"Are coercive government control and subsidized sexual freedom more important than religious freedom?"
-- Mark Tooley, IRD President

WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- The United Methodist General Board of Church and Society, along with the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, which includes the Episcopal Church, Presbyterian Church (USA) and United Church of Christ, have stunningly endorsed Obamacare's mandate that all religious hospitals and charities must provide insurance coverage for contraceptives, abortifacients, and sterilization, despite religious objections.

In contrast, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, National Association of Evangelicals, Southern Baptist and Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod leaders and others have condemned the mandate as an assault on religious liberty. Megachurch pastor Rick Warren has declared: "I'd go to jail rather than cave in to a government mandate that violates what God commands us to do."

IRD President Mark Tooley commented:

No one should be stunned by this. The leadership of these groups have been in the bag for abortion and socialism for decades.

I guess it took something like this to separate the sheep from the goats.

Put me under the Evangelicals who support the Catholic Church on this issue.

I guess the article entirely missed the point ...

It is CHOICE vs. REQUIREMENT ...

If a particular religion CHOOSES to participate, that is fine. BUT, if it is FORCED to participate [AGAINST its beliefs] - IT IS NOT FINE.

Uhhhh, but what about those Catholic Universities that SUPPORT birth control plans for their employees:

Georgetown University
Boston College
University of Scranton
University of San Francisco
DePaul University
Christian Brothers University

Can we talk about them?

Wasn't it "Peeps Diary" where Samual Johnson was regularly criticizing the Methodist Church for eating babies?

We always laughed at that ~ but maybe it's true?

This should be investigated more thoroughly.

Does any one wonder why i quit Church a long time ago? a form of Godliness but deny the power there of, not that i take a position on abortion one hundred percent, i do believe there are reasons for it but freedom of choice is not any reason.

I saw long ago that the Churches were adopting the principles of the world, what ever the Government excepts is exceptable to most Churches.

The government has become a religion and the churches are abandoning Christ and taking up this religion.

Yes-—but doesn’t he back homosexual “marriage”. No Christian can accept such an unnatural, dysfunctional, vile urge to “sodomy” as “good”. To advocate such a design of man by God is even scientifically vacuous and is unnatural by all Natural Laws (Common Sense).

Acceptance of “homosexual” marriage can’t happen—even “civil” unions-—it is a sin; US government laws have to promote the general welfare (virtue). Just Law can never promote immorality—if it does, it is unjust. Homosexual “marriage” promotes dysfunction and evil to children and rescinds their natural rights and the Duty of parents to raise their own offspring. It destroys the very reason social contracts were created in the US.

It will always be a sin and can not with good conscience be considered as a “Right” from God—which is the Standard and foundation of our Constitution. It is ludicrous and irrational even to “talk” about such silly, bizarre, destructive thinking.

But all Marxists are pushing it to destroy the two pillars of Western Civilization: Christianity and the natural family. Destroy those two things and you destroy virtue. Single parent kids make up more than 90% of prisons—exactly what the marxists planned when they took God out of the schools in the fifties.

Either our government is ‘Under God’ or ‘Under Satan’. That is the cultural war that Chambers wrote about in the 50s; God v. Man.

I’ve heard of that, but I’m sure it wasn’t true — at that time, anyway.

Some “churches” would burn babies if it meant serving their messiah’s (Obama’s) cause.

Samuel Pepys died in 1703, six years before Samuel Johnson was born, and even longer before there was such a thing as the Methodist Church. It’s possible that James Boswell quotes Samuel Johnson on the Methodists (who were a movement within the Church of England before they became a separate denomination). Samuel Johnson had strong opinions on a lot of subjects.

I am afraid you are right. Take the overwhelming majority of Black churches today....Is there anything that you can think of that would diminish Obama’s popularity in their eyes? I can not think any thing. Nothing he has done or said has had any impact on the majority of American Black Christians. He is the messiah who takes precedence over the real One.

To control....

what the religious can say
where the religious can pray
why the religious must obey
who the religious must abort
how the religious will learn
how much the religious can earn

I guess the point of conception is now, in its conceit, no longer above 0bama’s pay grade—since his power grade is above anyone’s.

Spread your legs, girls and boys. Sex in any form, position or condition is free.

Next up—FORCED abortions and sterlizations. See John Holdren and Cass Sunstein.

It would be nice if we could get a complete roll-call vote published. My guess is the denominations supporting Gay marriage and Gay clergy will line up with ObaMao. And those opposing the pink mafia will likewise be opposed to this power grab.

Catholic, or Jesuit? Then two are no longer the same. The Holy Father should dissolve the order, just to avoid the taint.

John Wesley would be horrified by what the Methodist Church in the United States is doing.
