I believe you and the Holy Father cited correctly the Western Church. I agonize over the condition of the Catholic Church in the USA. It is shocking the socialist strain that runs through her, gets all the press and the first microphone. Depressing, but God, how I love her and will never leave her.
You should consider having a personal relationship with Christ, rather than a religion.

A relationship with Jesus Christ doesn't preclude a relationship with the Church He founded. In fact, they are inseparable. The Church is His body, His bride. He loves her, He laid down His life for her.
But you knew that.

I love the Church because she loves Him, and not because she loves me, and at her best she is sober and and obedient to His desires for fitting worship and loving works. Those two things are great mystical events, and not rote, nor Pharasee like, but a great movement of the heart carried out. Our Saviour made many promises to her, as a bridegroom would, and as the mystical body of Him, she responds to His commands as a bride would, in a very personal relationship with Him, quite willing to love and obey. He laid down His life for her and that makes it personal.
