Hubby and I went last Sunday and absolutely loved it! We saw the “normal” non-3D version.
Our family has seen it twice already, once on opening day then again with our local youth group. Two thumbs up from all of us. This installation was very well crafted and carried out.
The 3D version is in our local theater, but my son says you can see it as 2D if you don’t wear the glasses. Has anyone else tried that?
We saw it last night. I thought it was a bit heavy on the running, fighting, and some crude and silly jokes while not spending enough time on character interaction. It seemed to lack the charm that Lord of the Rings had with Merry and Pippin, Sam and Frodo, Legolas and Gimli, etc. Still, we were surprised how quickly the time went and left the theater with wanting to see it again.
Hey if that's what it takes. As opposed to one movie per two books* in the LOTR series. They pretty much left out the last book completely!
(*The publisher didn't think a 6 part series would sell so he stacked books.)
