Wasn’t it a Russian who said that Voters do not count? The ones who count are those who count the votes?
I have no doubt Putin will win.

Russia is a vast territory in search of a reason for its vastness, instead of a sound territoriality in and of itself.

Mikhail Gorbachev who says Putins political party is a bad copy of the Soviet Communist Party: anti-freedom and corrupt. 1993 : (PARLIAMENT OF WORLD RELIGIONS : "RELIGIOUS LEADERS" ADOPT THE DECLARATION "TOWARDS THE GLOBAL ETHIC" ... WHICH WOULD LEAD TO THE FORMATION OF THE EARTH CHARTER BY FORMER SOVIET PRESIDENT MIKHAIL GORBACHEV AND CANADIAN 'ENVIRONMENTALIST' MAURICE STRONG ----- See also CATHOLIC DISSIDENT HANS KUNG AND HIS "GLOBAL ETHICS PROJECT," -----see EARTH CHARTER)

You forget one thing - The Russian Orthodox Church. They survived Lenin, Stalin, Brezhnev, and the Communist Party for 75 years of outright persecution. They truly see themselves as the 3rd Rome, and rightful heirs to be the True Christian Church. After all they have been through, they will not give in to a punk like Putin. The Russian people by and large are very faithful, and always have been True Believers. Their faith will surprise you. Я православный!

I would not be surprised if Putin did everything within his power to have himself declared Tsar. He certainly appreciates the power of the state, but I see him as much more of a nationalist/imperialist than the old Soviet premiers who were at least nominally, communist internationalists.
I think Putin likes the window dressing of free markets as long as they can be manipulated from behind the scenes to benefit himself and his cronies.
I must say, that while I see him as a dangerous man, I still have respect for him in the same way I respect grizzly bears and great white sharks.
