Most of the comments on this thread are very strange. It’s as if people think that because many other loud noises when you are trying to sleep are also annoying, this person’s church bells every half hour all night are NOT annoying. That’s just nuts.
All loud noises imposed on the public are annoying. Those which can be avoided, should be, with limited exceptions: church bells, for example, at a reasonable hour on Sunday mornings and on religious holidays. Tornado sirens at the appropriate time. Fireworks on July 4.
I agree — every half-hour in the night is kind of nuts. A parish near me has got bells that ring in the night, but the tone is much, much lower and it is only once an hour. you can hear a soft, peaceful nocturne at 11 pm while at 11 am it is a more powerful peal
