Caleb Moore, the Winter X Games snowmobiler, went to be with Lord yesterday. He was 25 years old.
The young man crash landed a week ago much to the entertainment of millions watching on ESPN attempting a back flip during the snowmobile freestyle finals. Initially knocked unconscious, the X game athlete awakened, woozily, was diagnosed with a concussion and, eventually, whisked to the hospital.
While hospitalized, Calebs condition worsened. Docters found blood near his heart. This past Sunday, the Lords Day, the young mans family issued a statement that his cardiac injury had led to a secondary injury to his brain. Then, the next day, Calebs grandpa told a Denver newspaper his grandson almost certainly was not going to make it.
And, yesterday, the young man drew his last breath.
My heart breaks for Calebs family. They knew that the young mans extreme sport was inherently dangerous; that crashes were almost inevitable. Indeed, Caleb had previously broken his collar bone, pelvis, wrist and tailbone on snowmobiles and all terrain vehicles, not to mentioned sustaining at least 10 concussions.
You know it can happen at any time, said Wade Moore, Calebs Dad.
Yet, I have no doubt that the Moore family is grief stricken today. For even if you know that a loved one has a dangerous job or avocation, you still dont expect them to be taken from you suddenly.
Especially when that loved one is only 25 years old.
Calebs tragic death is a cautionary tale to all the young people reading these words: Tomorrow is not promised to you. Every day you spend above ground is a manifestation of Gods amazing grace.
Indeed, when Caleb awakened a week ago yesterday, he had no idea it would be the very last week of his young life. My prayer is that he was a Christ follower, that he spent yesterday in paradise with his Savior.
By the same coin, I hope that the young people who either watched Calebs fateful crash on ESPN or saw it on the news do not make the mistake of the thinking they have all the time in the world to get right with God.
Most of those young people can indeed look forward to a long life. But some, sadly, some are destined for a premature death, like young Caleb Moore.
Only God knows how many years each of us have on this side of the grave. But we all, old and young alike, can guarantee that we will spend eternity with rather than without God by giving our lives to Christ.
Let's bring back the Roman coliseum complete with sponsors and agents; that could likely replace Monday night football...........
A little over the top and a knee-jerk reaction on your part. This whole thing is a knee-jerk reaction. Typical liberal mindset, thinking you can save the world from themselves.
More likely 6 or 7 years once he matured enough to realize that was what he wanted to do and had the legal age to do it.
No thanks, I'll take the alternative, 75 years of enjoying life and all the other suff it has to offer that can be just as exciting........
Did you see my sarcasm tag Toad? What's the matter, you have a problem with athletes willing to go to the total extreme in a gladiator's arena? It's their choice isn't it?
“Did you see my sarcasm tag Toad? “
You didn’t provide one.
One man’s sport is another sissy’s “dangerous activity”.
That's because I didn't........figure it out liberal Code dude
Lets try this again:
Let's bring back the Roman coliseum complete with sponsors and agents; that could likely replace Monday night football...........
Do you have a problem with athletes willing to go to the total extreme in a gladiator's arena? It's their choice isn't it?
Or are you now doing the liberal back-stepping?
How can you compare the act of driving a car to get from Point A to B to an extreme “sport” that isn’t even a sport that is extremely dangerous and an invitation to inflict serious injury or death upon oneself by participating in it. Insane CodeToad.
And the buckets o’water aren’t exactly a good analogy either...If a child drowns in a bucket left unattended by a parent or guardian, they are a victim of an inattentive caregiver. Apples and oranges.
You are being rather stupid, really, childish even. Nothing in sports today requires injury, expects injury, or death, as an outcome. So go back to your bubblewrap and try thinking next time.
What are you talking about? Cars kill and injury hundreds of thousands every year, yet, you are proclaiming cars less dangerous than high risk sports?? Just because they are part of your natural life and you are accustomed to seeing wrecks and hearing of deaths you tune out the risks. Well, people in high risk sports do too. They dont see it as a terrible thing no more than you see motor vehicles deaths and injuries as nothing to bother about.
As I said before, one mans sport is another sissys dangerous activity.
Buckets, cars, sports, risks are risks, I don’t care the source or circumstance. Deaths and injuries are the result, so if you cringe at high risk sports because they cause injuries then you must cringe at cars and buckets because they do too. In fact, your comment supports my statement because at least high risk sports know the dangers but those buckets are accidents the poor toddler didn’t see coming.
Don’t be a liberal and demand the end to things you see as more dangerous than you are willing to try: If you don’t like high risk sports then don’t participate or watch them.
“If you dont like high risk sports then dont participate or watch them.”
Life is a high risk sport IMHO. We will all die from participating in it.
Guaranteed.
.
**Somehow I don’t think playing dangerous games ranks up there with a dangerous job or vocation.
Ecc_7:17 Be not overly wicked, neither be a fool. Why should you die before your time?**
Well said and quoted. I did dangerous entertainment stuff (in the air and on the ground) BEFORE I was married and became a father. Then I decided I needed and WANTED to be around, and healthy, to be with my family.
I think of a young woman that was killed a couple of years ago when the wing snapped off of her aerobatic plane somewhere in MO. She left behind two young boys. Sad.
“Life is a high risk sport IMHO. We will all die from participating in it.”
Yep, and to add to that, how many of these do-gooder liberal types demanding to protect us from ourselves are just fat lazy slobs that live a high risk unhealthy lifestyle and die prematurely from health complications but hypocritically want to lecture us on our activity choices.
Far be it from me, that I would want to legislate how you live and play. I’m 58 and still like freedom. In my past, I’ve gone fast on and off road on motorcycles and cars, performed stunts in private aircraft. I farmed grain and livestock most of my life, have spent the past decade as a OTR trucker (more dangerous than farming imo, and I’ve been run over by a few head of beef cattle through the years). I know I’d have been really angry with myself if I had ended up in a wheelchair, after starting a family, all because I had to have a ‘rush’ from doing something daring.
