WASHINGTON, D.C., February 8, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) After pro-abortion House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi defied Americas bishops last week by proclaiming she would stand with her fellow Catholics in support of President Obamas contraception mandate, one of the webs most prominent priest-bloggers has issued an impassioned plea for her bishops to deny her Holy Communion in accord with canon law.
For the good of souls, Nancy Pelosi must be denied Holy Communion and the Catholic people should be informed that she is being denied Holy Communion, wrote Fr. John Zuhlsdorf (aka Fr. Z) on his blog Tuesday.
Fr. Zuhlsdorf is calling on Archbishop George Niederauer of San Francisco and Cardinal Donald Wuerl to invoke canon 915, which states that those who have been obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.
Niederauer has said in the past that he was considering denying Pelosi Communion, but Wuerl has said such an act would turn the Eucharist into a weapon.
The priest got support Tuesday from leading canon lawyer Dr. Edward Peters, who holds the Edmund Cardinal Szoka Chair at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit and serves as a consultant to the Vaticans highest court.
On his In the Light of the Law blog, Dr. Peters writes that Pelosi is perhaps the best case for applying canon 915 in the United States.
If her prolonged public conduct does not qualify as obstinate perseverance in manifest grave sin, then, in all sincerity, I must admit to not knowing what would constitute obstinate perseverance in manifest grave sin, he writes.
Last Wednesday, a CNSnews.com reporter asked Pelosi if she would stand with her fellow Catholics in resisting the contraception mandate, which would force Catholic institutions to offer coverage of contraception to employees.
In reply, Pelosi, a self-professed devout Catholic, said, First of all, I am going to stick with my fellow Catholics in supporting the Administration on this. I think it was a very courageous decision that they made, and I support it.
Catholics have been calling for Pelosis bishops to invoke canon 915 for many years, but her remarks last week were particularly poignant as at least 169 Catholic bishops across the country, representing over 90% of the countrys dioceses, have blasted the mandate, in many cases ensuring that letters were read to the faithful during Sunday Mass calling the mandate unconstitutional and unjust.
Nancy Pelosi considers it consistent with what Catholics do to take a stand against the bishops in favor of a policy that would force Catholic institutions to violate the teachings of her Church, wrote Fr. Zuhlsdorf, noting that she is one of the most visible public figures in America.
Your Excellency? Your Eminence? How much longer does this have to go on? What else does she have to do? he asked.
To concerns that such a strong action would launch a media firestorm, Fr. Zuhlsdorf replied, Damn straight! Let there be national repercussions and a media firestorm.
Nancy Pelosi has publicly chosen sides against the Catholic Churchs teachings and against the bishops, he said. Let her choice be publicly confirmed by those same bishops.
According to Dr. Peters, Pelosis comments suggest that her views like Pharaohs heart, have only hardened with time.
Canon 915 is not about impositions on individual conscience, its about public consequences for public behavior, he said. Its about taking people at their word and acknowledging the character of their actions. Its about not pretending that people dont really mean what they repeatedly say and what they repeatedly do.
My view is that Nancy Pelosi deserves to be deprived of holy Communion to bring home to her and to the wider faith community the gravity of her conduct and the need to avoid such conduct altogether or, that failing, at least to repent of it. Quickly, he said.
Nancy Pelosi obviously means exactly what she says, and she regularly backs up her words with deeds. She deserves to be taken seriously. Very seriously, he added.
LifeSiteNews.com did not hear back from the Archdioceses of San Francisco or Washington by press time.
To contact Archbishop Niederauer:
To contact Cardinal Wuerl:
Since Pelosi spends most of her time in Washington, contact Cardinar Wuerl, first. Ironically, he just appeared as a guest on Fox News, to explain the problems with the mandate. Give him an earful!
Nutsy commits the sin of sacrelige each time she stands (as in the Novus Ordo), or kneels to receive the Host.
That woman, and those of her ilk, should have been excommunicated long ago.
Does she even go to church??? (Except, maybe, when elections roll around.)
It’s all a big yawn unless and until the Catholic hierarchy finds the courage to publically and vocally excommunicate them all.
But we know that won’t happen. The ‘long march’ of the Gramscian, Machiavellian LEft has largely corrupted not only the Catholic sphere and outlook, but also those of every other mainstream religion.
Bell, Book, and Candle!
Obama’s goning to find a “compromise” that the church heirachy will swallow...another deal with evil. Then this will all be forgotten by the media and the people on election day.
Wait til the second term. Obama and his fellow communists will take no prisoners. They are gonna come after the Christian churches with the Justice Dept and the Courts. And perhaps most importantly, with the IRS.
Wait and see...it’s gonna happen because Romney will lose.
Nancy Pelosi’s Favorite Word (blah!)
“Wait and see...its gonna happen because Romney will lose.”
If we get our $h** together, ROMNEY WON’T BE THE NOMINEE!!!
Hey, I know - I get discouraged often, lately. But it’s still early and we don’t have to let the Left and the GOP establishment win this thing.
And look for America to have its second revolution.
It may happened, since we had that sweep of Santorum.
American Catholics are to invested in the Democrat Party to offend the party by doing this.
Catholics, especially those in public office, who are complicit, be it directly or indirectly, in abortion, automatically incur excommunication latae sententiae ref. Essentially, she should not present herself for communion. Her bishop, however, is supposed to privately address this issue with her. T/his may have already been done; we are not privy to that information. Pray for her immortal soul!

Shame on you Cardinal Wuerl for spitting in their faces.
see my post #15.
**canon 915, which states that those who have been obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.**
American Catholics need to ask the Holy Office to conduct an “instructional survey” of North America, in that it is so filled with heterodoxy and heresies, to determine where error exists, providing a confidential report to each bishop.
Logically, such a survey would best be carried out by an order like the Dominicans, covering every element of the church including schools and hospitals.
There was an attempt to do a small survey of uncloistered nuns, which was met with great contempt and disobedience, which should be a warning flag that something is gravely amiss. Likewise, the openly anti-Catholic actions of schools and hospitals has become scandalous.
A few may pray for the enemy but I will never soil my prayer time with her image while speaking with Him. I’ll let God sort this person’s soul out, and when this lukewarm religion either bends or gets back to their core-beliefs, it will be of little consequence, Komen caved, and the rest of these so-called faiths shall bow as well. P.C.Secualarism (religion) is the new tool the socialist have tweeked, and the only one’s noticing are the 47% who want to enslave the rich for their own, no-federal-tax paying failures. A guy, in print, for a major American newspaper acually asserts that: ‘we have no idea what accually causes poverty’, then goes on to blame society, while ignoring the nagging truth that allot of people are extreemly lazy and are happy living off you and me, with not even a hint of gratitude-—it’s somehow due-them now; and we are their piggy-bank.
Wuerl has a limp spine. He speaks the line but does not walk it.
If a majority of the Catholic’s in her Diocese withheld their weekly checks until they decide to withold Communion from her, I think you would see some action from the Bishop and whatever church she attends.
How long before the clergy get the intestinal fortitude that Jesus had when he jumped the money changers? The clergy should deny Nancy Pelosi and any other politician who backs abortion the right to recieve Holy Communion. Until they do, they are complicit in the act. Let us show who we are.
Nice - hadnt seen that before. The next step is to refuse Communion to her, along with the other RAT’s who support this policy. I doubt it would happen though.
