Catholic Bishop Won’t Let Foundation Present Scholarship to Gay Iowa Student at Award Ceremony

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Overruling school officials, a Catholic bishop in Iowa said Monday he would not let a group that promotes equal rights for gays and lesbians present a college scholarship to an openly gay student during an upcoming award ceremony.

Bishop Martin Amos in Davenport said the Eychaner Foundation would not be allowed to present the Matthew Shepard Scholarship to Keaton Fuller during the May 20 ceremony at Prince of Peace Catholic School in Clinton, saying the group’s support for gay rights conflicts with church doctrine.

The announcement comes after a school official signed a document last month that promised to let a representative of the foundation’s scholarship committee present the award to Fuller.

In an open letter released Monday, Fuller said he’s never felt so “invalidated and unaccepted” as he did when he heard that news last week. He said he and his family were asking the school to reverse its decision, and he launched an online petition Monday that was signed by hundreds of supporters within its first hours.

“This whole ordeal has been incredibly hurtful, and I am even sadder that this will be one of my last experiences to remember my high school years by,” Fuller wrote.

The bishop’s decision also stunned school officials, who had encouraged Fuller to apply for the award and wrote letters on his behalf.

News for Fuller:your behavior in invalid and unacceptable.

Hurray to the bishop for standing up to the perverts.I am so tired of the news media cheerleading for homosexual perversion on one hand while they condemn the Catholic church for pedophile priests on the other.

The kid still gets the scholarship, which is discriminatory because it only will go to a gay kid. So which is worse?

The board and adult teachers and staff used this boy, encouraged and entertained his gay misbehaviors at school events on campus, lauded his his gay advocacy in every breath, and generally set him and his parents up for the purpose of this scenic showdown with the Bishop at scholarship time to make it all official. This, “official”, business was the big pay off, or suppose to be. Perhaps the Fuller family was complicit all along.

But, surely the Bishop had already dropped the hammer on these anti-Catholic habits goings-on in his diocese. The faculty seems to me only mildly surprised, in my opinion. This isn’t over. It’s eeriely suspect. Praying for this Bishop. It is he who is being set up.

Catholic schools have long been subverted by liberals. It is like the era of the counterreformation where tough bishop fought the quasi-protestant priest in their parishes as they applied the reforms prescribed at Trent. Seminary trained priests continually clashed with the older priests, and only where the bishop was on board did they have an easy time.

Thank you Bishop Amos for standing up against the perverts.
You will be hated and attacked by the perverts and the Government for your stand. Never waiver. God gives us the strength to endure and overcome.

You know what is even more hurtful? Eternal damnation in Hell fire for acting on your perverted impulses! You should thank the Bishop for trying to save your immortal soul from eternity in unbearable pain!

Good for the Bishop. I wish we had a lot more like him.

If the gay kid is so hurt over this maybe he should do himself in. He’s an idiot if he doesn’t understand that his lifestyle choice is a sin and can not be accepted by the church or a Catholic school.

This is just another example of how gay’s are trying to corrupt everything in their quest for special rights.

1. “This whole ordeal has been incredibly hurtful, and I am even sadder that this will be one of my last experiences to remember my high school years by,” Fuller wrote.
My comment: TOUGH TEDDYBEARS.

SO true. You hit the nail on the head.

3. The Catholic Church has been dealing with set-ups for 2000 years. The Medicis come to mind. These folks, both the board and adult teachers, are babies/pimps, compared to some of the minds and families the Church has dealt with over the MILLENIA.

"If the gay kid is so hurt over this maybe he should do himself in."

That is a truly despicable comment.

Here is a boy created by Almighty God in His image and likeness, of incalculable worth, damaged by the consequences of sin, misled by parents and teachers, used as a pawn by gay advocacy organizations, headed for a world of deep personal confusion and hurt, and you suggest he should kill himself?

Your comment is perverse. The demons want this boy destroyed. You are advancing the program.

Somehow, I see this bishop getting reprimanded and suspended for going against the “gay.” Watch and see if he doesn’t go down over this.

You are very much mistaken. I didn't say God made him gay. I said God made him a human being and does not want him to destroy himself.

If you had read what I wrote, you would see that I say he has been used and exploited by sin-promoters.

I await your apology for misconstruing what I said about gay sin; and for suggesting suicide for a boy who needs guidance in virtue, not self-destruction.

Seems to me the only one here who advocated sin is the one who said someone should kill themselves. Nothing Mrs. Don- O said advocated acting on homosexualist behaviour.

Here’s a tip: You are in the religion forum, so maybe click on the r.mod’s name and read the rules. It is different from general FR forums.

You’ll be waiting for a long time. I am not sorry for saying what I believe he should do. That is my opinion and I am free to have it.

Don’t agree, that’s your opinion and you’re free to have it.

Now bugger off and go preach to someone who cares. I don’t.

Don’t care. You’re wasting your time. I am sick of the gay agenda and those who pander to them.

No apology will be coming from me for speaking my mind.
