Controversial cover questions LDS business practices [Mag cover image provokes Mormons]
Fox13 (Salt Lake City) ^ | July 13-14, 2012 | Brittany Green-Miner and Max Roth

SALT LAKE CITY – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is under national scrutiny again, this time from Businessweek, whose cover story this week investigates “How the Mormons Make Money.”

The article suggests that the LDS church doesn’t contribute many resources to charity and that they leverage volunteer hours for profit. Images that accompany the article are causing as much controversy, if not more, as the article’s words.

The periodical’s cover has an image of John the Baptist with hands on LDS founder Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry with a voice bubble saying, “…And thou shalt build a shopping mall, own stock in Burger King, and open a Polynesian theme park in Hawaii that shall be largely exempt from the frustrations of tax…”

SNIP

The story describes the church’s $2 million investment in the recently-opened City Creek Center. Jason Mathis with the Downtown Alliance says that the investment didn’t come from tithes of the LDS faithful.

SNIP

FOX 13 couldn’t find an example of another mainstream religion that is as invested in business as the LDS church.

AND you are going to "prove" Mittens is a "Communist" as you "suggest?"

The only proof I offered is that historically speaking, MormonISM
-- by one Mormon writer's own admission (citing the 3rd Lds "prophet")
-- practiced (past tense) communism.

Other than that, we would probably each agree that ObamaCare and RomneyCare is socialism.

So...Obama & Romney ARE the "twin pioneers of socialism."

While I can list many, many instances whereby Dear Leader has appeased, defended, praised, and supported the "Religion of Pieces" (WHAT TA "F" DO YOU THINK IT MEANS WHEN HE PERSONALLY RECRUITS AND APPOINTS "MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD" ADVISERS?)....

Iow, you can't -- or won't PROVE Obama IS Muslim!

MEANWHILE, chew on this: "Obama Admits He Is A Muslim Video http://republicmainstreet.wordpress.com/2012/02/19/obama-admits-he-is-a-muslim-video-hannity-pressured-to-not-show-it/ Go ahead, the ball is in your court!!!

You're funny! You take us to a clip where THE VERY FIRST written content on the clip is: Legal Disclaimer: The writers, producers, editors, and publishers of this video are not stating, claiming, or implying that Barack Hussein Obama is a Muslim, or that Obama himself has claimed or admitted that he's a Muslim.

Which side of the argument are you on again????

For all we know, Obama's Muslim roots are like Rubio's Mormonism roots. Rubio went back to the Roman Catholic church at age 12...Obama? We know he landed with Rev. Wright; since then, who knows?

What's "funny" about flaky FREEPER claims about Obama's religiosity is that when I've posted Mormon doctrine claiming temple Mormons are "gods-in-embryo" on their way up to full-grown godhood, we get numerous "cutesy" comments like "Obama already is a god" (in his own eyes).

Yet, if Obama IS a Muslim -- as many more FREEPERs have claimed -- then polytheism would be the last thing a TRUE Muslim would embrace!

FREEPERs just can't keep their stories straight about Obama's supposed religiosity because too many don't trade in facts and evidence and proof...just empty conjectures. Now some conjectures may have a basis of reality; and some conjectures may prove to have been so. But minus the facts & evidence & proof, the world just sees it as baseless gossip...no better than what two neighborly busybodies might engage in.

"RomneyCare is socialism."

I disagree. Romneycare does not involve any state owned businesses. It specifically involves privately owned insurance companies.

You apparently cannot read.

Of all the threads on FreeRepublic, the Religion Forum threads concerning Mormonism are the best sourced on FreeRepublic. The flying Imams provide all sorts of proof from the foundational documents of Mormonism, their bible, and the Christian Bible. They also use the words of Mormon Leaders themselves in context to prove their points.

You, on the other hand, constantly display an irrational hatred towards those proving their point using a solid factual and logical process.

Well then by all means, why not enlighten me oh erudite and knowledgeable one?

PLEASE PROVIDE WHAT I KEEP (REPEATING OVER AND OVER AND OVER) ASKING FOR:

1. ANYTHING which shows (TODAY, in modern time and not 100+ years ago) whereby ANY "Prominent" Mormon (of course that ESPECIALLY includes Romney) advocates the replacing of our Constitution with the "Book of Mormons?"

2. PREACHES hatred (and the KILLING) of Jews as well as the DESTRUCTION of Israel?

3. The KILLING of those who leave the Mormon religion?

4. That of "Destroying our miserable house from within by our own hand?"

5. The STONING of women merely for being "Accused" of adultery?

6. Impressing upon ALL Mormons that they have a "Duty" (and OBLIGATION) to wage a "HOLY WAR" against ALL "others" (world-wide) until there is but one Religion..."Mormonism."

7. How one can be threatened with DEATH if one insults the Mormon Religion of John Smith?

Do you really want me to go one and list another 20 or 30 examples?

I'm waiting!!!!

I have an idea stick to the thread about mormonISM and their business practice.
If you are interested in talking about islam an their business practices, start a new thread.
Of course you could start a thread comparing and contrasting mormonISM and islam, that would be interesting. This poster however is talking about mommonISM and their business practices.

Sorry, I guess you missed the part about this thread being in the Religion Forum, oh and the part about exposing mormonISM.
Exposing mormonISM is not hatred of mormons, but hey its not on me if you don’t see the difference.
Start your own thread about islam, really its that simple.
It might serve you well to learn about the structure of mormonISM before you defend it.

Romney received $600 mil from taxpayers money to bail out the Olympics, so failure would depend on your point of view.

“I will be to this generation a second Mohammed, whose motto in treating for peace was ‘the Alcoran [Koran] or the Sword.’ So shall it eventually be with us—” Joseph Smith or the Sword!, 1838

Joseph Smith prophesied that he was superior to the laws of the land. I would yet tread down our enemies, and walk over their dead bodies; and will not let alone, will be a second Mohammed to this generation, and that I would make it one gore of blood from the Rocky mountains to the Atlantic ocean; that like Mohammed, whose motto in treating for peace was, ‘the Alcoran or the Sword.’ So should it be eventually with us, ‘Joseph Smith or the Sword.’ (History of the Church 3:167).

Two references for your edification.

This is the foundation of mormonISM.

AGAIN: You have NOT met the conditions elaborated in post #11...there were TWO of them.

You vainly TRIED to meet condition #1...which, I pointed out in post #25, you utterly failed.

Islam is irrelevant to this thread -- no matter how much you vainly try to make it about that.

I'm wondering how much went to the Olympics or to Federal Agencies for safety & security services ?

What was the comparison to other year of Olympics?

It specifically requires people to buy insurance and forces insurance companies to provide coverage. IOW, with everyone paying into it, it is a redistribution of wealth from those who do not need it to those who do, which at the same time raises the rates for all in order to continue paying for it. It also was subsidized by tax money not just from Mass., but from the federal government to the tune of millions of dollars.
