Talk about burying the lede.
The mainstream press has been on a tear ever since President Barack Obama announced that his liberal Christian faith had inspired him to change his beliefs on the definition of marriage. One of the most common stories, produced by news outlet after news outlet, has focused on the ways that this doctrinal issue has divided various groups of believers.
This is a totally valid story to be covering, since believers on both sides of this issue are separated by centuries of doctrine and tradition. Here are the pivotal paragraphs in a typical New York Times report. However, when reading this passage, prepare yourself for the stealth blockbuster:
Mr. Obamas declaration last week that he supports same-sex marriage prompted ministers around the country to take to their pulpits on Sunday and preach on the issue. But in the clash over homosexuality, the battle lines do not simply pit ministers against secular advocates for gay rights. Religion is on both sides in this conflict. The battle is actually church versus church, minister versus minister, and Scripture versus Scripture.
The dividing lines are often unpredictable. There are black churches that welcome openly gay couples, and white churches that do not. Some Presbyterian churches hire openly gay clergy members, while others will not. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that homosexual behavior is a sin, but there are Catholic priests who secretly bless gay unions.
Did you catch that last reference? If, in fact, the Times has factual material about Catholic priests blessing same-sex relationships and unions then this is clearly the most important news angle in this piece. This is a major news story, buried deep in a related news report.
However, note that this claim (which I do not doubt, by the way) appears with absolutely no context, no.........

Yeah. No kidding. Usually with little boys.
Or has The Catholic Church evolved into frowing upon those sorts of things?
Thoughtful, insightful, intelligent and demonstrating a deep understanding of both Catholicism and its teachings.
Well done.
Is it hot today in Texas?
Oh, and I actually live in California, not Texas.
Maybe we could make those Priests honorary Californians.
But, seriesly, has The Catholic Church done anything to remove those monsters from their pulpits and/or prosecuted them to the full extent of the law?
No it's done absolutely nothing about pedophiles. Didn't you know?
Nice. What about your public school district? The Church has done a lot to purge these creeps, how about the NEA?
They aren’t pedophiles, they’re queers, “chicken hawks”. How many little girls have they violated? Not many. The Church let itself get talked into accepting these buggers by the shrinks in the late 50s and 60s. Every time the Church moves away from orthodoxy we all lose.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. What give you the idea I'm a fan of The NEA?
Come to think of it. The NEA probably does as much to protect pedophiles in their employ as does/did The Catholic Church.
Let the record show that you made the comparison, not I.
**factual material about Catholic priests blessing same-sex relationships and unions**
I don’t believe this — and I am wondering why anyone believes the New York Slimes.
Remember they had a full page ad against Catholicism?
Not worth the time to even fret about it. Just pray for the sinners.
“Is it hot today in Texas?”
Not yet, but give it a few weeks.
No kidding. Take a look.
As well as the John Jay College of Criminal Justice which offers empirical evidence that the Catholic Church may be the safest environment for children and young people in America today.
Though if you'be been reading nothing but the New York Times, you might not have seen that.
The issue of homosexuality doesn't divide believers, it exposes that tares and the goats.
You are so right. The NY Times does WHATEVER it can to downgrade the Catholic Church.
so, another Barry supporter...
If folks want to make gay a lifestyle choice, then they need to leave Christianity (or islam or Judaism) -- they can become Hindu or form their own religion (note: Hinduism doesn't actually say anything about gays, but there is no such thing as a gay 'marriage' in Hindu culture -- however there is no injunct against homosexuality per se).
They can have their own "civil unions" -- I don't care.
But no, they want to change our definition. Why?
I do. There are priests out there that I can believe would do it, Michael Pfleger for example. But they are not a majority. In fact they are probably a fraction of a percent. Every group has a few who join and then proceed to try to tear down the group they joined.
And if they are doing it secretly then how would the Archdiocese know to rein them in?
I agree that the NYS probably has no factual proof or even any names though, they are just playing the odds.
