I've been wondering how the Catholic Church would respond to Obama's support of gay marriage. I guess I have my answer and I'm not surprised. They plan to support him and their members intend to vote for him, just like they did last time. He keeps bashing at them and they just roll over and ask for more. I guess the Jews will vote for him again also. It's almost like they just hate it when he makes them make these difficult choices.

I just don't get it! Don't religion and Christianity have any base in morality these days?

You are painting with a huge brush. There are plenty of Catholics who do not and never will support gay marriage or Obama. I know a priest who has flat out stated he'll go to prison or dead before he ever performs a so called gay marriage in the church. He further stated he is not alone in his staunch attitude.

He comes not as Bishop but as pilgrim to dialogue about the situation of homosexuals and lesbians in the Catholic Church who often feel marginalised and discriminated against. The dialogue was peaceful and directed towards facts. The reason that homosexuals and lesbians don’t leave the church is often professional as the Catholic Church is the biggest employee in the region of social work and carers.

For Bishop Ackermann, the visit was not a problem even though such an encounter does not happen everyday. “I had a big surprise when I received the invitation but this was important”. What have you learnt from the discussion? “I did not come here just for coffee and we had a serious discussion and their are matters that have to be thought over, not least the relationship of the Church to homosexuals and lesbians. We know that this is not without tension. We must have regard for the other and listen to them respectfully, this is something which I take from here, for instance. The Catholic Church is strong in the region of Trier- one has to take notice of where there are pressure points and possible occasions when people feel defensive. For many of those concerned, it is important to remain in the Church, associated with the hope of step by step removing discrimination and marginalisation.

Representative of the centre- I was very happy he came to visit us and that he said that there were matters for the Church to thinkover. This was important. He went as far as his office allowed. The centre is not far from the Cathedral, a stone’s throw but the formal distance is still great.

Cardinal Dolan of New York condemned Obama’s decision. He is the chairman of the US Bishops’ conference. He has been condemning Obama a lot recently.

The Catholic Church is working to clean out the filth that entered since the 60’s and the effort seems to be speeding up recently. The liberal sisters/nuns group LCWR (Leadership Conference of Women Religious) got slapped just the other week and changes will be made and overseen by a conservative bishop. Meanwhile conservative groups in the Catholic Church are often growing in numbers, and bucking the US secular trends.

The same as their responses to pro-abortion, pro gay marriage "Catholics" like Joe Biden, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, etc.

I agree with you, but must tell you that I read that in the 1930s the communists infiltrated the Catholic church by entering seminaries and pretending to accept Catholic teachings. In all the years since, many have become priests, monsignors, and even bishops. The Church itself has never changed and eventually will be delivered from these people as Jesus Christ predicted. Keep the Faith.

The link doesn’t work for me, but is this a place where the Priest is blessing the AIDS patients? I don’t have a problem with this if that is in fact why he is visiting. I mean jesus prayed over the sick and sinful constantly.

You obviously haven't been listening to what the USCCB has been saying, lately. Yes, some Bishops will still try to 'minister' to homosexuals, because, they ARE children of God, and need to be reminded of that. Doesn't mean the Bishops accept the lifestyle.

Still, there are some Bishops who are squishier than others, because they have been influenced by the idea of 'fairness', but they, thankfully, are not leading the USCCB.

Actually, it's you with your head in the sand who keeps making excuses.
I've been listening and have yet to hear of one baby killing, homo lovin' Dem who's been publicly excommunicated.
The church is still in favor of open borders too - "Cardinal Dolan: US Needs Compassionate Immigration Reform."

You may not have noticed the recent “spring cleaning” that has been going on, including going after the leadership of women’s religious orders.

The good news is that, with more of the liberal generation retiring, you will see a much conservative generation emerging.

Open borders is a completely different animal from abortion and gay marriage. I personally wish the bishops would give Caesar his due and stay out of the immigration debate. Should we be ministering to the illegals? Absolutely. But actively trying to open our country to them? That's a matter of opinion not Christian doctrine.

True, they haven't been excommunicated, likely because the Bishops don't want to wade in that swamp.

My Faith isn't threatened by others who may abuse their own. I don't believe in Jesus, or His Church any less, because some who CLAIM to do so live like He means nothing to them.
