The Catholic Church, a Hate Group?
First Things ^ | 1/4/13 | Austin Ruse

The White House has started a cockamamie procedure where regular citizens can launch petitions and if they get 25,000 signatures the White House will respond.

Some are serious, like the one to exempt Hobby Lobby from the HHS contraceptive mandate. Some are silly, like the one asking for Joe Biden to be in a reality show. There is a petition for the arrest of NBC’s David Gregory for showing a magazine clip on his Sunday morning show, something that is illegal in Washington DC.

A new petition has gone up, on Christmas Day no less, asking for the Catholic Church to be labeled a hate group.

In his annual Christmas address to the College of Cardinals, Pope Benedict XVI, the global leader of the Roman Catholic Church, demeaned and belittled homosexual people around the world..

Catholics seem to be just fine throwing around the epithet of *hater* whenever someone disagrees with RCC doctrine and points out the errors in it.

By the standard which Catholics use then I guess the RCC would have to be considered the same, since it and they also tell others that the non-Catholics are wrong and point out what they see as errors in other’s doctrine.

Didn’t get to hear much what Catholics thought til I came to FR.

But on that evidence, grading on a curve I’ll just vote “present”.

Apparently, those who believe:

in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, and born of the Father before all ages. (God of God) light of light, true God of true God. Begotten not made, consubstantial to the Father, by whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven. And was incarnate of the Holy Ghost and of the Virgin Mary and was made man; was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried; and the third day rose again according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of the Father, and shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, of whose Kingdom there shall be no end. And (I believe) in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father (and the Son), who together with the Father and the Son is to be adored and glorified, who spoke by the Prophets. And one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We confess (I confess) one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for (I look for) the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

don't qualify as being Christian in the eyes of those who are bored now that they don't a prominent Mormon bishop they can harp about ten times a day.

As the following references show and many, many, other references would show, when someone wants to entertain them self by slandering Christians they have more than enough historical basis to slander any Christians they don't agree with.

What's really significant and worthy of note is that some people work so hard at slandering Christians, not what they claim is their justification for slandering them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protestant_Reformation

In the course of this religious upheaval, the German Peasants' War of 1524–1525 swept through the Bavarian, Thuringian and Swabian principalities, including the Black Company of Florian Geier, a knight from Giebelstadt who joined the peasants in the general outrage against the Roman Catholic hierarchy. Martin Luther, however, condemned the revolt, thus contributing to its eventual defeat. Some 100,000 peasants were killed.[12]

That's in a single year and here is part of the way Luther "condemned" the revolt:

With threefold horrible sins against God and men have these peasants loaded themselves, for which they have deserved a manifold death of body and soul.

First they have sworn to their true and gracious rulers to be submissive and obedient, in accord with God's command (Matt. xxii. 21), "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's," and (Rom. xiii. 1), "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers." But since they have deliberately an sacrilegiously abandoned their obedience, and in addition have dared to oppose their lords, they have thereby forfeited body an soul, as perfidious, perjured, lying, disobedient wretches and scoundrels are wont to do. Wherefore St. Paul judges them, saying (Rom. xiii. 2.), "And they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation." The peasants will incur this sentence, sooner or later; for God wills that fidelity and allegiance shall be sacredly kept. (So much for revolting againt the King as we did to found this nation)

Second, they cause uproar and sacrilegiously rob and pillage monasteries and castles that do not belong to them, for which, like public highwaymen and murderers, they deserve the twofold death of body and soul. It is right and lawful to slay at the first opportunity a rebellious person, who is known as such, for he is already under God's and the emperor's ban. Every man is at once judge and executioner of a public rebel; just as, when a fire starts, he who can extinguish it first is the best fellow. Rebellion is not simply vile murder, but is like a great fire that kindles and devastates a country; it fills the land with murder and bloodshed, makes widows and orphans, and destroys everything, like the greatest calamity. Therefore, whosoever can, should smite, strangle, and stab, secretly or publicly, and should remember that there is nothing more poisonous, pernicious, and devilish than a rebellious man. Just as one must slay a mad dog, so, if you do not fight the rebels, they will fight you, and the whole country with you.

Third, they cloak their frightful and revolting sins with the gospel, call themselves Christian brethren, swear allegiance, and compel people to join them in such abominations. (That is, they didn't agree with Luther although they based all of their beliefs on Luther's own writings and Luther's own translation of the Bible) Thereby they become the greatest blasphemers and violators of God's holy name, and serve and honor the devil under the semblance of the gospel, so that they have ten times deserved death of body and soul, for never have I heard of uglier sins. And I believe also that the devil foresees the judgment day, that he undertakes such an unheard-of measure; as if he said, "It is the last and therefore it shall be the worst; I'll stir up the dregs and knock the very bottom out." May the Lord restrain him! Lo, how mighty a prince is the devil, how he holds the world in his hands and can put it to confusion: who else could so soon capture so many thousands of peasants, lead them astray, blind and deceive them, stir them to revolt, and make them the willing executioners of his malice. . .

And should the peasants prevail (which God forbid!), -- for all things are possible to God, and we know not but that he is preparing for the judgment day, which cannot be far distant, and may purpose to destroy, by means of the devil, all order and authority and throw the world into wild chaos, -- yet surely thy who are found, sword in hand, shall perish in the wreck with clear consciences, leaving to the devil the kingdom of this world and receiving instead the eternal kingdom. For we are come upon such strange times that a prince may more easily win heaven by the shedding of blood than others by prayers.

I won't even get into Luther's "The Jews and Their Lies" and the consequences of that pamphlet along with Luther himself having Jews thrown out of several cities with nothing except what they could carry on their backs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Inquisition

García Cárcel estimates that the total number processed by the Inquisition throughout its history was approximately 150,000; applying the percentages of executions that appeared in the trials of 1560–1700—about 2%—the approximate total would be about 3,000 put to death. Nevertheless, very probably this total should be raised keeping in mind the data provided by Dedieu and García Cárcel for the tribunals of Toledo and Valencia, respectively. It is likely that the total would be between 3,000 and 5,000 executed.

That's in one hundred and forty years.

It's obvious to anyone honest that pointing fingers at one group of Christians and not another is an effort to spread divisions among Christians. Whether those who entertain themselves by working to divide Christians realize it or not, they're furthering the agenda of the anti-Christ leadership in this country. If that's their intent or not doesn't much matter.

Ever since the 1830s, the Church has been bashed by Jack Chick like characters. The Church being supposed to be an enemy of “liberty.” Ironically, looking back, the syllabus of errors issued by Pius IX listing the errors of modernism/liberalism, begins to look prescient. One can tell a lot about a person by seeing who his enemies are. They now include the ACLU and Planned Parenthood and the NYT among others. The bishops are slowly waking to the fact that “others”includes the Democratic Party.

I agree Christians need to come together. I have seen far too many thing by other Christians saying all kinds of things avaunt the Catholic Church like being the seat for the evil one or this pope or that is the anti Christ. Nonsense since these people of the evil One will do thing that appear supernatural. Every church has been infected by Satan period. We have to unite against his influence and that of these New Age heresies which are promoted by the evil one. We need to pray and ask for courage and discernment and repent and ask forgiveness.

This is the End of Days right here right now and we need to unite to Jesus Christ and unite the true Christians in all Churches and defend the faith. Don’t put up with the garbage these wicked people peddle.

Why do Christians fight Christians?

Dearly beloved, let us love one another: for charity is of God. And every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God: for God is charity. By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him. In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins. My dearest, if God hath so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us: and his charity is perfected in us.

Hi there, Elsie!

Since you referenced --- as 'evidence' that the Catholic Church is a 'hate group' --- the Wikipedia article on the Spanish Inquisition, you must have noticed this paragraph, which comes from that article:

"Near the outset of the Inquisition, in a letter of April 14, 1482, Pope Sixtus IV instructed the Spanish to ensure due process, allow legal counsel and appeal to Rome. King Ferdinand defiantly rejected Papal control, the Inquisition becoming thereafter a tool of the monarchy, rather than the church."

I.e., the Spanish Inquisition was run by the monarchy, overriding serious Papal objection.

Although the facts do not support your over-all metanarrative, I'm sure you deplore those who carried out this political agenda in defiance of the Pope.

blah, blah...did u sign the petition, I guess?

Hey dude I am still praying for you. Persecution IS COMING
You will have to make up your own mind though
Did Jesus die to atone for your sins or do you atone for your own in purgatory?

Rom_5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
