Ive always thought well of Carrie Underwood, the season four winner of American Idol. I even have her praise and worship song, Jesus Take the Wheel, on my Ipod.
Alas, the country Christian gal from Oklahoma, as E!Online described her, has gone Hollywood on us.
In an interview with The Independent, a British tabloid, Underwood declared her support for same-sex marriage.
As I married person myself, she said, I dont know what its like to be told I cant marry somebody I love, and want to marry. I cant imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love.
Well, Carrie, does that apply to Erin Sayer, the 35-year-old Brooklyn high school teacher who had a love jones for a 16-year-old student she tutored?
Or how about Valerie Darger, who fell in love with husband Joe, who already happened to be married to her twin sister Vicki and yet another wife, Alina?
And what of the 24-year-old daughter of former Columbia University professor David Epstein who loved to make love to daddy?
Do they have the right to love, and love publicly, the people they want to love?
I think not.
What I find most disturbing about Underwoods comment is that, like President Obama last month, she attributes her twisted thinking on same-sex marriage to her professed Christian faith.
Above all, she said, God wanted us to love others. Its not about setting rules, or [saying] everyone has to be like me. No. Were all different. Thats what makes us special. We have to love each other get on with each other. Its not up to me to judge anybody.
That doesnt sound to me like the Gospel, but like some new age Hollywood mumbo-jumbo.
Sure, were to love others. But were also to hate sin. And the Bible clearly states that carnal love between persons of the same sex is a sin.
Carrie Underwood and her ungodly friends in Hollywood Babylon can muster whatever dubious arguments they want in support of same-sex marriage.
But that will never make it right in the eyes of God.
Carrie may have stepped in it but her fans will look past it. Hopefully. I like her.
I have a good friend that thinks like this too...makes her feel open minded...
Dissapointed, and you really wonder about these types which say “their Christian faith, makes them support fake-marriage”, b.c. does she even believe in the redemption of (anyone) by Jesus Christ? Homosexuals are sinners just like the rest of us, but God doesn’t sanction open out and out perversion.
So carrie underwood would rather trap these people in (a wrong life) and an everlasting death?
Being Saved doesn’t stop you from being dumb.
It will be abused and selfishly used, but I think I see it happening.
People are taking sides because they HAVE to.
Was she even a Christian to begin with? I think a lot of churches reduce salvation and conversion to saying a sinner’s prayer and/or being baptized and that’s it with no mention of repentance, discipleship and church discipline.
I agreee

It’s a shame where some have to put aside their values just to be accepted. She could have not said anything. There was no need for her to come out with her stance. Crazy. I have my own thoughts but I don’t come out and say them in public.
yep ... don’t know what it is about fame and/or fortune.
Just stop buying her CDs. One must choose between God and Mammon.
“He who denies Me here on Earth, I will deny him before My Father in Heaven”
Probably doesn't even realise she told Him to sit in back and shut up.
The dumb b**ch wants to fit in with the Hollywood crowd, she is now dead to me.
Not me. Ive written her off. Part of what was appealing about her music was her “world view”, now that that has been corrupted...she has nothing left to offer.
...something about wheat and tares...
Gays got all the rights they wanted and legally needed with the Domestic Partnership act. That wasn’t enough, they want to drag marriage down to their level.
Carrie will pay the price of crossing the line.
For a lot of people, many of whom will not admit it, "Go along to get along" is the First Commandment and overrides all others.
After all, if she's wrong she's already forgiven and the only consequences are what Scripture teaches doesn't get in the way of her career and an immeasurable amount of additional Grace comes here way. Right? In addition, she may be like a lot of people who think that if Christ wants this society saved from the things like queers marrying one another Christ can just do it with a wink of His eye rather than making a big deal out of it.
It's also possible she's a member of a Church that teaches there's no problem with queers being married to one another, ordained, granted the right to adopt children, and anything else they want to do. The largest Baptist Church in Raleigh has a Lesbian pastor, so who knows, she may be repeating what she's been taught is the correct Christian view.
Will like to see what transpires about this before making any decisions about her. I do like her music. But then, I feel people are entitled to their opinion so long as they don’t use their public position to promote their philosophy. You start refusing to watch some public person because their ideals do not match yours there goes your entertainment. There are a lot of Hollywood types that I don’t care for their position on things but it doesn’t prevent me from watching their movies. Just saying.
What I don’t like is where people in the public eye use their position to promote their ideals or philosophy. I’ll have to see where she’s going to go with this.
Guess we’ll have to see how it all shakes out. She may retract. Who knows?
Carrie is FAR from the Dixie Chicks. The Dixie Chicks mocked the President and other things. Carrie was asked a question and answered it honestly. I read her answer and the first part is fine but I don’t agree with her on this ONE TOPIC. Not enough by a mile for her fans to drop her. Now if she starts going out and publicly selling this than that would be a problem, but so far if this is where it ends than she might survive this.
Or how about Valerie Darger, who fell in love with husband Joe, who already happened to be married to her twin sister Vicki and yet another wife, Alina?
And what of the 24-year-old daughter of former Columbia University professor David Epstein who loved to make love to daddy?
Pathetic examples - Carrie didn't support pedophilia, polygamy or incest. To drag these into her support of same-sex marriage is to openly declare you don't have a strong enough argument against same-sex marriage for it to stand on its own.
If people can't learn to argue honestly, the Left deserves to win - after all, they're based on dishonest argument, so at least they're honest about their dishonesty. To invoke Christ and then play word games, however, is just disgusting - and morally weak.
I sure hope she does.
I like her personally, but refuse the destruction of marriage immensely.
Did she actually say she was for gay marriage or just kind of wiggle around it with her wording of the answer? She didn’t come out and say I support gay marriage did she?
“To drag these into her support of same-sex marriage is to openly declare you don’t have a strong enough argument against same-sex marriage for it to stand on its own. “
On the contrary: the argument used by Carrie applies to these as well. Frankly, polygamy has a much stronger standing as marriage than a couple of homosexuals butt-plugging.
And if that 24 year old ‘loves’ her Dad, then “I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love.
Except that statement by CU is both extremely STUPID and completely contrary to the Christian faith.
Did she actually say she was for gay marriage or just kind of wiggle around it with her wording of the answer? She didn’t come out and say I support gay marriage did she?
“The Dixie Chicks mocked the President and other things.”
Better mocking GWB than God...
Good point actually.
“Our church is gay friendly,” she said. “Above all, God wanted us to love others. It’s not about setting rules, or [saying] ‘everyone has to be like me’. No. We’re all different. That’s what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It’s not up to me to judge anybody.”
To my mind, there is a huge difference between two people saying “we’re married!” and the government agreeing with it. In this country, you are free, you can make choices, and live in whatever bizarre manner you want as long as you are not harming others.
If my next door neighbor decided to call himself a car, sleep in his garage, drink motor oil, and walk around making ‘vroooooooommmmm, vroooooooooommmmmmm’ noises constantly, it is none of my business. When he goes down to the County to get his license plate, he then makes it my business. He is asking me, in the form of my elected government, to cosign his insanity. Same goes for a couple of homos or any other freakish combination of multiple persons, species or solitary genders. They can call themselves whatever they wish, but I oppose giving their insanity the legitimacy of government recognition.
Carrie has fallen prey to an old ruse. Someone has played upon her conscience, in the guise of this being a civil rights-type issue, as opposed to the behavior the Lord allows (procreation), versus one of the seven sins which cry to Heaven for vengeance (homosexual acts). It’s possible to feel compassion for those who struggle with the burden of same sex attraction without allowing it to be twisted into what it isn’t: civil rights.
Marriage is a gift from Our Lord, not from the state, as a parcel to be given according to the state’s dictates and rearranged by the same. And while road life is a fantasy world all it’s own, perhaps whatever fallout happens will return someone who otherwise seems to be a decent, mostly well-balanced person to ground. Pray for her.
you are cannot be saved if you promote immoral marriages.
Lurking’
Like you, same here.
You are definately correct. I do not support anyone who believes nonsense. I am only depriving them of a few cents.
But I can sleep at night.
Blessings, bobo
That's another argument.
Don't you see? You can't attack her argument for it's application to other issues. You have to attack her argument for it's own sake.
A perfect example is what liberals do with virtually everything they touch - they invoke the magic "could" - "This could lead to that, so it needs to be banned." "That could lead to this, so it needs to be banned." Think of what the FDA, and the EPA, and all the other agencies do with this on a daily basis.
These aren't trivialities. They're the WAY the Left wins things. And by not dealing with them properly, conservatives win the morality game while losing the political game. And look around you and see how well that's worked.
Note - I'm not saying anyone needs to loosen up on any beliefs. Rather, I'm saying people need to give the same level of discipline to the proper expression of those beliefs, as they give to the beliefs themselves.
She also participated (about a year ago) in some concert to help stop “global warming”.
That in itself should have told everyone where her views stand. I’ve stopped listening to her for a long time now. This isn’t a bit of a surprise.
I’ll listen to liberal singers if I like their music, but not when somebody professes to be a Christian but not choose to follow the core teachings.
One thing for sure, she didn't come out and say Scripture teaches that homosexuality is a sin and that marriage is established by God for one man and one woman, not a pair of whatever the cat drags in.
This is a funny bunch of messages. How many of the people defending or dismissing what she said turn around and tell people they're not every bit as relativist as the society as a whole is? Come on, folks, either she's looking out for her career by putting that ahead of what she believes or she doesn't believe what the Bible teaches about homosexuals or marriage. You can't wiggle around that and if she's making a buck as a "Christian" artist but you ignore the fact that she doesn't believe what the Bible says, where are you drawing the line?
Why not have gladiatorial games if the only question is, "are you not entertained"?
Wiser words are rarely posted on FR.
Above all, God wanted us to be holy. That is why God sent His sinless Son Jesus to live among us -- so fallen and sinful man could live with God forever. Without the sin of homosexuality, or any other sin.
So what if you’re married and you’ve fallen for another person? Should you parade that relationship in public because you “love them”?
Yes! The scriptures tell us to test all spirits to see if they are of God. In 1 Thess 4:8, the scriptures tell us that whoever rejects the commandment for sexual purity has rejected God. There are lines drawn in the sand. When the persecution comes, these liberal Christians will desert the church in a hurry.
Huh? Just saying that people in public life should kind of like keep personal opinions to themselves, don’t use their stage to promote their ideas. Either case. People in their private lives don’t go gossiping about their personal beliefs so why should someone who has the public stage come out just because they’re a public figure? Just saying.
It demonstrates the stupidity of her argument, which leaves her conclusion in doubt. By her reasoning, anyone can marry anyone or anything if they just 'love it'. And that is ridiculous. You cannot marry a cheesecake.
50 years ago, no one thought homosexuality would be legalized, let alone given honor by the government. There was a time, long ago, where no open homosexual could hold public office.
Two guys sharing a house isn't my business. Two guys claiming their 'love' is of equal value and worth in the eyes of God and the future of the country as heterosexual love is a huge problem.
God will not be mocked. If America doesn't repent, America will face the rightful wrath of God.
For someone who has claimed to be a follower of Christ to publicly reject the Gospel - which starts with repentance - and proclaim evil is good, IS my business:
"In my previous letter I said, Dont mix with the immoral. I didnt mean, of course, that you were to have no contact at all with the immoral of this world, nor with any cheats or thieves or idolatersfor that would mean going out of the world altogether! But in this letter I tell you not to associate with any professing Christian who is known to be an impure man or a swindler, an idolater, a man with a foul tongue, a drunkard or a thief. My instruction is: Dont even eat with such a man. Those outside the church it is not my business to judge. but surely it is your business to judge those who are inside the churchGod alone can judge those who are outside. It is your plain duty to put away from yourselves that wicked person." - 1 Corinthians 5
Sorry. I must’ve directed this at the wrong person.
