GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, May 11, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) The mayor of Grand Rapids told a Planned Parenthood fundraiser that the forces of darkness are behind the drive to cut off taxpayer funding of the nations largest abortion provider.
George Heartwell delivered the keynote address at the annual fundraiser for Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan on Thursday. Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell. Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell bashed conservative Christians.
The news website Mlive.com reports Heartwell, who is a former Planned Parenthood chairman, praised the organization for serving more than 10,000 vulnerable women last year.
Whats not to love about that? he asked a crowd of several hundred activists and donors.
Yet every year the forces of darkness seek to deprive women of the health care and reproductive education they get through Planned Parenthood, he intoned.
In an apparent reference to the Rush Limbaugh-Sandra Fluke controversy, he said the agencys clients are often demonized by legislators and talk show hosts.
Heartwell, who is a former Planned Parenthood chairman, is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, after leaving the Reformed Church in America. He has served as mayor since 2004.

The city mayors office is nonpartisan, but Mlive.com states Heartwell has supported many Democrats in the past.
As a first-term city council member in 1991, Heartwell proposed adding gender orientation to the citys non-discrimination ordinance. It passed in 1994 over the heated objection of the majority of the towns residents. Most troubling to me were the clergy who came forward and spoke in opposition, he told the local LGBTQ history project. Maybe most disappointing was the opposition of African-American clergy, who then and still today, many, refuse to accept this as the modern civil rights leading edge that there is a civil rights issue at stake here.
Before being elected mayor, Heartwell taught community leadership at Aquinas College, an inclusive educational community rooted in the Catholic Dominican tradition that provides a liberal arts education with a global perspective.
Planned Parenthoods luncheon comes as the group is preparing for its Stop the War on Women Rally May 24 on Rosa Parks Circle. The event is held in conjunction with the local chapters of the ACLU, the National Organization for Women, and the Progressive Womens Alliance.
The press kit for Thursdays fundraiser included a condom, according to Mlive.com. Last years fundraiser luncheon earned the group $85,000.
Go “Forces of Darkness!” Turn out the lights the on Planned “Parenthood.”
(Since Planned Parenthood seems to be about the abortions, shouldn’t be Planned anti-Parenthood?)
“Go Forces of Darkness! Turn out the lights the on Planned Parenthood.”
Well that is one way of looking at it!!!
if the ‘darkness’ is trying to stop the killing of babies...
would the funding of baby killing be considered the blistering red hot center of evil in the darkest pits of hell?
Or Banned Parenthood.
Or --- with reference to their racialist demographic reduction schemes:
UCC = Unitarians Considering Christ
Amplified Bible (AMP)
20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
"At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved."
"Woe to you that call evil good, and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter"
Two great minds think a like. Lol!!
Yes! To call evil good and good evil.
I hate this world system.
I pray for us.
Can you tell me more about the UCC? Never heard of them. Or have I? Thanks.
Uhhh... sorry Bozo, you've got that backwards. It's the "forces of darkness" that are funding the nation's largest abortion provider.
Love being “counter-culture” particularly with this current social culture!
The mayor of Grand Rapids told a Planned Parenthood fundraiser, "It is important to stop the forces of darkness from cutting off funding to the nations largest abortion provider so that they can continue to exterminate the dark people and other inferiors."
They're a mainline Protestant denomination primarily resulting in the mish-mash together of various Evangelical, Reformed, and Lutheran components. They have about a million members in the U.S. They're into civil rights, gay rights, women's rights and abortion rights. They call themseves "an extremely pluralistic and diverse denomination" but of course not so madly diverse as to attract or retain people with the beliefs of historic Chritianity..
Could never figure why a conservative town like Grand Rapids keeps re-electing a commie socialist scum like Hartwell??
**Heartwell, who is a former Planned Parenthood chairman, is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, after leaving the Reformed Church in America. He has served as mayor since 2004.**
Unbelievable that any Christian Church would endorse, yet alone work for, Planned Parenthood.
Has he not heard the Commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.”
????????????????????Shaking my head.
