One thing that is truly amazing and humbling about him is when he goes to confession. He can go to anybody for confession. He goes to an old fashion confessional in a Manhattan church at times. The catch is he goes in with civilian clothes does not tell the priest before or after that he is the cardinal or bishop at the time.

That truly is a humble beautiful Christian man. He does not have to do it. Just amazing Christian.

He’s awsome too when he HEARS confession. There is no hurrying him.

When he first came to Milwaukee, he made it a point to visit every parish for Mass. He also came back to our church to hear confessions the first Eeaster he was here. There were about 6 other priests in attendance. After the preliminaries, people lined up in front of which ever priest they wanted to hear their confession.

Of course, everybody wanted the new Archbishop, so a long line formed in front of him. He had the center station. THe first person in line was an elderly lady — tiny in stature. This mountain of a man put his hand on her shoulder and leaned over her and heard her confession, and heard her confession and heard her confession. The line I was in progressed through about 15 people, and Dolan was still hearing the first, little, old lady.

Apparently, she really needed to talk, and he was willing to listen. I thought it was touching.
