Gay Danish Couples Win Right to Marry in [Any] Church
The Daily Telegraph (UK) ^ | 6/7/12 | Richard Orange

Homosexual couples in Denmark have won the right to get married in any church they choose, even though nearly one third of the country's priests have said they will refuse to carry out the ceremonies.

The country's parliament voted through the new law on same-sex marriage by a large majority, making it mandatory for all churches to conduct gay marriages.

Denmark's church minister, Manu Sareen, called the vote "historic".

"I think it's very important to give all members of the church the possibility to get married. Today, it's only heterosexual couples."

Under the law, individual priests can refuse to carry out the ceremony, but the local bishop must arrange a replacement for their church.

The far-Right Danish People's Party mounted a strong campaign against the new law, which nonetheless passed with the support of 85 of the country's 111 MPs.

"Marriage is as old as man himself, and you can't change something as fundamental," the party's church spokesperson Christian Langballe said during the debate. "Marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman."

Karsten Nissen, the Bishop of Viborg, who is refusing to carry out the ceremonies, has warned that the new law risks "splitting the church".

"The debate has been really tough," said Mr Sareen, an agnostic who has pushed hard for the legislation since taking his post last autumn.

"The minority among Danish people, politicians and priests who are against, they've really shouted out loud throughout the process."

The first gay marriages will take place as soon as June 15. This contrasts with neighbouring Norway, where bishops are still debating the correct 'ritual' for the ceremonies, four years after a 2008 parliamentary vote in favour of gay marriage.

There are established procedures to reconsecrate a church that has been defiled

This is a badly worded headline and story. It only applies to the established Church of Denmark, nor “any” church.

It shows the problem with established (government run) churches.

I don’t see the legal basis for this to apply outside of a state supported church. Of course, Denmark does not have a first amendment and the 85-26 vote in favor of the sodomites is very troubling.

Recalling...recallling.... Obamba and Pelosi exempted Moslems from ObamaCare .... so they will probably also exampt mosques from being forced to perform “gay marriages,” too.

Forcing a private church to marry someone against it’s wishes is like forcing your inlaws who hate your guts to host your birthday party....

Would you really want to be somewhere you are now welcome and imagine the amount of sheer resentment that is gonna be built up amongst the 98+% of everyone else there....

This is where the liberal morons don’t realize this sorta “love accept me or I will FORCE you to!” Behavior leads to one helluva backlash later.

Government bends over for the homo gang yet again. This overstep of power is especially disgusting...every ‘yes’ voter on this is a disgraceful tyrant and should be treated accordingly.

Forcing churches to marry gays is unthinkable and unforgivable. I hope they all burn.

Danish churches are supported by tax money and as such, are an arm of the State.

And that will be the claim of the Left in this country, in that churches are tax-exempt organizations and therefore are partly supported by the government.

Good bet, I would have thought.

One could write quite a service for these perverts who want to order God’s shepherds around. It would almost be worth it to comply with the demands of those threatening government force:
____________________________________________________________
Prelude

Procession

Gathering song

Greeting

Opening Prayer

Liturgy of the Word

First Reading
“Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination” (Leviticus 18:22).

Responsorial Psalm
Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. (Psalm 127)

Second Reading
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals (I Corinthians 6:9-10)

Gospel Acclamation

Gospel
And Jesus said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh’ (Matthew 19:5)

Homily

The Rite of “Marriage”

Statement of Intentions

Consent and Exchange of Vows

Blessing and Exchange of Rings

Prayer of the Faithful and of the Couple

Nuptial Blessing

The Lord’s Prayer

Blessing

Recessional

There are many other options for each suggestion I’ve made, and I’m not going to fill in the rest, but it would be easy. One could offer a completely faithful set of readings and give those who flout God’s commandments and demand the right to defile a church one final opportunity to consider their actions. Why get “married” in a church if you don’t believe God’s word?

The whole point of the tax exemption was precisely to *keep* churches from being an arm of the state, because the power to tax is the power to destroy.

But now that churches and church members have gotten used to the tax exempt status, they become vulnerable to a government that can threaten to remove that exemption status if the wrong things are preached from the pulpit.
