Utah NBC Affiliate Won’t Air New Gay Couple Comedy ‘The New Normal’

NBC’s Utah affiliate KSL-TV strikes again. The station, which is owned by the Mormon church, announced today that it won’t air the network’s new comedy series New Normal. Co-created by Ryan Murphy and Ali Adler, The New Normal stars Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha as gay partners who are having a baby through a surrogate. “For our brand, this program simply feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time,” Jeff Simpson, CEO of KSL’s parent company, Bonneville International, told local papers, including KSL sibling Deseret News. The New Normal is scheduled to air Tuesdays at 8:30 PM. Simpson cited “rude and crude” dialogue, scenes that “may be too explicit” or characterizations that “might seem offensive.” The show features racy language mostly courtesy of the outspoken, politically incorrect character of the surrogate’s mother played by Ellen Barkin.

KSL, which does not carry NBC’s Saturday Night Live, has a long history of preemting NBC primetime series it deems controversial. Last fall, it dropped period drama The Playboy Club for “objectionable material. (The series was picked up by MyNetworkTV’s station in the Salt Lake City market.) KSL’s previous NBC casualties include NBC’s racy comedy Coupling and the religious-themed animated comedy God, the Devil and Bob. Both, as well as The Playboy Club were quickly cancelled. Barkin tonight called KSL’s decision “blatantly homophic” on Twitter. “Shame on u ‪@KSLcom‬ not airing ‪@NBCTheNewNormal.‬ So L&O SVU (rape & child murder) is ok? But loving gay couple having a baby is inappropriate?” she wrote. “What will play in @NBCTheNewNormal‬ spot? A dude reading from the bible?”

Television is a vast wasteland, not to mention pure leftist propaganda rather than wholesome entertainment.

There was a time when the major broadcast studios of NBC, CBS, and ABC would conclude programs with the words, “thank you for allowing us into your homes this evening.” These days, it's “thank you for joining us.” We'll I chose not to join them or allow them into my home ever again. I wish my fellow citizens would do the same. It's quite simple and painless. Pull the plug. Deposit on the curb. The peace and quiet that descends upon the house is like a breath of fresh air. I threw out all the TVs in the house, and stopped watching television over two years ago. I haven't missed a thing. Go ahead. Pull the plug. You won't miss a thing.

Hope this tanks, but they’ll probably keep it alive even if no one is watching.

That station knows what they’re doing. Everyone of those shows folded within a month.

Gee whiz, I just loved how NBC jammed it down the viewer’s throats during the Olympics. (no sexual metaphor intended. Then there was an extended segment on some homosexual diver from Australia about how happy he was being a homosexual with shots of him in a gay pride parade. Does NBC have an agenda? No way man. (snicker)

Can we agree that this show should be referred to by a more correct (though not politically so) title, The Not Normal?

“The New Normal”

With the true (not media-hyped) low percentage of queer Americans? I hardly think so.

With the vast majority of Americans - in many referendums - rejecting gay “marriage”, it is NOT the “new normal”, rather a propagandizing attempt to try and make it “normal”.

The weirdest two-percent of America I trying to set the agenda for the other 98 percent, with all the help they need from Hollywood and the media.

This show needs to start out with a huge refusal to support it by the advertisers.

It’s time America stopped letting the left define “normal”.

It might help to know that KSL & KSL-TV are owned by the Bonneville Corp, (the Mormon Church).

I saw the preview for this show during the Olympics and remarked to my wife that it seemed like the major networks have entered a new level of silliness to promote the gay lifestyle and agenda.

It seems like every show on TV these days has to have a couple gay characters who are portrayed as the smart and caring ones. Then each show has a foil who prevents their happiness due to conservative social values. And of course the foil is portrayed as a dim bulb who is always proven uncaring and wrong in the end.

Reminds me of all the movies and TV shows in the 1980’s where the conservative would be mean, stupid or evil and have the photo of Ronald Reagan prominently displayed behind their desk.

I gave up on all TV several years ago. Can honestly say I don't miss it a bit.

So now the queers are pushing their degenerate lifestyle as, "The New Normal?" Hopefully, not in my lifetime.

Food for thought:

Queers: "We are the 2-3%."

I find the commercials offensive - they’ve been aired during football games..

Me too.

The only reason I still have a TV is because of football: NFL and college.

And I'm relentlessly bombarded with filth during the commercial breaks. Even product commercials.

While watching a game with my grandson, a Jack-in-the-Box commercial came on. It showed a scrabble game going on between "Jack" and his wife. At the end of it, she spells out "nonookie."

So of course, my grandson asks me what that word means. I just told him it was a made-up nonsense word, and changed the subject.

Football is FAMILY-VIEWING time. What the hell is wrong with a network that believes such sexual themes are appropriate to show at such times????!!!!!!

Rant over...

I did something similar. Dropped the cable but kept the TV. If I watch anything, it is a DVD. I control the programming (although glancing over at my DVD collection one would be hard pressed to find too much produced within the past ten years). One of the best things I've done.

Gay will never be the new normal, no matter how much PC forces people to pretend otherwise. While there may be cute gay couples, especially in Hollywood, homosexuality will always be a perversion.

Same here, except for sports and "Chopped" I don't watch TV. And with a DVR I don't watch commercials.

Seems like I haven't missed anything good.

Whites always played the idiots on Sanford and Son remember the smart black cop and the idiot white cop?

Other black shows were the same The Jeffersons where the idiot was married to the black woman.

Now they do the same with the fruits, Hollywood has done a fabulous job of promoting the gay lifestyle and hiding the real lifestyle in black ghetto’s. I don’t remember ever seeing a drive-by in Fred Sanford’s neighborhood.
You won’t see Aids and HIV or prolapsed rectums on this new show

I never considered “Tom” to be the idiot of that show. A little “soft” maybe not not an idiot. The idiot was their neighbor “Bently”, he was always doing and saying stupid things.

Think how much greater a viewing audience the networks could attract if they decided that ONLY genuine, family-friendly programming was aired. Not that long ago, what is now shown on prime time television was not even available on cable or even movie theaters. And we wonder where the innocence of our children has gone or why our society has become baser and more corrupt. Cause and effect.

I have not had tv in my house for about 25 years, mainly because i got tired of the sleaze bags in the media but also the modern movies that are put on just for the purpose of changing peoples way of thinking and changing moral values.

I honestly believed that most Christians had a higher standard than i did but it seems like most of them are still watching that sleazy stuff,

I just watch videos on my tv, you know, the x rated ones like Gene Autry and Roy Rogers.
