Kids at Soule Road School in Wilbraham, MA ate green veggies and wore green today but, begorra, under no circumstances were they celebrating St. Patrick’s Day! Instead, it was “Happy O’Green Day.”
“Inclusive and diverse,” and to “ease any discomfort that may go along with celebrating St. Patrick’s Day” was the (non) reasoning behind the name change, according to principal Lisa Curtain.
“Not so,” says the more diplomatic school superintendent, M. Michael O’Shea who undoubtedly has his share of Irish ancestry.

What discomfort goes along with celebrating St. Patrick's Day... well, other than waking up on the 18th?
I wonder what happens there when the next muslim holiday falls on a Saturday......
To be inclusive and diverse, you are not able to celebrate anything.
Think about it. Does everybody celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? No. Does everybody celebrate Thanksgiving? No. Does everybody celebrate the 4th fo July? No.
Carried to its logical conclusion, does this mean that we have to bend over backwards to those who don’t celebrate a certain holiday or occasion???
Can I ask the stupid question of who has discomfort about celebrating St. Patrick’s Day? Those who don’t want to go drink green beer that day? Who exactly is offended by this “not really a holiday” called St. Patrick’s Day?
Is this Lisa Curtain upset that it is “St. Patrick’s Day”, and thus named for a saint? Is that her beef? I wonder if she’s liberal. I wonder if she is concerned about “separation of church and state” if anyone says anything about St. Patrick’s Day in her school.........................
St. Patrick had an incredible life story. You would think the teacher would have at least read it as a multi-cultural lesson.
I wonder if they’ll have the same “sensitivity” for Cinco de Mayo. “Brown Day”? :-)
I must be living in some parallel universe.
Personally, I find adding the O’ to green as being much more offensive and highly insensitive to anyone whose name begins with the O’.

How is banning the namesake being “inclusive”?
When school administrators or other high mucky-mucks use phrases like “diverse and inclusive,” you know these people are brain-dead, leftist automatons. “Social justice” is another giveaway phrase.
In my part of the country, western Wisconsin, there are thousands of people of Norwegian descent. In May they like to celebrate Syttende Mai the date when the Norskies won their independence from Sweden in 1817. In towns that are predominately Norwegian-descended (like Westby,Wisconsin), they have parades and celebrations. I highly doubt anybody of non-Norwegian descent is offended by these events.
