Catholic Social Teaching: Itís Time to End the Misrepresentations

Imagine someone appealing to Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts, to justify the activities of gangs in Los Angeles. Why not? Lord Baden-Powell wanted boys to do risky things, and what’s more dangerous than running guns or smuggling cocaine or fighting another gang in a shooting spree? He enjoined upon the Scouts a stern code of honor and loyalty, and who is more loyal than a new recruit for the Crips? Who is more willing to shed his blood for the honor of the gang?

Imagine someone appealing to Michelangelo to justify porn. Why not? Michelangelo painted nudes all over the Sistine Chapel, and Hustler and Penthouse are full of nudes. Michelangelo endured the disgruntlement of the prudish, so that the figures in his Last Judgment were later provided with discreet veils and tunics and loincloths. And aren’t Hustler and Penthouse stuck underneath the counter at convenience stores? Michelangelo admired the sculpture of ancient Greece; those ancient Greeks, for their part, traded in vases depicting acts of pedophilia. So why should a busy stockbroker in a hotel not be allowed to relax in front of a television, watching whatever delights his sophisticated tastes?

Imagine someone appealing to Florence Nightingale to justify doctor-dosed suicide. She wanted to relieve suffering, didn’t she? Imagine someone appealing to Saint Francis of Assisi to justify looting for fun and profit. His heart was with the poor, no? Imagine someone appealing to Saint Catherine of Siena to justify the modern feminist. Why, Saint Catherine dared to rebuke cardinals and popes!

Imagine a lawyer returning his fee when he loses a case; imagine a television pundit suddenly admitting that he doesn’t know what he is talking about; imagine a Hollywood starlet speaking English; imagine the Cubs winning the World Series; imagine anything most absurd, and you.....

I get it. You get it. How to sell it?

Social justice, imho, is an odious term that has been quite highjacked from the Church of all places and now represents the tearing down of tradition, morals certainly, and is used now to give rise to socialism.

It is the rust of which the writer speaks, where the secular highjackers care nothing of mother, father, foetus nor infant— just send a check— rent a human tool. This enlarges numbers for the secular agenda.

......It is the rust of which the writer speaks, where the secular highjackers......

The secular highjackers are inside the church. I keep hearing repeatedly on FR that elected Catholic liberals are CINO, yet, they get the media representation and image of representing the Catholic church. I have heard not one whisper from Rome of rejecting 'social justice'. AND I have dealt with on a regular basis these past 40 years of Catholics (in-laws) that send their children to Catholic schools, and the majority of their waking moments of each and every day revolves around something at their church. The problem comes from inside the church. The JonStewart media does take great pleasure in exposing the inside laundry, and then comes the yelps of persecution. Nothing is hidden from the Creator.

I can’t say that I disagree with one thing you say. Maybe Rome is the last to know, or realize, the impact of the highjacking of their term by the Marxists, or maybe Rome refuses to cede the term, I don’t know. True social justice would be based on natural law and the unchanging principles as Jesus taught, and for which the Church is right to defend.

I consider myself an EWTN styled Catholic, rather rigid, unyielding, traditional and more orthodox. But EWTN is controversial, in the US, among more liberal Catholics, and their priests, who imho, are interested in fitting in with modern societal concerns, culture and the agenda of subordinating the Church to a lighter footprint all around.

This is the existing division occuring in the Church right now, here, in the US, the way I see it, and it is a huge mistake to judge the Church by the Church in the US. I am very sad about what is happening, but not for anything would I part from the universal Church that I know her to be, so yes I am distressed, as are you, but by the grace of God, Satan himself will never drive me to quit, leave, or despair of her. I know he is bent on conquering her, but not through me will he gain one more piece of ground in her.
