Catholic group calls for KC Bishop Robert Finn to resign

Members of a national Catholic organization on Sunday demanded the resignation of Bishop Robert W. Finn, who was convicted this month of failing to report child sexual abuse.

The National Survivor Advocates Coalition, which has its headquarters in Dayton, Ohio, held a news conference at Barney Allis Plaza in downtown Kansas City - in the shadow of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception - to make its demand.

"A criminally convicted bishop cannot lead. Bishop Finn must resign or be removed by Pope Benedict," said coalition chairwoman Kristine Ward. "Every hour he remains bishop revictimizes survivors and their families."

How much of this is real with these so-called “survivors”, and how much of it is cashing in on the gravy train?

Sounds like just another version of SNAP, the so-called survivor’s network which may have began with good intentions but which has morphed into an anti-Catholic bunch out for their own self-serving interests.

If he’s convicted, he should step down. I don’t care who the complainers are. I care who the bishop is. There are plenty of priests with integrity and skill who could be elevated to bishop. This guy is not irreplaceable.

///
i agree. He failed to report to Police.
...just as anyone at Penn State who knew,
and didn’t report it, should have been fired.

To: Elendur; All

and, all of the many many many public school administrators,
across the country, who know about suspected abuse,
should be fired !
-
...and, almost ALL this abuse, is by gay men.
as a high risk group, they simply should NOT be allowed near children. not as boy scout leaders.
and certainly not to adopt children !

I would strongly suggest that you look at what misdemeanor is involved, the suspended probation, and realize that not all who cry wolf are motivated by that which is right. Some, like these mewlers-in-the-night look for money, attention, or trying to increase what they see as their power. Bishop Finn is fine. The group in question is questionable, at best. In other words, this group seeks to make a mountain out of what isn’t even a molehill, and to top that, the paper in question, if memory serves, has something of a history of strong dislike of Bishop Finn. Bah. Look up the particulars of the case, as in the judgement.
