If you’re Catholic, you should be respectful of the Popes wishes. If you’re not, you shouldn’t care.

These people are idiots.

I am shocked.

I know they don’t like the Pope/Catholic church but I have to wonder why they’d even care? Are they not watching “Buckwild” or something stupid like that?

Benedict’s safety is something that’s been on my mind all day today. Will he have a security detail? I can’t recall specifics but I think a book about killing him was published right before one of his apostolic voyages a couple years ago.

I’m not Catholic, but I believe Catholics are my brothers and sisters in Christ. Pope Benedict XVI seems to be a good and faithful servant of Christ. He has a reputation for standing up for Biblical truths against the tide of evil that’s sweeping the world. I’m thankful he was on the right side, and I pray his successor is even more articulate and forthright about the things that really matter in this world and the next.

As a former Catholic I wish him nothing but the best. Raging against the pope is these people’s way to directing their anger at ‘God’. But since they don’t believe in him, it just makes them all the more idiotic.

Morgana: “I know they don’t like the Pope/Catholic church but I have to wonder why they’d even care?”

They care because Pope Benedict XVI spoke out against the things this world holds dear. Had he said it’s OK to be a sodomite, kill babies, etc., these same people would be praising him.

There’s a spiritual war going on in the world, and it’s really heating up. I have never seen the lines so clearly drawn as they are now. It’s going to get worse.

I don’t see it that way. I think the faster it heats up the better. That way we can get it done with. Why let it drag on and let the evil grow more vile by the day.

Warfare, spiritual, or physical is best fought quick, hard and difinitively.

This is the internet. It’s just too easy nowadays for trolls to say stuff like this, not because they are necessarily anti-Catholic, but because they can and they enjoy the attention they get from mocking other people.

It’s also too easy to catalogue these troll comments and make it into a news article for the mass media outrage machine to dine with.

papertyger: “Why do the heathen rage, indeed!”

Because they are selfish, immoral sinners, much like we once were, and they don’t want to hear the truth. When I was doing wrong, I knew it. I tried to rationalize it (we humans are very good at that!). The last thing I wanted was for someone to reopen the sin that I had managed to rationalize and hide. It’s really just so much easier to do what’s right and live with a clean conscious, but it’s hard to explain that to someone who thinks the wages of sin are worth an occasional twinge of guilt.

I was just making the point that the spiritual war is heating up fast. Sides are being drawn, and I know which side I want to be on. The folks who bash the pope better hope they're wrong. Seriously. We're not heading toward a more enlightened age of peace and prosperity. Mankind, left to its own devices, will create hell on earth. We need the Lord to rescue us from ourselves!

Indeed. But it seems to me that this will be our 40 years in the Dez. I honestly do not think we will see God lift a finger until we as a people choose of our own volition to invite him back in.

“We” meaning the majority of America, not just people who already want him here.

They always take parting shots at everything/one. Standard behavior. The Pope or the man who was/is Pope is supposed to be the one guy on earth closest to God. So it’s the closest they can get to actually slapping God in the face.

Seriously, they do the same BS with everything. Random white people are somehow the cause of racism, random right wingers are the source of all evil. Scapegoat 101.

Let me say I am not a Catholic, would never be a Catholic and disagree with lots of Catholic dogma and doctrine.

But to issue death threats against the Pope is simply ignorant to a degree that is almost comical if were not that I believe that some of the threats might be serious.

We do not hold the children responsible for the sin’s of their fathers. The RC may have a lot to apologize for in its past. There may be things it needs to undo or make restitution for today. Threatening to kill Benedict accomplishes none of those things.

There are times I do agree a bit with leftist on some Internet restrictions. In may ways it would be good if posters on message boards had to have a verifiable name and address.

Sure. They have to blame their failures on something. They (many)know in their hearts that the Right is not the source of their problems. But refuse to admit it. They live the results of leftism daily. But they want the ‘good parts’ (as they see it) like abortion, homoeverything and the like, so they have to go with all the parts like high taxes and such, that hurt them financially and otherwise. Things that give them less resource to party.

So there sits the Big G. He isn’t known for big speeches or personal smackdowns in the modern era. And besides, he been the source of many problems for the left. Or the fact that people believe in him is a problem for the left at least. That cuts into the party fund too.

So, faced with the leftist need to place blame everywhere but the problem, the left then blamed the ‘imaginary sky daddy’ as an attempt to mock God, believers and the Right. That way they can avoid accepting the source of their problem, ‘the Left’ and themselves, and score street cred with other leftists.

God isn’t going to appear in their xBox and do anything to stop them so he’s an easy target.

And when they die and meet him, well, it wasn’t their fault they did all that. They were raised to believe he wasn’t real and since the Right saus he is a forgiving God, they have nothing to worry about.

So trashing his chief representative on Earth is nothing but ‘good’ for them. Who cares? The Right? So? They WANT our scorn. It persecutes them and feeds the excuse that A truly merciful God would forgive them because of that.

And if you think I am making this up, go talk to random libs and ask them.

I did.

Thank YOU! He's resigning, so it should be happy days again, right?

Leftists: RESIGNING! good, correct?

Nixon resigns, good, correct?

Um, NO, as a good leftist we have to beat him to a pulp. Only then will we "allow" him to resign.

And after he's dead and gone, we need to dig him up and desecrate his corpse.

THEN will it be OK with the left? No.

Gotta keep on hatin'

And at the same time proclaim that the right-wing is the REAL threat in this world.

Pay no attention to the 100 million dead courtesy of the left.

At least they weren't republicans that were doing all the hatin'

As much as a scumbag as Ted Kennedy was, I never wished him death. But I guess that's just me.

I believe this is a group effort. I was thinking of individuals. It could be Planned Parenthood, and the homo/lesbo groups. Now it's making more sense to me that it is possible and I don't think the Pope gives a moment of his time thinking about it or even knows about it. Still don't believe he, personally, has a twitter account.

As far as asking a lib anything, I'll pass.

Not really just you. I don't know anyone who wishes another dead.

The reason I finally signed up here was because the cruel talk from some here in favor of denying Terri Schiavo water and siding with her evil husband. Six years of lurking came to a quick end. So you can't say it's all the left. Evil walks in the GOP halls as well.

Strange how the previous pope was in the news then, also, showing his support of her. He died after she did while being on a 'by law' forced 'fast'.

As they say, if you’re taking flak, you’re over the target. But can you imagine how hard it is being under attack like that all the time, year after year, when you’re already old and sick.

Our retired Bishop, who is also 85, said he was happy for Pope Benedict. He said he rejoiced when his retirement from leading the Diocese was approved. I hope Pope Benedict is not terribly ill, but will get to enjoy a quiet year or two with his books and music.

I want to thank you and other non-Catholic Cristians for your good will (and prayers) concerning the Pope. He needs all the good-will he can get. Because...

OK, speculations are being flung around by the pinch, the dash and the bucket, so I'll add mine to the soup: From the moment he was elected, Pope Benedict made it clear that he hadn't wanted to be Pope: he said that the announcement felt "like a guillotine blade coming down."

Knowing that at his age he'd only have a few years, and knowing all the sotto-voce skulduggery that goes on in any big institution, especially the Roman Curia, I'm betting he has been planning for his successor from Day One back in April 2005.

He's a patient man. He's planned 15 moves ahead, putting the chess pieces in place. Now, announcing RIGHT before Lent, he's basically forcing the Cardinals to wrap it up quick, because none of them wants to be out of their Diocese for the whole Holy Season, and certainly not for Easter.

Plus, with Benedict still being alive, they can each of them come in to consult with him, personally, if they want, about his successor. And he can undermine the plotters (yes, there are plotters, too: people who side with the Enemy.) This careful planning--- I hope --- is the long-term architecture of the thing. I think Benedict's moves are wise, Spirit-guided, brilliant.

Then, Benedict is going to retire to a life of intense prayer in a monastic setting.

Something big coming.

Really big.

Good Christian friends, good people: pray, pray. pray.

Interesting analysis. When I heard that the date was so close, before Easter, my thought was, “Terminal diagnosis with *very* short time frame.” However, reading others’ thoughts has led me to think that is less likely than many other possibilities.
