Chris Rock Takes Jab At ‘Romney’s Crew’: Mormons Believed Black People Were The Devil

Chris Rock sat down with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday and, after brief acknowledgment of the impending zombie apocalypse, talked politics. Having already offered up his thoughts on our “zebra president,” Rock took this opportunity to discuss Mitt Romney and his religion.

SNIP

Asked how he feels about what’s going on in the world (particularly regarding Romney and President Obama), Rock replied, “What’s going on? Okay, I just heard this the other day. The Mormons, Mitt Romney’s crew, they believed black people were the devil until 1978. I’m not making this up. Right, right, right?”

Fallon and Rock joked abut having to look up Mormons’ “black policies” on “Blackipedia...”

Let's just say you're Axelrod and Obama ...

Just breathe easy, it's JUST a GAME here ...

Ask yourself ... What's the SMART GENIUS WAY to beat the GOP in 2012 ?

Jim .. You KNOW the answer ... it's the Evangelical Christian Conservatives ...

You know ... Rev. Jerry Falwell and Dr. James Dobson's elite political shock troops ...

So WHAT HAPPENS when these ...

"Saved by Christ's Blood at Calvary and the Power of His Ressurrection and HIS sitting at the LORD's throne in Glory, King of Kings and Lord of Lords" ...

(that was said in complete reverence) ...

get BRUTALLY PROPAGANDIZED 24/7 from ABC-CBS-NBC-NPR-ESPN-CNN ...

about ...

1) Mitt Romney, the "Celestial God-Child"

2) The Planet Kolob (in the Constellation Cancer, doncha know)

3) The Mormon FANTASY about the LOST Israelite Cities built in America about 725 AD ...

4) Multiple Wives ...

5) Secret Ceremonial Underwear ...

6) TBD (Sixty Minutes production crew already filming it)

7) TBD (Sixty Minutes production crew already filming it)

8) TBD (Sixty Minutes production crew already filming it)

9) TBD (Sixty Minutes production crew already filming it)

Well Jim ... all those Rev. Jerry Falwell and Dr. James Dobson's Christian elite political shock troops ...

will "run for the hills" ...

and REFUSE to work Romney's campaign ...

and REFUSE to vote for Romney ...

You KNOW it's the truth ...

Your constant attacks on Romney (a RINO, I know) are getting tiresome.

Stay offa FR and rest up.

You'll need your strength after the conventions are over.

They really want to go after Romney for his Mormon faith and their beliefs back in the 1800’s? Then Obama attending Trinity United Church over 20 years should be given equal time, including full exposure of James Cone and Black Liberation Theology.

From the article: Okay, I just heard this the other day.

In light of the above, I'm not exactly sure why FREEPERS feel the necessity to shoot the messenger (most aim @ Chris Rock; a few @ me)...a few @ even taken aim @ Rock's race.

Listen, this doesn't come from "deep inside" Chris Rock.

He said it himself: "I just heard this the other day."

He's heard something; he's passing it on. If it's off-base, should be fairly easy to dismiss, right?

The problem is ... I included quotes in post #1 where indeed Lds "prophets" have linked the mark of Cain with God supposedly 'needing' the devil....and there's all kinds of quotes of Mormon leaders saying a skin curse goes back to what occurred in some pre-existence prior to be born that involved the devil.

The problem here -- Romney-wise -- is that Romney believes in this pre-existence stuff.
He believes in a pre-existent war in heaven.
He believes spirits were there who eventually became embodied on earth (including himself).
So the Q is: Does he believe the "faith of his fathers" who taught that a "neutrality" -- failing to oppose Lucifer in the pre-existence -- resulted in a skin curse?

Ah, hey. I understand. Can't defend whacky Mormonism...so 'tis easier to attack Chris Rock and myself. Continue on. I understand.

one hundred years ago the word “white” was an adjective meaning unblemished or pure and also pertaining to goodness. It wasn’t just a color back then

It is nice to see someone else understands this FACT about language in context with the era in which it was written. This is the kind of distortion/contortion I would expect from Sharpton and his crowd, but what you wrote is the absolute truth. I read classical literature and I am often amused at how impolite the politically correct and hypersensitive would find the words today.

I am not Mormon and won’t defend that faith. There are plenty of “strange” things about mormonism and there is no denying that their faith followed the cultural history of America in which Joseph Smith lived. Based on my own study, I believe many of the negative things attributed to Smith were probably true and the “tablets” were a fraud.

There is historical context (for those interested) for the attack on a candidates faith with the election for JFK Jr. where Catholicism was controversial - i.e. - some Americans suggested the Pope would run the White House. It seems strange today, but to many evangelicals in the 60’s the fears of Catholicism were comparable to the fears of Mormonism today.

Romney’s faith will probably cost him a point or two just as it did for JFK. I grew up in the Bible Belt and I am certain that many evangelicals won’t vote for a Mormon just like many would still not vote for a Catholic. I am in no way stating that those two faiths are the same, but the controversy is the same. While strange to some, it is that important to a few. However, I doubt it will be the deciding factor in an election where most people are deeply concerned about the economy, jobs, and the size/scope/debt of government.

In post #1, I gave this quote of John Taylor's -- but not the attribution (Oct. 29, 1882, Journal of Discourses, 23:336)...

But note again how this Mormon 'prophet' claimed that God "could not do without" the devil...and that God "needed" the devil...sounds to me only the devil would "inspire" such language!

Quote #1, from 3rd 'prophet' John Taylor, who followed Brigham Young: Why is it, in fact, that we should have a devil? Why did not the Lord kill him long ago? Because he could not do without him. He needed the devil and a great many of those who do his bidding just to keep men straight, that we may learn to place our dependence upon God, and trust in Him, and to observe his laws and keep his commandments. When he destroyed the inhabitants of the ante-diluvian world, he suffered a descendant of Cain to come through the flood in order that he might be properly represented upon the earth."

I can’t defend Mormonism and I share your views on the religion. However, I believe he was correct in the historical context of those words in the era during which it was written. I don’t believe the Mormon church has been all that inclusive during it’s history, but it is a stretch to attribute it to these words that were commonly used in a different context back then. It’s the same as the word “gay”.

There are plenty of legitimate criticisms of Mormonism without making the meanings of words a controversy to further an agenda that has little to do with contextual language study. Regardless, it is unlikely this controversy will decide the election. I believed the Mormon factor might decide the race in the South, but the Obama administration has been such a trainwreck that it should not matter now. 8 years ago might have been a different story.

Blacks will overwhelmingly vote for the rat candidate even if it were Margaret Sanger. That is another interesting topic for another day.

Mamelukesabre only offered a single context (100 years ago) -- which failed to address ANY of the three potentially realistic contexts.

In post #21, I offered three contexts -- according to how people interpret the Book of Mormon:
(a) The English language as of 1830...182 years ago (not 100)
(b) The supposed "Reformed Egyptian" source of 2,600 years ago...which can't be changed minus having the original "gold plates" to relook @ it...
(c) The BEST context we have -- which is how that same phrase is used within the same supposed author -- Nephi -- in the same book within the Book of Mormon (2 Nephi)

And in post #21, 2 Nephi 5:21 clearly shows that Mamelukesabre avoided the best "contextual" evidence there is...how that "author" (supposedly "Nephi") -- meant those words in similar contexts!

This same contextual interpretation is used by those who study the Bible...If you want to further know how a Biblical author used a word or phrase, take at look at how he also used it in other contexts.

You, Volunbeer, and mamelukesabre flunk basic hermeneutics.

(And I could claim that Mormons would overwhelmingly vote for a Mormon candidate vs. some black candidate even if that candidate was Harry Reid...so what?)

“You’ll need your strength after the conventions are over.”

Why?

Is that when you’re gonna’ throw your full support for the Communist/Marxist America-hating 0bama?

Think about what’s the best for our country right now and not your own personal hatred for “Mormon-ism”.

Romney has lots of faults and is NOT a Conservative, this we all know.

0bama has millions of faults, along with a plan to destroy our country. If re-elected, he WILL shred what is left of our Constitution.

How many American lives were lost in Vietnam because the enemy watched the anti-war protestors waving their Communist flag and supporting them? As much as we don’t like to compromise our Conservative beliefs we must unite behind ANYBODY BUT OBAMA!

Please think about what you’re doing, please.

It would not be the first time I flunked something.

Playing with context over specific words is a nitpicking game. The fraud of the tablets among other plagiarism of Masonic rituals and other things in the book of Mormon along with the life story of Joseph Smith are the reasons I dismiss Mormonism. I did not need to play word games to dismiss it.

This is the kind of attacks the left specializes in where you can infer anything by simply changing the context. Did you believe that Trent Lott was praising the historical racism of Strom Thurmond by using nice words at a celebration that had nothing to do with views held decades before?

To me it’s the same kind of attack that is subject to interpretation. It’s not necessary given the major theological disagreements that I have with the LDS faith. I know for a fact given my families history in rural Appalachia that many elders of church congregations were active members in the KKK. They were wrong and I believe they were opposed to biblical teaching. They believed themselves to be right within the times during which they lived. That is historical context and I don’t blame my generation for the actions of previous generations. That is as silly as the idea of reparations to me, but I obviously don’t feel as strongly about all of this as you do.

That may have been the (ignorant) dems plan but it ain’t going to work.
The evangelicals( I suspect you do not know many very well) all understand exactly what Mormonism is about.

That being said, they will still work like dogs to get this guy elected. He is light years better than the monster on the other ticket.

This election is about the direction and future of our nation, not Mormonism or Black Liberation Theology. I suspect most Americans feel the same way.

My salvation is secured in the blood of Jesus Christ. A vote for ABO won’t jeopardize that.
