Total Collapse Cannot Happen in America!
Email Subscription From Dr. Boys | June 30, 2012 | Don Boys, Ph.D.

“Total collapse can’t happen in America because I don’t want it to. Plus, it has never happened before so it can’t happen. I feel warm and fuzzy about our future.” That is called, the “normalcy bias” and will end up killing many Americans when financial depression and inflation take control.

When hyperinflation smacked Germany in the 1920s, Germans carried a bag full of German marks to purchase a loaf of bread. One family took a wheel barrow full of money to the grocery store for their weekly supplies but could not get the wheel barrow through the door. Leaving the wheel barrow full of money at the door, they went into the store to get bags and discovered upon their return, that their wheel barrow had been stolen and the money dumped on the sidewalk! Prices doubled every two days!

By 1923, the highest German banknote denomination was one hundred trillion marks! The German mark was so worthless, they were literally used for wallpaper, and housewives fed banknotes into their stoves because the banknotes burned longer and were less expensive than firewood!

When inflation was at its peak, it took 4 trillion German marks to purchase one U.S. dollar! One of the printing companies submitted a bill of 33 quintillion marks to the German Reich bank for their printing of the German marks!

In 1946, the Hungarian National Bank issued a bank note for 100 quintillion and in July, prices doubled every 15 hours! In 2008, Zimbabwe prices doubled every five days.

Are Americans and Canadians ready for recession, rationing, rebellion, rage, riots, and rampage? We will experience a time of reckoning and reaping what we have sown. Deflation, stagnation, and inflation will probably ravage the world.

This never-before-seen disaster will bring America to her knees which might be exactly what God has planned for us. When the television is turned off, God will get our attention.

No one wants to believe America and the world are on a toboggan slide to destruction where lives will be irrevocably changed forever but I believe it is coming. I do not believe “America’s best days are ahead of us.” The chaos taking place in Greece (bank runs, anarchy, and joblessness), Cyprus, Italy, and Spain will be replayed in America. It’s a fact that “The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain” and it is equally true that “The gain in Spain goes mainly down the drain.” That is obviously happening in the US today.

Few Americans will agree with me since a total financial collapse in America has never happened before. After all, this is America! We always come out on top. We are a special nation in God’s eyes. No worry. Be happy. Turn the television on and hand me a drink.

That attitude is called; “the normalcy bias” and it can kill.

The normalcy bias refers to a mental attitude people have when facing a disaster. It causes people to refuse to admit the evident facts they are facing. Because it has never happened here, it is not going to happen. It makes people close their eyes to approaching disaster and the tragic results. They always take hope in any small possible idea of making it less dangerous and less likely for a disaster to happen. They deceive themselves into an almost euphoric state. Their eyes and minds are closed to any possible danger. Like the ostrich with its head in the sand (not in real life), it becomes more exposed to danger. The progressive steps are deceit, defiance, disaster, and destruction.

This kind of thinking (or non-thinking) has been seen in many disasters when people were ordered to evacuate their homes but refused to do so knowing they were in the path of a storm or fire. In fact, studies reveal that 70% of people call others before deciding to leave the place of danger!

The normalcy bias was obvious in Nazi Germany where the Jews knew that their Jewish friends and neighbors were taken away during the night and never heard from again. They had heard about the concentration camps, but the most civilized, even “Christian” nation in Europe, could not stoop to commit such atrocities on innocent people. About 100,000 Jews left Germany by 1935 but about half a million remained. The atrocities continued to accelerate until it was too late. It was impossible, but it happened.

I am convinced chaos is ahead: riots, race wars, no gas deliveries, no food in the grocery stores (as someone said, “Americans are 15 meals from killing for food.”), utilities available a few hours each day, martial law and suspension of civil rights, mass arrests, gang control of many cities, neighbor fighting neighbor, closed highways, etc.

When governments fail along with the economy, authority disappears and the void is filled with anger, apathy, and anarchy. Get prepared for disaster ahead as much as possible: pay off your bills, put aside some food and water, medicines, tools, and plant a garden. After all when God finished creating the universe, the world, all animals, and man–He planted a garden (Gen.:8)! If God planted a garden, don’t you think we should follow His example?

I can almost hear the run-away “train” coming down the track. Get out of the way!

Pass it on if you agree!

I did, but apparently voting doesn’t work. Of course, there’s that other thing, but that would be rather drastic.

I have a sister-in-law and her husband who live in the glow of liberalism and normalcy bias. They live on the coast and have nothing in case of a hurricane.

My BIL and his NEA (socialist) wife think I'm pretty much a wing nut. They shop for groceries on Sunday....and buy just enough to get them through to....the next Sunday. She actually gets mad if he buys ahead on anything.

Anytime I want to push her button, I make a small, mildly critical remark about the government. Or if I really want to get her fired up, I bring up public schools and how our homeschooled daughter went to private college on scholarship at 16 and ran rings around the products of public school. It's really quite comical.

They refuse to even consider the possibility of a severe enough economic "downturn" to beget violence in the streets. Fortunately they live several states away, so they'll be on their own when things get worse.

That kind of smugness gets cured by reality.

If you can't do the math, or forge the metal, or make or find the food... You die.

That's pretty simple. Life has always been that way.

Amazing how many people think that the sky can't fall. But if you look at the history of man it's basically about all the 'sky falling' events we've had. Of course some were bigger, more devastating and left bigger scars than others. The truth is the sky does fall at time

Sometimes just a little of it falls.

And somtimes the whole damned thing falls down on you.

This happening all over the world Greece, Spain, Italy almost all of Europe. How many countries can Germany prop-up before they too are swamped? Britain and France are already so weak that the Islamist they have allowed to ‘invade’ them will most likely over run them when the time comes.

Here at home we find that the corner three card Monte dealer is more honest than most of the ‘Too Big to Fail’ banks and investment houses. And face it the Monte dealer who ‘scams’ a few hundred is a thousand times more likely to go to jail that the ‘banksters’ that are stealing millions.

If anyone doesn’t believe this is true then watch the big LIBOR scandal unfolding and see if anyone goes to jail. No one they will just fine them and even then the fine won’t equal a pittance compared to what these banks made.

The game is so rigged now that the fraudsters don’t even know how its going to play out. We are headed for some bad times, which is one of the reasons I’ve been sounding the alarm. Its time that you either prepare to stand on your own beholden to no one or accept that you will be a ‘serf’ dependent on others to provide your basic needs.

Check out Ferfal’s blog and Selco’s blog despite what so many think it is NOT impossible for a modern country to quickly fall into chaos! It’s happen before and it is happening now.

As for me I don’t want to be beholden to anyone for providing what is needed for me and mine. I certainly don’t want to have to kiss some ‘gubberment’ third class bureaucratic to try and coax some help from them, I don’t want some ‘jack booted’ thug herding me in line and telling me where to stand, sit, eat or sleep. And last but not least I don’t want to be shut up with a bunch of ‘zombies’ and have to worry about not only trying to get basic necessities but having to fight to keep what I manage to get.

Some seem to think that prepping is foolish, so I ask you what’s easier telling your children and loved ones why you prepared or explaining to them why you didn’t?

But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8

But then someone has to stand on the bridge waiting for FEMA to bring them a bottle of water, an MRE and a warm blanket so as to provide the Network Anchors their background ‘Money Shot’. I wonder how that will workout for them?

I am not saying that things will turn Mad Max/Book of Eli, (With the possible exception of a brief time in a few of the larger big blue cities) but things could easily breakdown for 30 to 60 days during which basic supplies, goods and services stop, banking stops (No checks No Credit Cards, No Debit Cards so on...) now how many people do you think are ready for such?

And between those not ready and those who have always had the ‘gubberment’ hand them everything what do you think the reaction will be?

Their reaction I think can be summed up in one of my favorite quotes:

Quark: Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. They’re a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You don’t believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes. ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8)” (1998)

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf

NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

Lastly this for the doubters and the scoffers.

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.

Underestimation can be fatal.”

What do you say to family members who completely agree with you about the state of the country and the state of the world, and yet when you suggest they prep, their answer is, “I don’t want to live through that.” ??? This is my situation.

Do they have a location suitable to prepping? I know a serious prepper guy, but he’s seriously deluded in the belief that he could hold on to his stuff if it really hit the fan. Despite thinking he’s Rambo, he lives in the middle of a suburban neighborhood, and will never be more than just one Molotov cocktail away from losing everything.

Not to throw cold water on this thread, but what happens if the entire world defaults on its debt? Is it total anarchy? Or does life go on with lots of people, banks and companies wiped out? Does everything start from zero or do politicians continue on their merry way, as if nothing happened?

Me, I’ll keep prepping and trying to convince family members of the need to prepare.

I'll field this question...

First, suppose that the nation is headed for disaster, but that it is destined to recover 12-18 months later? Do they then wish to die rather than face 12-18 months of inconvenience? If their answer is "yes" then I suggest you just write them off.

Also, what if tough times come, but it only requires a few months to adapt to the new reality? Doesn't it make infinitely more sense to simply prepare for that period of acclimatization than to eat a bullet?

Too many amongst us are just spoiled, unthinking children. The gene pool probably wouldn't be harmed too drastically should they decide not to prepare.

I’m near Houston. got an early start on my garden this year. Had everything planted by March 7th. Got a good crop of tomatoes, cucumbers, purple hull peas, squash, green beans and okra. The heat killed everything but the okra. Pulled up all the dead plants yesterday.

Gardening around here last 3 months max with about 3 weeks of harvesting.

Good points. People like this PhD fellow are part of the problem.

Screwed up money is a trailing effect, and just one measure, of a long period of dysfunction and collective stupidity.

It took mankind about 400 years to go from the development of the calculus to putting a man on the moon. It has taken less than 40 years to go from that crowning achievement of mankind to the edge of a New Dark Age.

In every sector of our economy and society, our organizations, businesses, industries, markets, governments, religions, politics, and anything else that needs leadership, are being run by the mind-numbingly stupid and willfully ignorant. What could possibly go wrong?

“It always cracks me up that these doom and gloom prophets end 0th advising you to pay off your bills. Lol. Why? borrow as much as you can, invest in hard assets, and pay them off with hyphenated dollars.

Or buy bullets and beans ...
And ignore your debt. In ther world prophesized you ares going to give a damn about your credit rating or bill collectors!”

I agree. Who’s going to be bill collecting after the collapse? Who’s going to be repossessing houses and vehicles? I’ve always thought that if I saw imminent signs of collapse I would go charge every one of my credit cards to the max at any gun store and grocery store I could get in to. I realize that’s fantasy land thinking because every one will be trying to do the same thing.

Even though I’ve been 100% debt-free for the past 23yrs, I don’t understand this on aspect of prepping advice:

“... pay off your bills...”

If the world/US economies collapse, what the heck does that matter? Are credit reports, bill collectors etc even a consideration if anarchy and chaos are rampant? Just asking.
