Lennon was brilliant like Lenin was brilliant. Nothing more dangerous than a smart evil person.

I guess he was smart enough to go from being a punk in Liverpool to being bigger than Jesus.

Is that Genius?

Well, if in 2313 we are still humming his music—and everyone knows the tune, then I guess we will know the answer.

I can whistle “A Little Night Music” in the local middle school and a lot of the kids could finish the bar. Not so much with “Why don’t we do it in the road.”

I still think “Imagine” is Communism set to music. It should rank there with the “Internationale.”

He was genius enough to still be a subject of heated debate 25 years after his death.

John Lennon impersonator on the National Lampoon song, “Genius Is Pain.”

“I reject you F-ers what the F do you know!?!?
A bunch of middle class faggots with long hair and trendy cloths,
Look, I'm not your F-ing parents and I'm sick of uptight hippies knocking at my door with the F-ing peace symbol I don't owe you F-ers anything and all I've got to say is F youuuuuuu,
The sky is bluuuuuuuuuue.”

That's only the first verse but the song ends with a final chorus:

“Genius is pain,
genius is paiiiiiiiin.
Genius is pain...ARRRRRGH AHHHHH...genius is pain...”

So I guess he was;)

Actually he was more a genius of stealing melodies or parts of melodies from songs other people wrote. George Harrison himself said that, said he could name a song that every Lennon song ever came from. “Please Please me” comes from “Lend me your comb” and “Cathies clown” “Do you want to know a secret” comes from “Till there was you” “I should have known better” comes from “Hey baby” on and on and on. He even ripped off George Harrison, came up with “Sun King” from “Something”.

I understand before he died he was becoming a conservative.
Lennon said something about how foolish he was for writing the song imagine.

Another interesting note: Mark David Chapman wife said, "He was angry that Lennon would preach love and peace but yet have millions [of dollars]" which in my opinion is a hard core leftist.

Chapman was gunning for Limousine leftists he had a list he had to kill.

Very few people are a genius. Some people just get more attention than others. John Lennon was the later. With that said, I marvel out how people like Lennon are able to grab our attention. The Beatles music was always optimistic with a lonly under current or visa versa depending on the song) and some how that got us to give it up for him. Still, I don’t think that’s genius any more than I think I guy who knows how to talk woman into the sack is genius. In fact, you could make a better arguement that people who seek the stage (or sleep around) are simply desperate people.

Not ure where I’m going with this but, I came up with this saying years ago when I was a kid. It takes two things to achieve anything in life: The confidence to know you can do something and the insecurity to think you have to prove it. That’s John Lennon in a nut shell...a confident man that was so depserate and insecure he had to prove his worth to a bunch of strangers. Politicians are the same way.

The Beatles opened the door to the US so British crap could be passed off here as music.

I have a preference for pre 1964 music.

From an article on Hot Air:

“In new documentary Beatles Stories, Seaman tells filmmaker Seth Swirsky Lennon wasn’t the peace-loving militant fans thought he was while he was his assistant.

He says, “John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on (Democrat) Jimmy Carter.”

Maybe he wasn’t a genius, but he was smart enough to vote for Reagan.
