Jacksonville Church Hires Registered Sex Offender as Pastor, Bans Children from Service

The Lord may be forgiving. Sex offender laws? Not so much.

A Baptist church in Jacksonville has hired a registered sex offender as its new pastor, but because a court has ruled the he's not allowed to have "unsupervised contact with children under 18 years old," the church has decided to ban kids from its Sunday services.

Back in 2009, Darrell Gilyard pleaded guilty to charges of lewd conduct and lewd molestation according to News4Jax.com. At the time Gilyard was a pastor at Shiloh Baptist Church. His victims were female members of his congregation under 18. He molested one 15-year-old girl and sent a lewd text message to another.

Gilyward was released from jail on December 28 and began preaching at the Christ Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in late January.

As part of his three-year probation, Gilyard cannot have any unsupervised contact with children. However, even any supervised contact must be OK'd by a therapist. He must also enroll in a sex offender therapy program before supervised contact is allowed. Gilyard says he's enrolled in such a program, and his attorneys have filed a motion seeking to clarify the terms of his probation and to allow children in the church while he's at the pulpit according to Jacksonville.com.

In the meantime, the church has decided to ban all children from Sunday service.

"Somehow I will prove that life isn't over when one has committed a crime for which he receives this heinous label," Gilyard told a Jacksonville.com reporter through text message. "You don't have to languish on the fringes of society."

Oddly, Gilyard's arrival at the church has caused a spike in attendance. Before Gilyard joined the church about 10 members came to service. Now the numbers are between 150 and 200.

So they are punishing the children to accomodate someone who isn’t biblically qualified to be a Pastor in the first place? Some “church”!

What’s the point of a church without kids under 18-yrs-old?

This is one of those assemblies where savage wolves have entered and led them after him. If they are believers, at all.

Bunch of weirdos calling themselves a Baptist church in order to cash in on the tax exempt status.

But no children. Insanity. Pure insanity. There's no decency or common sense anymore.

If that’s the case real Baptists should do whatever they can to shut the church down.

Suffer the little children to come unto me... it would be better if a millstone were hung around his neck and cast in the sea.

Just because the building looks like a church, and has a church sign out front, does not make it a church. Behind those doors anything could be going on....
Probably needs to be investigated for criminal behavior.

I predict the ‘pastor’ will express shock and surprise when the church sees a rapid decline in membership in the near future...

I’m wondering what he will be meaning when he will say to treat each other nicely, or tend the other cheek, for that matter. Mary Magdalene was not stoned, but she still had to accept being divorced.

The Lord could forgive Hitler, if he repented. So this guy could be forgiven by the Lord, and even by the church.

But he should never again be a pastor. Just like the fellow that runs off with the organist, or cavorts with a deacon’s wife, his witness is no longer effective, and he should find another career.

OOPS! I guess I should have read the whole article before posting.

"Oddly, Gilyard's arrival at the church has caused a spike in attendance. Before Gilyard joined the church about 10 members came to service. Now the numbers are between 150 and 200."

That's certainly hard for me to comprehend, but maybe all the perverts in the area were just waiting for a pastor they were 'comfortable' with...

Darrell Gilyard

I don't know if he's any relation to Clarence Gilyard.

Huh? Went from 10 members to almost 200 since they hired him.

Something sounds fishy from this report.

I think attendance spiked-
Because:

1. He has invited fellow sex perverts
2. It may be a scam church (doing illegal things)
3. local Satanists think it is cool-
4. Alot of people hate children

please feel free to add-
Really I thought this was from the ONION!
