Evangelicals respond to Catholic lawsuits: ‘We are all Catholic now’

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 22, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Obama administration’s HHS mandate has united Christians of all stripes – evangelical, historical Protestant, and Roman Catholic – as they close ranks behind a flurry of lawsuits filed yesterday morning to overturn the controversial measure and stall government interference in religion.

After 43 Catholic institutions – including the major archdioceses, dioceses, universities, and publishing houses affiliated with the Church in the United States – filed a dozen lawsuits to strike the measure down on First Amendment grounds, the Christian and conservative communities quickly applauded the move. President Obama with Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, who is behind the controversial birth control mandate.

“I have said ‘We are all Catholic now,’ and this is why,” said Concerned Women for America (CWA) President Penny Nance. “The religious community stands together in the belief that this contraception, chemical abortion, and sterilization mandate would force us to pay for something many of us believe is morally repugnant.”

Note that Richard Viguerie is quoted towards the end of the article urging Church Leadership (Christian) to get involved in this fray

I would prefer the title to say: "We are all Christians who must be united against the Obama Healthcare threat to religious freedom!"

It is my personal hope that Christians will act in a United Way against this attack by the Obama Administration against religous freedom -- just my personal opinion...

Not exactly mega-Churches but organizations that represent a number of other Christian Churches:

Concerned Women of America
Americans United for Life
Richard Viguerie's ConservativeHQ.com

Hopefully, the Southern Baptist Convention will join the fray along with others...

No, we are not all Catholic now. I support their lawsuit, however.

There are times when one is reminded of the Ministers who fought side by side with their flocks in the Revolutionary War against tyranny. This is one of those times where the Church is once again rising in this nation to say ... ENOUGH.

Draconian laws that suppress freedom make people see evil.

Who knew?

I’m guessing that the 95% of black ‘evangelicals’ who voted for obama aren’t ‘down’ with this.

I am not a Catholic. But I am a Christian and when it comes right down to it, I will support other Christians against what are clearly wicked people. Christians better realize what and who is working against us all over the world.

As we all know, this is not about contraceptives it is about Freedom of Religion and if they can force Catholics to do something against their beliefs then they can force Protestants too.

It's odd to think that the first amendment was intended to exempt organized religion from certain powers and jurisdiction of government that mere principles alone cannot do.

That is, it's a violation of religious freedom to force a Catholic institution to provide insurance coverage it opposes, but it's perfectly fine to force a secular institution whose leadership may be morally opposed to the same government force, based on principles of self-determination.

At least that seems to be the prevailing wisdom in the mainstream of our country.

Thanks for the heads up.

I’ve heard the SBC will be filing a suit but have no idea where the folks who told me that get their information. It could be something that’s in the works and it could just be wishful thinking on the part of some conservative folks who would like to see it happen.

The phrase is, of course, based on the saying, “We are all Jewish, now.” Meaning this time, when they come for the Jews, we will side with them. Not only because it is the right thing to do, but also because they will come for you next.

Evangelicals and real Christians of all kinds stand for the right to life, which is God-given and inalienable. So, if they come for the Catholics, they will certainly also come for the Evangelicals, forcing any and all Christians to pay for chemical abortions.

There really is nothing offensive in the phrase.

Will this bring a temporary halt to all the rhetoric about "Bobble-toters," "snake-handlers," and "inbred Billy-Bobs" from Catholics on this forum?

One can only hope.
