Why a Dallas UM pastor is observing the Muslim fast of Ramadan

United Methodist Rev. Wess Magruder has not only decided to observe the Ramadan fast this year with his Muslim friends, blog about his experience, but break his fast with Muslims as well. Last night, Magruder accepted the invitation of a local Muslim to eat “iftar,” the fast-breaking meal at the McKinney Islamic Association. Having succeeded in fasting from sunrise till sunset for eight consecutive days, the pastor appreciated God's grace in this communal meal. Most importantly, this celebration reminded him of the main reason why he had decided to fast: neighborly love.

Magruder writes on his blog how he has been feeling spiritually stale lately and how he was yearning to the old Christian fast that he believes Americans are not big fans of. Therefore, Magruder turned to the Muslim faith for inspiration since he knew that Muslims have successfully been fasting for 30 days each year during Ramadan for over fourteen hundred years. The Muslim fast is a total abstention from eating and drinking during the daylight hours. Furthermore, the fast goes beyond the stomach to include the eyes, the tongue, the ears, and all limbs which are expected to be trained to submit to the pleasure of God by refraining from ill manners and moral vice. A few Muslims succeed in attaining a heart-fast where they become spiritually submissive to the divine as well.

Skipping lunch is not a fast.

>>(yeah, tell me it’s not more than THAT!)

Sadly, its a lot more than that. This pathetic little dhimmi clown believes in the One World Religion: the one that denies Christ and dooms humanity. He claims to be a Christian, but can’t even bring himself to pray to Jesus before his newfound “friends” who have to be laughing their butts off at this fool’s weakness.

I have heard that — back in the ~1930s, there was no more evangelistic denomination in the US than the old-line Methodists.

However, since becoming the “United Methodists,” and allowing libs to take over their seminaries, the Methodists have for the most part been a drag on the American Christian scene.

Here in Texas, they seem to thrive and grow — for reasons I cannot quite comprehend. (I suspect that some of the UM pastors in these parts are either less liberal than their northern colleagues — or else they learn to keep their liberal views to themselves while wearing cowboy boots and going deer hunting.)

However, this pastor’s no doubt well-intentioned Ramadan gambit is a glowing example of the shallow level of Christian theology that dominates United Methodist circles.

To with, he is to his Muslim “friends,” at best a dhimmi, and at worst, nothing more than a filthy kafir ape worthy of death.

His goodwill ‘gesture’ will elicit no goodwill in the implacable hearts of the Muslims in his neighborhood — the caliphate must be established!

how he was yearning to the old Christian fast

The only Christian fast this guy could be referring to, is the Catholic "no meat on Friday" fast, or potentially the even older, more universally Christian fasts of Wednesdays & Fridays.

Though likely he'd rather die than admit any connection to Catholicism (yet not, of course, to Islam).

Must have converted when he was in Muslim West Africa.

“Rev. Wes Magruder, D.Min. is Associate Pastor at FUMC Rowlett. Most recently, he served as a commissioned missionary of the General Board of Global Ministries, assigned to serve in Yaounde, Cameroon, West Africa as the Director of the United Methodist Mission in Cameroon.”

The Senior pastor at that church is female. as are 3 of the 6 associates.

You’d think the female associate pastor from Kenya would know the difference between Christians and Muzzies.

I might add that the pastor is probably woefully ignorant of the true nature of Islam, as are most Americans.

I suggest he begin reading AtlasShrugs, CreepingSharia, and BareNakedIslam to get a quick immersion course!

Are you referring to Hanukkah and the defiling of the temple by the heathen? We need to find a way to differentiate the diverse group of Christians from the deverse group of heretical false Christians. Who cares what the phony does? He is dust on our feet.

well, in one way — he is trying to re-learn the blessings of fasting, which is what we in the West have neglected. I don’t agree with where he’s learning it from, but he is looking for something that we have lost.

I was in California. I tried another congregation and it was the same. I haven't gone to church since moving to Arizona. I know I will go again sometime but my work here is so stressful, I need the time on the weekends to just prepare for another awful week of work.

"The Methodist Church left me over a decade ago."

I'm not sure when they left me. I grew up in the Methodist Church before it was the "United" Methodist Church. I spent twenty years in the military and my wife and I were often back and forth between a base chapel and local Methodist Churches. I'm not sure when the "United" thing happened, but it was probably in the early to mid sixties, but when it did happen, I immediately noticed that the church literature took a leftward turn. I was much younger at that time and was less sensitive to things "politically left" and simply tolerated it for a while. Don't recall when I called it quits with the UMC.
