-Yoga instructor Cori Withell was told activity was part of Hindu religion -37-year-old banned from using Catholic church hall despite paying up beforehand -She said the class was just for exercise and did not feature meditation -Ban not Catholic church policy - decision left to discretion of individual priests

Banned: Fitness instructor Cori Withell was told she could not hold her yoga class at a Catholic church as it was a Hindu religious activity

She meant her yoga classes to be a calming and relaxing experience for all those concerned.

Instead, Cori Withell has ended up flustered and frustrated after a priest banned her from his church hall because her lessons are ‘not compatible’ with the Catholic faith.

The 37-year-old instructor was told by Father John Chandler that yoga is a Hindu religious activity and therefore not in keeping with his rules on promoting Catholic activities.

Sins of a Solar Empire... I heard you are allowed to copy the original disc for friends without copyright worries. Is that true?

She is also straightforward in explaining the role of sexual energy in virtually all forms of yoga and of ritualized sex in some yoga traditions. She also explains that yoga “is one of the first and most successful products of globalization, and it has augured a truly post-Christian, spiritually polyglot country.”

ritualized sex... by all means bring the kids

Of all the places I’ve visited, including retreats and Ashrams and classes in a variety of states, I’ve never seen anything sexual at all.

YMMV

If they are chanting to “the gods” then it has no place in a Christian church, get their own temple or something

No, nothing sexual about a room full of fit women in pink leotards in the Downward Facing Dog position.

Only if someone wants to make it sexual, otherwise, it’s nothing more than a position exercise designed to strengthen the shoulder girdle, hamstrings, and abs.

Why would Yoga be going on in a church in the first place?
*************************************************

Why not? Haven't you ever heard the expression body, mind, and soul?

Our yoga instructor is a church member that that teaches yoga for a living. She is kind enough to offer a Tuesday night class at our church. Our church welcomes it with open arms.
We also have a financial freedom class on Wednesdays, and a building and home repair class a few times a month.

We also have the more traditional groups like the recovery group, women's group, men's group, youth groups, and of course bible study groups.

We are adding or replacing things all the time as the need and resources dictate.

The only ‘chanting’ I’ve ever done is to God - however, others may differ. I haven’t a clue to whom they may be chanting.

I’m not saying a room full of fit women in leotards in the Downward Facing Doggy position are doing, or attempting to do, anything sexual for my benefit.

I’m saying the visual effect upon me can be quite sexual in nature and for that I remain,

most gratefully yours,

FW

The thing is that Yoga originated in Tantric Hinduism but in the exercise form is not based on Hinduism in the same way martial arts in many cases is based on Chinese philosophy. I think we need to separate out the Hindu religious part from the exercise, just as how many of us have done so for martial arts

Yoga was developed to escape the wheel of reincarnation to more quickly arrive at self realization (godhood). Every gesture in Yoga is a gesture of reverence to one of the 32 million Hindu gods. It is antichristian in all of its ramifications. People need to look deeper at the practice than to view it as an exercise. It is much, much more than that.

It is the quickest method to achieve an altered state of consciousness. Faster than hypnosis, drugs, or any other technique for thos who have mastered it. It is not inocuous.

This topic of Yoga reminded me of Paul talking about eating the meat sacrificed to idols. Found the scripture in 1 Corinthians 8:

8 Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up. 2 If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, he is known by God.

4 Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.” 5 For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”— yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.

7 However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8 Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.

9 But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? And so by your knowledge this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died.

12 Thus, sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

Hilarious.

You’ve told us much more about yourself than the women in the yoga class.

The body is a temple. You must rest it on a good foundation. (a couch is perfect for this) You must fill it with offerings pleasing to the senses. (beer and pizza are most excellent) You must distract if from lustful activities of this fallen world. (a football game on a widescreen TV is unsurpassed in commanding attention) This is the way to train the body.

LOL.

Join the class. I did. For a few sessions. I’m in decent shape but that class was really difficult.

And don’t get me wrong, I like the visuals, but it would be just too exhausting to be imagining sex with all of them. There aren’t enough little blue pills on the planet for that. And then there is the realization that one comes to as we age ... the reality that if you think they are checking you out, look behind you. That’s what they’re really looking at. Your comments crack me up for their obvious truth and honesty.
