Catholic Word of the Day: NIMROD, 12-01-12
CatholicReference.net ^ | 12-01-12 | Fr. John Hardon's Modern Catholic Dictionary

Featured Term (selected at random):

NIMROD

A descendant of Noah and son of Cush. He is impressively described in Genesis as ' the first potentate on earth" and "a mighty hunter in the eyes of Yahweh." Several Babylonian cities are mentioned as being "in his empire" (Genesis 10:8-10). These phrases, brought together, seem to indicate that he was a prominent military leader respected by neighboring peoples.

Back in the 50s and 60s a nimrod was a hunter.

Due to, I believe, a bugs bunny cartoon. The term was altered to mean an idiot or moron as bugs called Elmer Fudd a nimrod sarcastically (elmer being a hunter and a jerk) and the term nimrod stuck as meaning a jerk.

Just my observation.
