Will Romney's security hinder Mormon temple visits?
Independent Mail ^ | October 9, 2012 | THOMAS BURR

Mitt Romney has gone to church several times since the Secret Service began guarding the Republican nominee, but he's yet to take in the more sacred Mormon rite: visiting an LDS temple.

As the first Mormon heading a major-party presidential ticket, Romney's newfound position with a Secret Service detail raises a question of how his around-the-clock protection would affect his ability to visit The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' most holy buildings.

While the general public can worship at an LDS meetinghouse, only church members in good standing are allowed inside temples, including one just outside Washington, D.C., in a Maryland suburb.

"There's no way the Secret Service is going to put up with that (restriction), with all due respect," says Ronald Kessler, author of "In the President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes With Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect." "They will get permission and, of course, the church will understand and want him protected. They will go in."

Kessler says protectees, like presidents or presidential candidates, get a say in the level of security they need, though they also understand the threats against them at all times and are smart enough to know it would be too risky to go it alone.

"It would be ludicrous if his Secret Service couldn't protect him in any area like that where there are so many people. He would be a perfect target," Kessler says. "Even Mormons can be criminals."

Romney's campaign referred questions about the candidate's security detail to the Secret Service, which also declined comment, noting that it doesn't speak publicly about its means and methods of securing its charges.

LDS Church spokesman Scott Trotter, likewise, said the church wouldn't comment on security matters.

It is interesting that “officially” the prophesy has been refuted or dismissed, yet my large mormon family talk about it and convinced that Romney is the fulfillment of this prophesy.
So, even though “officially” dismissed, the rank and file appear to not have.

I think they are over-represented, just as in law enforcement and the military.

Do you have a source for that? I have never read that mormons are over represented in the military, in fact only read the opposite.

Prove it.
Show one anti-mormon post.
Prove that stating the truth about mormonISM is bigotry or hate.
Prove that stating the truth about Romney’s record is hate.
You keep making the charge and yet refuse to back it up with anything but name calling. (psst, Not surprised really)

Romney could get SS that are TRed and then it wouldn’t be an issue.

I don't know what a "TR" is but if it means recognition as a Mormon I say absolutely not.SS agents must *only* be assigned to the President on the basis of *competence* and *experience*,NOTHING else.Only the very best, most dependable, agents can be assigned to the President..be they Catholic,Jewish, moslem,Mormon, atheist or Buddhist.

I have never believed Bishop Romney was a sincere Mormon -- regardless of his title -- just as I know Pelosi et al aren't genuine Catholics.

Bishop Romney is a very devout and sincere Mormon, and his pro-abortion views align with Mormon teaching.

Mitt Romney was the leader that could excommunicate fellow Mormons for being untrue to their religion.

I'm sincerely interested.

Do you consider my Post 25 to be 'anti-Mormon' or "spurious history"?

Neither. I’d say mildly interesting since it’s the first I’ve ever heard of it. But I’m not real big on prophecy of any sort.

From the article-Bill Nixon, a Washington lobbyist and president of the Mount Vernon, Va., LDS stake, says the easy solution likely could be to send Romney in with temple-recommend-carrying agents.

The agents will have to be temple Mormons, not just Mormon, Temple Mormons are rechecked every two years, and reissued ID every year that they qualify.

All Temple activities are secret, and no one, not even regular Mormons are to know the details of what takes place inside the secret temples.

A powerful Mormon leader and his hand picked SS based on their certification by his religion, and no journalists, or non-Mormons, or even none handpicked Mormons allowed, it makes for more than "church services", people forget that Ann Romney's parents were not even allowed to witness her marrying Mitt in the temple, or to learn the details of the secret Mormon ritual.

Whatever. Every Mormon I have ever known (including an LDS bishop / ex Navy Seal) -- friendship of 15 years -- was adamantly pro-life. In my town LDS is very well represented at pro-life rallies. Back in the 90s when I emailed these people and asked how this Mitt guy from their religion could be pushing abortion and homo stuff they were genuinely puzzled and couldn't answer the question. Massachusetts or politics or something on the extreme coasts really corrupts people. That really isn't news, of course.

Now, Mr Irish, prove your charge of a mormon hate post.
It is a charge thrown out there, usually by people who know nothing about mormonism or who are confused as to which forum they are on.
Come on you say its on FR, prove the post, if there are so very many, it should be easy for ya.

Bishop and attorney, Mitt Romney, knows well the actual wording of his religions official position on abortion, details that a less devoted, less high ranking Mormon might not be aware of.

Mitt first requested the personal approval of his Holy Prophet before he ran for president, and he also has the full support of the Quorum of Seventy, and they know that his abortion views are in line with the teachings of their religion, and that it is not in line with the republican party platform.

August 27th, 2012. CBS Interview:
PELLEY: Well, the platform as written at this convention for the Republicans does not allow for exceptions on abortion with regard to the health of the mother or rape or incest. Is that where you are?

ROMNEY: No. My position has been clear throughout this campaign. I’m in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of the mother.
