Jesus is neither Republican nor Democrat.

No, but it is entirely possible for one or the other party to become anti-Christian.

This slide has been going on since the fight about who would take
the place of Billy Graham. At that point Billy wanted his son. This has happened all over America with men leaving their status and churches to sons. I never noticed that happening in the Bible, but it is so in America.

“Why is Billy Graham taking sides in a presidential election?...Here’s why I think he shouldn’t....”

1) He’s an American, and that is his Constitutional right.

2) Nobody cares what you think.

3) Get lost.

The legacy we leave behind for our children, grandchildren and this great nation is crucial. As I approach my 94th birthday, I realize this election could be my last. I believe it is vitally important that we cast our ballots for candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and support the nation of Israel. I urge you to vote for those who protect the sanctity of life and support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman. Vote for biblical values this November 6, and pray with me that America will remain one nation under God.

Choice between a viper and a garden snake.

(Not that Bath-House is a viper-—he doesn’t have the brain; it’s “above his paygrade”; but he’s surrounded by vipers.)

Good God—give Graham kudos for seeing the difference.

I venture that the state of this nation and the beliefs of Bh0 are beyond anything your grandmother knew and worse than she could ever fear. My grandmother died in 1982 and that is my point of reference for comparison. The USA under President Reagan vs the USA under Messiah Bh0.

Billy Graham realizes that fact and that we are in having to trust in Jesus for our souls and show our votes to expell one who is against everything that this country has stood for and who favors those who work to rid the nation of visible signs of Christianity.

I was watching the movie “Sergeant York” tonight and realized that there is no one in Hollywood who would make that movie today. And that the atheists would attack its references to York’s Christian beliefs. Watch the section where Pvt York is with his company and battalion commander, talking about his pacificism through where he is sent home on 10 furlough and then comes to his conclusion over what is the right thing to do; and that is within scriptural bounds.

It’s simple.

Christians know that religious liberty is important. We stand with those who will protect it.

Obama’s regime is trying to destroy it.

I have no disagreement with Rev. Graham’s plea that we vote for Biblical Values.

What concerns me is this — why did he have to go so far as declare Mormonism no longer a cult?

This is going too far.

This is the question that bothers me, not his endorsement of Romney ( from the article ):

So why, three weeks prior to one of the most hotly contested presidential elections in modern history, does America’s Evangelist need to suddenly declare Mormonism no longer a cult? Has there been an unreported change in Mormon theology or practice?

This thread is posted on the Religion Forum. The main guideline here is to "discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal."

Making the thread "about" individual Freepers is a form of "making it personal."

So, if you wish to "call out" certain Freepers or make the thread "about" them, then do it on some other Free Republic forum, not here.

He took the statement about Mormonism down because he knows some of his flock won’t vote for Romney based on their beliefs about Mormonism. This election transcends the differences between religions. I wouldn’t care if Romney worshiped a pancake with a smiley face... as long as his belief system meant that he valued religious freedom and the right to life, he’d have my vote against Obama.

I read about that right after Graham did that after his visit with Romney. I recall shaking my head that another person dumped his beliefs to endorse Romney.

So many have denied their beliefs to vote for someone who isn't Hussein. The same will happen in the Republican Party from now on - the candidate will always be a liberal because they know the conservatives will always abandon their beliefs and vote for whomever the GOPe wants.

The downfall of this country is coming and soon.

Anyone know anything about the author of this article? Something doesn’t smell right.

Franklin is known for passionately standing for freedom, and using His God-given right to freedom of speech. If that bothers this author, he’s a RINO for sure.

I appreciated Mitt's Mormonism (and the fact that our country is being directed currently by a Muslim).

That said, I would rather our country be led by Mitt than the communist, muslim Obama!

"Seen through the lens of history, entering the mainstream poses major risks.
If Mormons think of themselves as another Christian denomination, the risk of
defection rises. The distinctive Mormon beliefs in a new scripture and in the
possibility of joining the supernal realm for eternal life will come into jeopardy
precisely because they mark differences with the Protestant mainstream. If you
believe you are not that different from others, there will be a tendency to
downplay those practices and beliefs that suggest otherwise."

What makes you think they aren't? I mean the democratic position about people being free from religion obviously makes them against Christianity; but the Republican Party is quite remarkable in its ability to garner the support of Christians w/o fighting for Christians on any particular policy.

RE: He took the statement about Mormonism down because he knows some of his flock won’t vote for Romney based on their beliefs about Mormonism.

Hmmm... makes me wonder if he’ll put the page back up again if Romney wins the presidency.

The purpose of that page was to give guidance to Christians regarding the difference between what cults believe in and orthodox Christianity ( especially when it comes to the Person of Jesus Christ ).

It would be an act of negligence IMHO if the page is not returned after the current pressing objective has been achieved.

Billy Graham has enough sense to know we’re not electing a preacher...we’re electing leader for the country. And he’s just as concerned for our country as the pastor in Leakey, Texas that has a sign “Vote for the Mormon, not the Muslim. Vote for the capitalist, not the communist.”

They both know that our freedom to practice our religious beliefs is under attack by the Owebama regime!

That's either really great satire, or really terrible rhetoric... I can't tell which, so if it's satire, great job.
One of the big problems of the "the other guy's worse" arguments is that there is no guarantee that the endorsed guy is good, in fact it could be argued that a mediocre guy would be worse than a downright bad guy -- at least with the bad guy there will be pressures for Congress to put him in check... but with a mediocre guy, we run the very real danger of normalizing much of current bad-policy. (Ex: rampant abuse of EPA's powers give people reason to disband EPA, but having EPA "tone down" their operations while keeping the agency only means that the agency can be used again [likely with even more power as it collects more and more legal 'precedence' justifying its existence and methods].)

I got news for you Mr Wingfield, Billy graham was political long before you wera a glimmer in your fathers leftist eye. To begin with, if you are under the illusion that Obama is not a Muslim, then you are blind and ignorant. God’s people know who their brothers and sisters in Christ are, and you sir are not a brother in Christ.

You are just another leftist that wants to destroy Christianity in America. Nothing but a phony is all you are. A phony because you do not know the truth about this great evangelical man of God. If you did, you would not make some stupid statement that Graham should never enter the political ring with his opinion. Also, try as you may, you will never change any minds about Mr Graham nor his son.

To set the record straight, it was Billy Graham who told Nixon to stop communism, and it was Billy Graham who has supported Republicans for president ever since he became important enough to influence politics.

Ha may have stepped back after Nixon resigned, but he never stopped supporting the right wingers in government. So takie youe fake Christian credentials anbd head on back to the leftist pond you crawled out of scum.

You express my sentiment on the matter beautifully; thank you.

The Republican Party lost my vote with the nomination of Romney -- back in 2008 I pinched my nose and voted for McCain, later telling myself I'd not vote against someone ["fall for" the "the other guy's worse" argument] again. Romney is not someone I want to vote for, so I won't... and it's amazing how much the sentiment has become "you're voting for Obama by voting third party!" around here.
