Pray for our American Heroes and Nation

Heavenly Father, we appreciate You. We appreciate that no matter what we need, You are the I AM. All Sufficient One, thank You for encouraging us to come to You alone because You delight in providing for us. You are an awesome Father and we worship You today.

Today we stand in the gap and ask You for wisdom for our leaders in this Nation. You give liberally and without reproach! Many of them don’t know that they need Your wisdom, but Your children know differently. For Your children’s sake, grant them this precious gift of wisdom. You have answers for our economic trials and our international relations. We want Your answers to be implemented.

We also ask for their sakes that You would enlighten them. Show them that they need You. How great is Your grace that would convict and then provide and comfort. Let there be an outpouring of godly sorrow that leads to repentance among them so that we can rejoice with Your angels. Thank You for hearing and answering our prayers for a godly Nation.

We pray also for our beloved United States military. Hide them in Your secret place and let the blessing of Abraham cause them to be successful. We pray for healing of injured bodies and minds by Your grace. We ask that they would return to expressions of genuine love and gratitude from our citizens and from their family members.

We bless You today as we unite in harmonious agreement for our requests in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Wholesome Words

A while back, an Emmy award-winning actress took a courageous stand and walked out in the middle of the Annual American Music Awards ceremony. Her reason? She grew increasingly upset and disappointed by what she described as “an onslaught of lewd jokes and off-color remarks” and raw and raunchy comments by presenters, performers, and hosts. She said the evening was an affront to anyone with a shred of dignity and self-respect.

Unwholesome speech was a problem even in the apostle Paul’s day. He reminded the Christians at Ephesus that they should put away vulgarity, lewdness, slander, and obscene talk from their lives (Eph. 5:4; Col. 3:8). These were expressions of their old lives (1 Cor. 6:9-11), and it was now out of place with their new identity in Christ. Instead, their lives were to be characterized by wholesome speech. Their good or wholesome words would give grace to the hearers (Eph. 4:29). The Holy Spirit would help guard their speech, convict of any filthy talk, and help them to use words to benefit others (John 16:7-13).

We are called to reflect God with all we are, and that includes our words. May our mouths be filled with thanksgiving and words that benefit others.

Holy Spirit, we need Your help. Guard our hearts
and minds today. Help us control our thoughts and
words so that we might lift others up and show them
who You are and what You’ve done in us. Amen.

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise lie a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. We say AMEN to Your servant, Hiskid’s prayer today. And Lord on this day of testimony, we ask You to avenge the deaths of the Americans killed in Benghazi. We pray Your blessing upon the Navy Seals who gave their lives to save the Americans there, and we ask You to let all that has been hidden be revealed as the investigation of these terrorist acts continues. Give courage to our legislators to seek accountability from those whose job it is to protect our foreign diplomats. We ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Dear LORD, I pray for each and every infantry and platoon.
