Pray for our American Heroes and Nation

“Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:7, 9-10 KJV

Father God, Your man has always needed a Shepherd. We certainly have been guilty of not following Him, but You’ve always provided Him! We bless You today for our Good Shepherd. Because of You, we have access through Him to You and to Your kingdom. Thank You for never giving up on us and continuing to attempt to guide us day by day through Your Word and Your Spirit. How awesome is this salvation You have given us.

Good Shepherd, tend the sheep that are called into military service. Makes them to lie down in green pastures; lead them beside the still waters. Restore their souls; leads them in the paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake. We confess that though they may walk through the valley of the shadow of death, they can fear no evil; for You are with them. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort them. Prepare a table before them in the presence of their enemies; Anoint their head with oil and let their cup run over! We believe that because we have prayed that surely goodness and mercy shall follow them all the days of their lives. Good Shepherd, continue Your work to draw them and keep them forever in the house of the Lord.

We also ask You, our God, to shepherd those in authority in our Nation. Your way is right, so lead them in Your way. Please send laborers and people with wisdom to counsel them and show them how to fix the problems our Nation faces. It is a simple prayer, God. Heal our land.

Thank You for allowing us to pray and for answering in Your faithfulness in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Barriers And Blessings

December 5, 2012

What did Jesus see when He looked at the woman at the well in John 4? He saw someone who wanted acceptance and desperately needed to know she was loved. Most of all, He saw someone who needed what only He could give—a new heart.

It was no accident that the disciples had all gone to town to buy food. Surely, they would have tried to warn Jesus not to talk to this person—a woman, a Samaritan, and someone with a bad reputation.

Not being one to follow protocol, however, Jesus used this encounter to bless her with the truth of “living water” (John 4:10). In just one conversation, He broke down barriers of old hostilities, of gender bias, of ethnic and racial divides. And this woman became the first of many Samaritans to confess that Jesus was the Messiah (vv.39-42).

When she told others of her encounter with a Man who knew “all that I ever did,” she was already practicing the principle of “sowing and reaping” that Jesus was teaching His followers (John 4:35-38). Many believed that day, and later Philip, Peter, John, and others would preach in Samaria and lead many more to Christ (Acts 8:5-14; 15:3).

When we tell others of our own “encounter” with Jesus, we bless them with living water.

From sinking sand He lifted me,
With tender hand He lifted me;
From shades of night to plains of light,
O praise His name, He lifted me! —Gabriel
A faith worth having is a faith worth sharing.

Many . . . believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” —John 4:39

We also ask You, our God, to shepherd those in authority in our Nation.

Amen! Lord God, fashion their hearts and draw them to You. We ask You to raise up a new generation of righteous leadership in this nation, Father----a generation that stands on Your truths and is unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For the sake of Your Remnant, Lord, we ask You to save America from this present evil day. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
