on your comments.
First, he “created” this church of the “what’s happening now” religion. I saw footage of him on the AMW show berating his “flock” for lack of trust, etc. when these allegations first began to surface amongst his congregation. This jerkwad had no “supervisor”. Deliberately misrepresenting is the same as lying.
The first arrest occurred in Dec 2010, he was then subsequently arrested in Jan 2011 for additional charges.
Then more allegations surfaced in May, about a month before he fled to Mexico (June).
Show proof or provide sources which support your assertions that the; “entire congregation, law enforcement, and the press and others who approved.” Or retract the false statements.
You are slandering all of those people you mention and have not provided any proof to support it.
See, admitting your true motives wasn’t that hard, was it? Now let’s try for an answer to an earlier question that you also avoided. Would you be willing to tell your priest of your efforts here concerning pastors and children? If not, then why? If yes, please do and mail me his reaction. I’m betting you would cower at the thought of telling him because you know he would justifiably rebuke you.
Would you be willing to tell your pastor...?
yup -- why not?
Would you be willing to tell your pastor of what antics you do and the names you call Christians in FR's religion forum?
the difference is that your pastor won't rebuke you when you tell him -- speaks a lot about a pastor like that, right?
I have called no names nor am up to any ‘antics’. And then you attack the character of a pastor you have never met? Shameless.
My pastor would and does rebuke improper behavior. Its obvious you are making a general assumption about Christian pastors.
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
The simple answer? It's called...PAYBACK. AKA, revenge threads. Childish? Yep.
I think it is very misguided for people to judge church, religion, God on the deeds of a few individuals. I think they do not understand the power Satan has (as a force of evil) over all of us. And, as Pope John Paul ll believed, Satan has cunningly learned how to bring otherwise good people into accepting abortion. Satan has learned from his actions with the communists and nazi’s of last century and has become more cunnning. This cultural move to take religion out of the mainstream, to not discuss with others because religion is “private” is the work of evil as well. We need to recognize these dangers...and to stand up courageously against evil wherever we confront it. This is the choice I have made recently. No longer the sheep waiting for slaughter, no more passively sitting by as our children’s lives are destroyed by the doctrine being taught them from the liberals. To accomplish this we must not tear down other Christian sects...we must support each other. We do all worship the same God afterall. We must confront the evil and teach those able to understand what is really going on regarding good and evil.
I just came by this verse...it applies beautifully to what we are discussing:
Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
