Why The Heathen Rage...pt 1

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.(Psalm 2:1-4)

Like most civilized people, I have been reeling from the world events of the previous week or so, especially Sept 11, 2011. I have not been surprised in any way at the attacks on our embassies, although it is shocking to me that those who swore to “defend the constitution of our nation from enemies both here and abroad” could be so utterly derelict in their responsibility.

Rather than being surprised, I have been reeling because of the hideous spectacle of murderous hatred put on display in the streets of Cairo, Libya, and now rapidly spreading around the world.

Each of the sickening ingredients of all that is humanly fallen and twisted by sin are there for all of the world to see; the baying Muslim mob, the perfidy of the Libyan “security detail”, the bloody handprints of a betrayed ambassador being drug out of a burning “safe house” that he might be “cell phone” pictured in his final agony, as he is dragged by the bloodthirsty, hateful crowds.

Such utter hatred and contempt for another human being is actually hard on the soul to witness. Behold the “Muslim Street”!

Adding insult to painful injury, this Ambassador of a rapidly falling superpower was violated by his murderers in the most appalling and degrading way. Through cell phone, internet and instantaneous communications, the sane and civilized world has just been traumatized.

The Heathen are raging, as the Psalmist foretold. The nations are going turbulent, they are becoming visibly restless, as Jesus told us they would in the days leading up to His coming back to set up His Kingdom.

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.(Luke 21:25-27)

The Psalm tells us why the “heathen rage”. It comes down to two things, 1) a vain thing that they imagine, and 2) the leaders, the so-called “kings of the earth and their rulers”.

The nations of the middle east are inflamed, for the leaders that once suppressed them, and somewhat kept this rage under control, were removed for the most part, by the movement known as the ”Arab Spring”. Those former leaders, the Shah of Iran, Sadam Hussein, Hosni Mubarak, Moamir Gaddafi, and the currently besieged Bashir al Assad of Syria all had this in common, they were nominal Muslims, they ran their nations as secular states. They weren’t western liberals, they ran their countries with secret police, torture and oppression, especially towards those aspiring Jihadists.

They knew who they were dealing with in their restive populations, and did what they had to, to maintain power.

You could say that with the events that commenced early in 2011, the cork has come out of the bottle, and the pent-up murderous hatred, envy, and frustration, (all fermented by Islam), is erupting on the world. That is what we saw in Benghazi,Libya and in other cities where there is a concentration of Muslims.

The new "leaders" of the Muslim world do just hat the old ones did, they lie to the people, stir them up into murderous rages to use them as a club on the West. The whole "Movie" issue recently was a patently obvious farce. But Islam has rendered the "Muslim Street" easily impassioned, senseless, and emotionally unstable as we see time and again. These people aren't "right" in the head when it comes to rumor or inuendo.

This doesn’t end well, so everybody had better get right with God, through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Psalmist speaks of he people being captured by a “vain Imagination”.

In the case of the Muslim world, the “vain Imagination” is manifold. The scholar, Bernard Lewis wrote an insightful book called “What Went Wrong?”, which says that the Islamic world is in crisis, because they were supposed to have conquered the world by now, and were destined to be the masters of the infidels.

From its inception, storming out of the Arabian peninsula, Islam enjoyed centuries of stunning successes in conquering, and subjugating and even extinguishing many Peoples, until about the 17th century. Europe bypassed the Muslim in every area; science, technology, wealth, civilization, and culture.

The ultimate humiliation, for the Muslim world, is its inability to remove Israel, the nation which came again into being in 1948, in fulfillment of the words of the Hebrew Prophets and the apostles of the New Testament. The Arabs call it “al Naqba”, the catastrophe!

Perhaps for the muslim world , “the vain Imagination” is that Islam can take her rightful pre-eminence in the world, if she can just “wipe Israel” off of the map. After all, Israel has only been able to continue its existence through the intervention of the western world, from which she re-emerged. the USA in particular is the reason they believe Israel has survived.

To the Muslim world, it seems obvious, that though we in the west have the power in terms of military might, we don’t have the will to crush them. They see that because we in the west seem to have lost our Christian faith and thus our civilizational confidence, the time seems right for them to make a move.

Islam feels that it is her time, not realizing that she is rushing towards her own judgment at the hands of the God of Israel whom she despises.

So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction. Therefore thus saith the Lord; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the Lord of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.(Zechariah 1:14-16)

This guy writes like the last week suddenly has him thinking about this.

Try the last 20 years for me, personally.

Pastor, I understand, but reeling from a muzzie hit squad and their murderous rampage? They have been doing this since they came out of the desert. Keep the faith, aid the weak, defend the innocent. Be calm in the Lord. He is with us. I think that is encouraging.

It is time that those who call upon the Lord of Hosts implore His blessing on Israel.

I hear you, I have been trying to expose Islam for more than ten years.I know full well what Islam is all about. As I said, I wasn’t surprised. This is Islam in all of it’s glory. But, I am appalled, nonetheless. It is sickening to see and always puts me in an ominousfeeling. Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks for the post PB.

I've often thought that satan is using islam not just to get a lot of killing, stealing and destroying done but to instill in the world a fear and loathing of mono-theism..

Whenever the latest muslim outrage happens upon the public (at least here in Oz) people talk about 'religion' being the problem not islam.

The devil is getting a lot of mileage out of islam by using it to get the world to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Thanks again for your post.

God bless

Pastor Bill, I see the point you would like to make in this sermonette, but I don't feel that it covers the main point. Your hypothesis is:

The Psalm tells us why the “heathen rage”. It comes down to two things, 1) a vain thing that they imagine, and 2) the leaders, the so-called “kings of the earth and their rulers”.

Is this what the Scripture says here? Let's take a closer and more precise look at it:

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?"

Firstly, there are two classes of humans (all of Adam) here. They are: (1) the humans whose God is The God of the Bible; and (2) the humans whose god is not The God of the Bible. Class 1 here is "the people" of verse 1, the People of The God. In contrast, Class 2 is "the heathen," worldlings whose god is the god of this age, Satan.

What humans belong to Class 1? I say that The Bible indicates this consists of two further subclasses: (A) the blood descendants of Jacob/Israel, who came under the Law, the first, Old Covenant; and (B) those professing faith in The Christ of the second, New Covenant.

Furthermore, these may be subdivided. Class 1.A is if two varieties: (i) religious, observant Jews, and (ii) secular, nonobservant Jews.

Similarly (but not identically) Class 1.B. comprises: (i) confessing, regenerated, following believers in Christ; and (ii) professing, unregenerated adherent believers in the Christian religion. These can be further classified, but for Psalm 2:1, this is not necessary.

On the other hand, Class 2, the heathen, could be classified on other bases, but not here as to relationship to The God. Looking into Psalm 2:1, it is not particularly the illogical, emotional, raging idolatrous heathen that are said to imagine/reason/logically conclude a vain thing -- it is The People who are said to be dealing with Jehovah with vain reasoning (humasnistic theology) rather than with believing, obedient faith! (Going forward, please note that the definition in the Koine of "Christos" is in English "The Anointed One," or just plain "Anointed" for short, as it would be "Messiach" in the Hebrew language in Psalm 2:2.)

Secondly, what is that vain thing they were imagining? It is the concept of agreeing both within their own national borders, and internationally as well, to break The Law of The Jehovah God which is embodied in the laws of their various constitutions and charters; and to throw out any restraints placed on their desire to institute a world government, just as before the language was confounded.

"And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." (Gen. 11:6-7)

Thirdly, who is it that is doing the reasonings (theology) of Christendom and Judaism? I believe it is their kings (and presidents) who are determined, and their rulers (religious figures and civil plenipotentiaries)...

"The kings of the earth st themselves, and their rulers take counsel together, ..." Fourthly, how are they conjointly convened to advance their mutual interests? It is those who "take counsel together against JEHOVAH and HIS CHRIST.

The only ones not in agreement with his are Class 1.A.i. observant, Messiach-loving (but God-blinded) Jews and Class 1.B.i. confessing, regenerate, believing followers of The Christ of the Cross.

So what is my point?

It is that we have allowed the ruling of the United States to be taken over by a numerically superior band of Class 2 heathen, leavened by a segment of Class 1.A.ii secular Jewish and Class 1.B.ii professors (but not possessors) of Christ; who will not come out, be separate, and 'touch not the unclean thing' (2 Cor. 6:17-7:1). The minor constituent of still-believing Christ-following representatives are generally over-ruled and likely not re-elected.

Therefore, not supporting Israel, and maddening the heathen (who want nothing to do with the christian principle of representative democracy, derived from the Protestant church polity of congregationalism), our godly motto "In God We Trust" has become a mockery to the world, and we can count on chastening instituted by The God when we bring His Name into disrepute, as He has chastened other nations that have abandoned Him.

Take it from there, Pastor Bill. Bring some preaching against The People who imagine a vain thing. The Muslims, the spawn of Ishmael (and Edom, and Ham, and Japheth) are only doing what they have been, long before Mohammed or Marx or Buddha.

With sincere respect --

" These people aren't "right" in the head when it comes to rumor or inuendo "

More like they are possessed.

Can the " imagine a vain thing " be as the same when God says that since they believed the lie, that he will send them strong delusions ? or is it something else ? the lie ? is the lie that anyone can come to God in their own way other than Christ ?

Simply put, a good example of raging heathens are godless atheistic liberals in Follywood.
In that Psalm ? it says, " let us put their bands asunder " ... that is ? they don't want nothing to do with God.
They rage because their sin convicts their own heart.
They rage because their god is the god of this present age, or this world. they only do what their father ( the father of lies ) tells them to do.
That's what Paul talks about in the book of Ephesians when he says " the course of this world " .

Every rational person knows that is Israel didn’t exist, these violent people would still be pathetic losers. Israel (and by extension the U.S.) is the focus for their rage because deep down they know they’re thoroughly incompetent and incapable of living amongst civilized people.

Beautiful summation brother, I couldn’t have said it better! Please note that this “sermonette” is only the introduction to a series, and my next post was going to be on the “vain Imagination” that captures the west, and is embodied in our “elite”. I believe that the “Kings of the earth and their rulers” includes much more than political or governmental leadership. The Lord is referring to our “ruling class” in fields of Academia, opinion shapers in the MEdia, Religion, in short, all of the so called “Experts” . All of them seem to share a consensus, that we as a society have outgrown the old religion, and should throw off its shackles and repudiate the LORD and his Christ.Wirness the recent Democratic convention for an example of this.

I just can’t see putting everything in one post, as I have found people seem to only be able to take about a 1000 words at a time of my writings. Thanks for the encouragement.

that is certainly part of it. The Muslims are certainly being decieved into thinking their time of triumph has come. The “Lie” is that we can build a world without God, or even that we ourselves are “god”.

I believe, Pastor Bill, that I am getting your drift on this. You are right, I am anticipating your discussion on the imaginations of the oh-so-smart religious and academic authorities who have taken the saving Gospel of The Christ beyond what He intended.

I have read through several of your commentaries with appreciation. They always seem to be thoughtful and of a nature to improve the reader's spiritual maturity; as well as generating a greater excitement in searching the Scriptures daily to see if it be so.

With humble regards -- preach on!
