Utah NBC Affiliate Won’t Air New Gay Couple Comedy ‘The New Normal’

NBC’s Utah affiliate KSL-TV strikes again. The station, which is owned by the Mormon church, announced today that it won’t air the network’s new comedy series New Normal. Co-created by Ryan Murphy and Ali Adler, The New Normal stars Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha as gay partners who are having a baby through a surrogate. “For our brand, this program simply feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time,” Jeff Simpson, CEO of KSL’s parent company, Bonneville International, told local papers, including KSL sibling Deseret News. The New Normal is scheduled to air Tuesdays at 8:30 PM. Simpson cited “rude and crude” dialogue, scenes that “may be too explicit” or characterizations that “might seem offensive.” The show features racy language mostly courtesy of the outspoken, politically incorrect character of the surrogate’s mother played by Ellen Barkin.

KSL, which does not carry NBC’s Saturday Night Live, has a long history of preemting NBC primetime series it deems controversial. Last fall, it dropped period drama The Playboy Club for “objectionable material. (The series was picked up by MyNetworkTV’s station in the Salt Lake City market.) KSL’s previous NBC casualties include NBC’s racy comedy Coupling and the religious-themed animated comedy God, the Devil and Bob. Both, as well as The Playboy Club were quickly cancelled. Barkin tonight called KSL’s decision “blatantly homophic” on Twitter. “Shame on u ‪@KSLcom‬ not airing ‪@NBCTheNewNormal.‬ So L&O SVU (rape & child murder) is ok? But loving gay couple having a baby is inappropriate?” she wrote. “What will play in @NBCTheNewNormal‬ spot? A dude reading from the bible?”

It might help to know that KSL & KSL-TV are owned by the Bonneville Corp, (the Mormon Church).

I guess you somehow missed reading the very first sentence.

The New Normal stars Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha as gay partners

Iccch!

So glad I don't watch TeeVee, and haven't for many, many years.

I gave up on all TV several years ago. Can honestly say I don't miss it a bit.

So now the queers are pushing their degenerate lifestyle as, "The New Normal?" Hopefully, not in my lifetime.

Food for thought:

Queers: "We are the 2-3%."

‘The new immoral-normal’ should be the name of this latest gar-bage from Hollyweird. Check the advertisers and give them a jingle.

Why do they keep calling her a surrogate? Whose egg is it? Seems to me that she’s the mother, although that’s not explained.

I find the commercials offensive - they’ve been aired during football games..

Me too.

The only reason I still have a TV is because of football: NFL and college.

And I'm relentlessly bombarded with filth during the commercial breaks. Even product commercials.

While watching a game with my grandson, a Jack-in-the-Box commercial came on. It showed a scrabble game going on between "Jack" and his wife. At the end of it, she spells out "nonookie."

So of course, my grandson asks me what that word means. I just told him it was a made-up nonsense word, and changed the subject.

Football is FAMILY-VIEWING time. What the hell is wrong with a network that believes such sexual themes are appropriate to show at such times????!!!!!!

Rant over...

I threw out all the TVs in the house, and stopped watching television over two years ago. I haven't missed a thing. Go ahead. Pull the plug. You won't miss a thing.

I did something similar. Dropped the cable but kept the TV. If I watch anything, it is a DVD. I control the programming (although glancing over at my DVD collection one would be hard pressed to find too much produced within the past ten years). One of the best things I've done.

Gay will never be the new normal, no matter how much PC forces people to pretend otherwise. While there may be cute gay couples, especially in Hollywood, homosexuality will always be a perversion.

Same here, except for sports and "Chopped" I don't watch TV. And with a DVR I don't watch commercials.

Seems like I haven't missed anything good.

Whites always played the idiots on Sanford and Son remember the smart black cop and the idiot white cop?

Other black shows were the same The Jeffersons where the idiot was married to the black woman.

Now they do the same with the fruits, Hollywood has done a fabulous job of promoting the gay lifestyle and hiding the real lifestyle in black ghetto’s. I don’t remember ever seeing a drive-by in Fred Sanford’s neighborhood.
You won’t see Aids and HIV or prolapsed rectums on this new show

They should start with Home Depot, Target, and JC Penny.

Two of those are going in the tank anyway.

I never considered “Tom” to be the idiot of that show. A little “soft” maybe not not an idiot. The idiot was their neighbor “Bently”, he was always doing and saying stupid things.

Think how much greater a viewing audience the networks could attract if they decided that ONLY genuine, family-friendly programming was aired. Not that long ago, what is now shown on prime time television was not even available on cable or even movie theaters. And we wonder where the innocence of our children has gone or why our society has become baser and more corrupt. Cause and effect.

Someone with a strong stomach should watch it, if only to collect the names of advertisers. Nothing gets rid of trash on TV faster than telling sponsors they're paying good money to lose customers.
