The porn industry was featured last night on CNBC, which took its viewers “inside the $13 billion business of pleasure.”
Well, there is no doubt that millions of Americans derive pleasure from porn, which may be found at the magazine stand, in the video store, on regular and pay-per-view cable and, of course, all over the Internet.
But it is the passing pleasure of sin, as the Scripture warns us. It has a corrosive effect on our souls.
That is borne out by the powerful testimonies of men and women alike who have experienced, first-hand, the deleterious effects of porn on their lives; whose woeful stories were not presented on CNBC.
Like the Virginiapsychologist who’s husband’s porn addiction led him to abandon her and their five children.
Writing in the National Review, she recounted that her man hooked up with “an unemployed alcoholic with all the physical qualities of a porn star – bleached blonde hair, heavy makeup, provocative clothing, and big breasts.”
She was convinced that her former husband “succumbed to the allure of the secret fantasy life he had been indulging since adolescence.” And she cited several studies backing up her conclusion that porn alters behavior.”
What I find most compelling about her testimony was her conclusion that porn gives “the impression that aberrant sexual practices are more common than they really are, and that promiscuous behavior is normal.”
Michael Leahy, author of “Porn Nation,” offered the perspective of a wayward husband, whose youthful porn habit led an adult sex addiction.
“It took losing my 15-year-marriage,” he lamented, “my boys, my job, my affair partner, any hopes of reconciliation with and re-marrying (my former wife), and a whole lot of money to hit rock bottom. That’s what it took to finally get my attention.”
Leahy now devotes himself to travelling around the country, evangelizing against the evil of pornography.
Then there is Sophia Lynn, who starred in porn films to make money to support herself and her child after a divorce, she told ABC News.
She was delivered from the supposed business of pleasure with the intercession of Heather Veitch, an ex-stripper turned Christian evangelist. Lynn gave her life to Christ and took a job as a church secretary in Sioux Falls,S.D.
“This is like a dream,” said the former porn star. “I feel like my life has been saved.”
The testimonies of the Virginia psychologist, of Leahy and of Lynndispel the myth that porn is an innocent, victimless vice.
It is a blight upon America. It is a tool of the ruler of this fallen world, whom, the Scripture warns, is like a roaring lion, seeking whom he can devour.
Government cannot protect people from themselves. Policing the degenerates will lead to a degenerate-centric politics, laws, and culture.
But it is very important in a free society to honestly educate people about the consequences of the choices that are out there. People are told in a loud way that porn has no negative consequences and that it is cool and popular to do when it does have negative physical, mental, social and economic consequences for the addict and the people around him/her.
Freedom requires societal honesty and that is precluded with the lies of political correctness and the pervert lobby. People who are lied to have a difficult time making good choices and people who make bad choices don’t thrive. People who don’t thrive, depend upon the government to surivival.
Defining obscene is precluded with the sin lobby’s efforts to name all taboos hate and intolerance.
We are going to bottom out at cannibalism and ritual murder and sex abuse.

We can pretty much see where the sports money goes, players, advertisers, team owners, media, etc.
I can’t imagine a porn star getting a 5-year $25 million-dollar contract. Are there public porn corporations that disperse dividends?

And his wife was a nice woman, he had a great job, but the porn won.

My point was that there is no correlation at all. Violent crime had been going down long before easy access to porn. My scanty bit of research only went to 1991, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see crime rates trending downwards since the 1980s.
The idea that sexualizing the culture brings crime down is a neo-Marxist canard. There’s really no evidence for it. Like all Marxist ideas, the theory must never incorrect; if the data do not agree with the theory, the data must be distorted or discarded.
The late 1960s to mid 1970s is the period we experienced the highest crime rates in this country. This was during the so-called “Sexual Revolution”. Not only was pornography more readily available (and mainstream) then than any preceding decade, but many (formerly) deviant sexual practices grew in acceptance. Not only were more Americans watching sex, they were participating as well! And yet this new-found sexual preoccupation did nothing to slow down the crime rate.

No, government is designed to create a safe environment for people to live, work, and raise their families, by protecting them from bandits and invaders, plus providing a court system to peacefully settle disputes.
Once government (as opposed to institutions like churches) start promoting Virtue, the question then becomes "Whose Virtue?"

The prisons filled up and that is why crime when down. We are now into a new downward cycle of the 60’s and 70’s. Embracing sexual immorality goes hand in hand with loosening taboos against everything.
Liberals do claim homos are more successful because they are smarter. In reality, they are successful materially because they don’t have to work and spend around family responsibilities. If I had all the money I have made to spend only on myself and if I did not have to shape my work around chidren, I would be dang right rich in material wealth.

We don’t see immediate results in the degradation of society with the loosening of morals; there is usually a generational lag. This is the mistake Ken H was making when he was arguing against a direct correlation between pornography and crime. And while it’s true that there is no straightforward correlation between pornography and crime (and definitely not causation), that is only because there are many factors that must align before crime rates begin rising.
Unfortunately, practically all of the factors are present in leftist governmental policies. One only needs to compare the crime rates in areas governed predominantly by leftists to the national average. Since 2009, the region that saw the smallest decline in violent crime rate was the Northeast (-0.7%), while the South (-8.9%) and the Midwest (-6.6%) had the largest declines.
This is in spite of there being more firearm availability in the latter two regions, which shows the leftist idea that more guns causes more violent crime to be a lie. It looks more like more Democrats and Democrat voters causes more violent crime.
Your post mixes specific religious practices with universal axioms of civilized behavior. Public virtue relates to the later, not the former.
In other words, to answer your question, the “final authority” in a free society is natural law. Just as gravity has the power to make you fall regardless of your religion, the public safety function of government consistently exposes certain basic, universal virtues as essential to civilized life, regardless of the religious makeup of a culture.
For example, I’m sure we agree that murder is destructive to civil society and falls under the public safety function of government. But murder would never occur if life was valued as it should be. That “should” is a moral premise, yet it is inextricably connected with our laws about murder.
Those laws reflect the duty of government to promote the virtue of respecting human life by punishing with vigor those who lack that virtue. This comports both with Paul’s teaching in Romans 13 and with the Founder’s view of the Creator as the source of those unalienable individual rights the government has a duty to defend.
Public virtue is not an option. We won’t stay civilized without it. If it sometimes presents us with hard questions, well, that’s just the price we pay for trying to be civilized.
You are WRONG—Government is designed to promote the Virtue of Justice. Just Law-—Rule of Law—is the type of government we have-—from which everything else has to flow. If we have NO Rule of Law—we have no America.

The leftist policies have affected blacks for much longer than whites, in particular the breakdown of the nuclear family.
To support my position, you’ll notice that even though there are proportionately more blacks in the South than any other region, that’s the region that saw the biggest decline in violent crime.

What kind of man is this?
He is fastidious about his appearance, his home and his possessions. He wants as much sex as possible and chooses sexual partners mostly on the basis of appearance. He is self-absorbed and doesn’t want emotional involvement or commitment. He thinks a woman would stifle him and children would be a burden.
Does this sound like many gays? It is also the masculine ideal purveyed by Playboy magazine to men since the 1950’s.
The essence of manhood is to lead and support a family. But in 1972, 3 out of 4 male college students got their ideas about masculinity from Playboy, at an incalculable price to themselves, women, children and society.
The similarity between the Playboy and homosexual ideal is no coincidence. “The Kinsey Report” (1948) shaped current mainstream attitudes to sex. It championed unfettered sexual expression and became the manifesto of the counterculture. It inspired Hugh Hefner to start Playboy in 1953.
Essentially “The Kinsey Report” said that aberrant sexual behavior was so common as to be normal. Thanks to psychologist Dr. Judith Reisman, we now know that Alfred Kinsey was a homosexual and the “Kinsley Report” was a fraud.
Kinsey, a University of Indiana zoologist, pretended to be a Conservative family man. In fact, he seduced his male students and forced his wife and associates to perform in homemade pornographic films. To prove that children have legitimate sexual needs. With messianic fervor, Playboy took its gospel of sexual freedom to the American male who in the 1950’s-1960’s still consecrated sex for marriage. Playboy’s aim, the aim of all pornographers, was to hook men on the glossy fantasy. To do this, they had to prevent them from finding true satisfaction in marriage.
In Reisman’s words, “Playboy was the first national magazine to exploit college men’s fears of women and family commitment. Playboy offered itself as a reliable, comforting substitute for monogamous heterosexual love.” (Judith Reisman, “Soft Porn Plays Hardball,” p 47)
Thus sworn enemies, Playboy and radical feminists, found common ground in hatred of the nuclear family. As a result, society now suffers from epidemics of family breakdown, pornography, impotence, child sexual abuse, sadosexual violence, teen pregnancy, a cocktail of STD’s and, of course, AIDS. The birthrate has plummeted by 50% since 1960 and is barely at replacement level.
Homosexuality is a developmental disorder defined by the failure to establish a permanent bond with a member of the opposite sex. Psychologist Richard Cohen, in “Coming Out Straight: Understanding and Healing Homosexuality” (2000) argues it is caused when a male child fails to bond with his father. By having sex with men, the adult gay is trying to compensate for father-love denied in adolescence.
Cohen was gay and is now married with three children. He attributes lesbianism to a woman’s reaction to being rebuffed or abused by her father. He has assisted hundreds of homosexuals, but is under constant attack for undermining the gay political agenda, (i.e. to redefine societal norms.)
Psychiatrist Jeffrey Satinover has pointed to another cause of homosexuality. A 1990 survey of 1000 gays shows that an older or more powerful partner physically assaulted 37% of them before the age of 19. (”Homosexuality and American Public Life,” 1999, p.24). In addition, according to Anne Moir in “Why Men Don’t Iron,” some men may be “born gay” due to foetal hormone imbalances. They seem to be a minority.
For many decades, gays were told that they were “sick” and cruelly and wrongly persecuted. The gay activist solution: convince the world that, in fact, it is heterosexuals who are sick. In 1973, they bullied the American Psychological Association into proclaiming homosexuality normal. Together with feminist activists (who believe heterosexuality is inherently oppressive) gay activists began to dismantle all heterosexual institutions: masculinity, femininity, marriage, the nuclear family, the boy scouts, sports, and the military.
Backed by the financial elite, gay activists and their supporters now largely dictate our cultural sensibility. They are responsible for the puerile pornographic obsession that pervades television, music videos and the Internet. This state of arrested human development is characteristic of many homosexuals. But straights have been homosexualized too. With women acting like men, and vice versa, we can’t establish a “permanent bond with a member of the opposite sex” either. Gay liberation manuals talk about “normalizing” their sexuality and “de-sensitizing” straights by flaunting it. I was livid when I took my 10-year-old son to see Adam Sandler’s movie “Billy Madison” and heard one teenage male youth in the film casually ask another: “Would you rather bone Pamela Anderson or a young Jack Nicholson?”
Last week, on TV’s “Will and Grace,” Jack who is gay dons an apron that says “Kiss the cook” pretending he thought the second “o” was a “c”. Just as Communists once conned do-gooders to think radicalism was chic, gay activists define trendy for gullible liberals today.
Gay and feminist activists think traditional morality was invented to perpetuate an unjust status quo. In fact, morality is the accumulated wisdom of mankind regarding what is healthy and ultimately fulfilling. Perversion is deviation from what is healthy.
Heterosexual morality places sex in the context of love and/or marriage because it is healthy and human. It ensures that the most profound and intimate physical act between two people expresses a commensurate emotional-spiritual bond. Promiscuous sex is a desperate plea for love. Love and marriage answer that call and provide for the natural and necessary outcome of sex, children.
With Hugh Hefner’s help, Alfred Kinsey detached sex from love and procreation. He reduced it to another physical function like urinating. Homosexual activists champion anonymous sex: a majority of gays have 10s-100s of partners each year. In less extreme form, heterosexuals have adopted this model. Recently a social columnist enviously described straight friends whose relationships have ended: “they’re out partying, having the time and the sex, it seems of their lives.”
In conclusion, the “sexual revolution” was really a triumph of an elite program of arrested development. In 40 short years, almost all sexual constraints have dissolved and heterosexual society is reeling. The cultural and social breakdown will only get worse unless there is a counterrevolution.
