Do read Maccabees to see the historical facts of what happened to the Idumeans. The Maccabees who fought against the Seleucids conquered the Edomites/Idumeans and forcibly converted them to Judaism.
Herod the Great was an Idumean and the Idumeans and Judeans became one people. Many Idumeans perished in the Jewish uprising and the remainder became one with the Judean people to be henceforth known as Jews
The Edomite nation hence perished
in the meanwhile their land was taken over by the Nabateans who had moved into Edom (when the Israelites were taken away by Nebuchadnezzar, the Edomiates moved in and the Nabateans took over Edom's former territory)
The point is that Esau and Jacob (and Ishmael) are spiritual essences, not just what happened to DNA.
So if the Edomite kingdom perished, it’s spiritual essence essence will too.
Just curious: Has the prophecy of Obadiah been fulfilled?
Thanks Cronos. I should have said that the Edomite Kingdom was subjugated by David, ( 2 Samuel 8) maintained in subjection by Saul, and only remained as a vassal state until the reign of Jehoram,(2 Kings 8). I am going to devote another article in this series to
Edom in particular, in which I speak of the Herods, and the record of the Maccabees, and the prophecies of Ezekiel and Obadiah. According to Balaam’s prophecy, the struggle against the Edomites continues to the very end of time.
1)The Books of the Maccabees are not canonical scripture and were not written under the influence of Ruach HaQodesh. The Scriptural canon had already been closed by the 'Anshei-HaKenesset HaGedolah.
2)The Books of the Maccabees are part of the chrstian "old testament," and as all good chrstians know are not to be interpreted literally. They are poetic fugues of a primitive people who thought the earth was flat and that it was alright to kill Canaanites. Is this not so?
