AU Says Anti-Gay Sermon Broke Tax Law
Associated Baptist Press ^ | 5/23/12 | Bob Allen

Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, wrote the IRS to complain that independent Baptist pastor Charles Worley’s incendiary remarks that went viral on YouTube violated a federal law that says churches that receive non-profit tax benefits cannot take sides in partisan politics.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State has asked the Internal Revenue Service to investigate whether a North Carolina pastor’s sermon suggesting that gays and lesbians should be quarantined and allowed to die off that went viral in YouTube clips violated federal tax law.

Barry Lynn, a United Church of Christ minister and executive director of the Washington-based church/state watchdog organization, said May 23 that independent Baptist Pastor Charles Worley’s May 13 sermon at Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, N.C., violated federal tax law that prohibits churches and other 501(c)(3) nonprofits from intervening in elections on behalf of or opposed to any candidate for public office.

Lynn said that while many of Worley’s remarks were repugnant, the line “I ain’t gonna vote for a baby killer and a homosexual lover” clearly urged congregations to vote against President Obama in the upcoming election.

“When the top official of a religious organization – the chief pastor of the church............

Lynn is a hypocrite. All churches are political battlegrounds these days. Especially for the commie ‘RATS.

I have interviewed Mr. Lynn in days of yore when I was a lot dumber.

I can now say this: He is a remarkable idiot.

Why is preaching against homosexuality partisan, it is Biblical.
I mean you could say he got really carried away, however that is for his flock to decide not a court.

Candidates may not be endorsed, but issues may always be addressed in a sermon.

A message for Barry Lynn: ESAD. His Anti-Americas United to Enforce the Gay Agenda on America (that should be their real name) is run by a bunch of radical homosexuals. NO surprise here. Lynn’s “church” is an EPIC FAIL, having abandoned Christianity for Communism.

"violated federal tax law that prohibits churches and other 501(c)(3) nonprofits from intervening in elections on behalf of any Republican or opposed to any Democrat candidate for public office."

There, changed it to what "Reverend" Lynn really wants.

"Black" churches can oppose any Republican at any time with no consequences whatever.

I've never understood how Demonrat candidates can get away with stumping in all these black baptist churches. It seems as soon as a preacher like myself mentions that it would be wrong ... “for a Catholic to vote for a politician who supports abortion, gay marriage...”, two immoral issues among many plaguing society; they get the “intolerant” leftists accusing them of violating federal law. I may actually end up in prison one of these days if they hear some of my homilies.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who notes the irony of “Americans United for Separation of Church and State” seems to spend most of their energy trying to get the state deeply involved in running churches.

>>>Lynn said that while many of Worley’s remarks were repugnant, the line “I ain’t gonna vote for a baby killer and a homosexual lover” clearly urged congregations to vote against President Obama in the upcoming election. <<<

So, Lynn is saying Obama is a “baby killer and homosexual lover”? Besides that, given Romney’s record on abortion and homosexual other issues, one could argue that he could just as easily have been referring to Mitt as Obama. Romney’s record is far more “gay-friendly” than Obama’s, and until 2007 he was at least as passionately “pro-choice” as Hussein.

Churches speak out on moral and social issues all of the time. Where is Lynn when all the pro-illegal and anti-war Liberal “churches” speak out on those issues? What about “churches” that speak out in favor of same sex “marriage”?

If the pastor didn’t endorse a candidate, he is pretty much in the clear regarding tax laws.

Gee..... I remember many DEMOCRATIC POLITICIANS campaigning from CHURCH PULPITS, and yet none on the ‘left’ complained.

The ole REV WRIGHT surely never advocated for Obama from the pulpit, right?

Lynn Lynn, the ideology of sin, is a sad contrast bunkerhill7, to the words of Daniel Webster June 17, 1843, at the Bunker Hill Monument in Charleston, Massachusetts,

“The Bible came with them. And it is not to be doubted, that to free and universal reading of the Bible, in that age, men were much indebted for right views of civil liberty.

The Bible is a book of faith, and a book of doctrine, and a book of morals, and a book of religion, of special revelation from God; but it is also a book which teaches man his own individual responsibility, his own dignity, and his equality with his fellow-man.”

Also, rather prophetically,

“If there is anything in my thoughts or style to commend, the credit is due to my parents for instilling in me an early love of the Scriptures. If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.”

If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation. If truth be not diffused, error will be;

If God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy; If the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will;

If the power of the Gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end.”

“Lastly, our ancestors established their system of government on morality and religious sentiment. Moral habits, they believed, cannot safely be trusted on any other foundation than religious principle, nor any government be secure which is not supported by moral habits.... Whatever makes men good Christians, makes them good citizens.”

“Finally, let us not forget the religious character of our origin. Our fathers were brought hither by their high veneration for the Christian religion. They journeyed by its light, and labored in its hope. They sought to incorporate its principles with the elements of their society, and to diffuse its influence through all their institutions, civil, political, or literary.”

Truly we have entered into other men’s labors, but are destroying their foundations.

“By their fruit you will know them.” Barry Lynn is no Christian and has not, to my knowledge ever been ordained or served in a church.
His perpetual smirk says everything, he is playing the press and the people for fools.

For anyone and everyone who doesn’t care if Gay join in a union using the word “Marriage”, “Husband” and Wife you and your church become targets of hate speech laws as the Bible, as well novels and poems describe relationships between a man and a woman as marriage.

I, Like most people, couldn’t care less if Homosexuals engage in a committed relationship of permanence. However, when they co-opt the word “Marriage” you will find that literature where a man and woman are described as married or your religious literature describes homosexuality as an aberhation then you, that literature and your Bible will be in violation of the law.

Is that what you want?

Gays can get married? At whose expense? At what price?

Is prohibition of your language or position something you will accept, much less tolerate?

Will you accept that the Bible can’t be talked about in certain instances?

Will you accept the certain passages will outlawed and who ever preaches using those passage will find themselves in legal and lawful jeopardy?

Can you live with the great novels and poems describing marriage between a man an woman as meeting the fate of a legal “Fahrenheit 451”?

How about mere discussion of the construct of marriage being between a man a woman? Will you be okay with outlawing that?

Will the penalties be acceptable to an evolved society?

The answer for me is NO.

The alternative for meeting in the middle is they can use any other word they choose but they may not use the words “Marriage”, “Husband” or “Wife”.

Those words have specific connotations, historical precedent and social meaning.

No my gay friends, you may use any other word to describe your union but you will not jeopardize Heterosexuals because you want to “Normalize” you behavior with the government as your thug amicus in court.

Besides, do you really want to be objectified by a now cheapened and synthetic pejorative by changing the social, dictionary and God given interpretation of words?

Do you want to some knockoff China? “See? it’s not the same but it’s pretty close”. “No one is going to know unless they examine it closer”

“You can’t a fake this on Canal street without going to jail”.

Lastly, do want to constantly be known as “My gay friend?”. You know, where you are always introduced and thought of firstly as “A Gay Friend?”

Not only are being obectified but you are creating the whole construct of objectification. Further, you are now objectifying everyone else.

My gay friends aren’t “My Gary Friends” anymore than my friends who are black are introduced as “My Black Friends”.

No, their just my friends and I really never think about their being gay or black.

Why should I? Their trophies nor are they markers for my worldliness, acceptance and toleration of others.

Their my friends. Is that the kind of friend you’d want?

Think it’s time for Lynn’s organization to be investigated. I’m sure he’s getting government money in addition to be tax exempt.

Sexual Perversion has no part in partisan politics. It has to do with right and wrong. Politics is Republican and Democrat. It is an opinion about how the government will conduct itself. Homosexuality is a choice to do something unnatural. This article was an attempt to mix the two. They do not mix.

I would guess that Americans United for Separation of Church and State receives tax-free donations and yet takes a position on partisan politics.

LOL!!! With supporters like that, we can take heart that Obama has more enemies (even the Joe-Biden foot in the mouth type) than we thought. John Siemens can probably work wonders with this one...
