Skip to comments. Is the Pope facing International Criminal Prosecution?
Posted on 02/16/2013 5:20:42 PM PST by George Varnum
Pope Benedict XVI has allegedly applied to the President of the Republic of Italy for immunity from arrest and prosecution following a diplomatic statement of intent to issue an arrest warrant for him.
Apparently an unidentified EU country wants to prosecute him for various charges related to ongoing child abuse scandals.
Pay attention to the 0:52:20 mark and beyond for the letter Rood reads about the Pope possibly facing arrest and prosecution for "crimes against humanity" re. his alleged promotion of institutionalized priestly child rape.
This is the first and only report I have seen about this development, so can't vouch for it's authenticity.
Rood is a pretty controversial character to be sure, but I can't imagine that he would fabricate something of this potential magnitude.
Does anyone else have any intel about this?
If true it would be very series indeedie (not to mention embarrassing) for the RCC, I would think.
If you are RCC I would not suggest watching anything beyond the letter, as he puts on a miter and goes off on a diatribe about the Papacy, Priesthood, Catholic traditions and other subjects pretty much guaranteed to offend you.
Arresting the POPE???? In this IMMORAL AGE of HOMOS and ABORTIONS NOTHING would surprise me. Good is BAD....BAD is GOOD....BLACK is WHITE....UP is DOWN.
In about two to three months I can use about a yard or two of this for my garden.
He needs to be shown embracing some mullahs.
Then the EU would be happiet with him.
You were doing good until you hit that note.
There is a group calling itself the “International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State” (ITCCS) supposedly out of Brussels that is claiming this. I personally think it’s a bunch of B.S.
All he has to do is join the Democrat party and he’ll get a pass.
Re your #3; As long as Congress is in session, there will be plenty of it to go around!
I have to wonder if his controversial opposition (from what I’ve read anyway) to the homosexual agenda and the abortion industry might have put him into the PC / NWO Elite’s bomb sights?
When you cross that gang, they want to hurt you - and they don’t much care who you are.
Up here in Maine we have some creative speculation going on as to who the replacement Pope might be:
“What Would You Do, If Obama Succeeds Benedict XVI as the Next Pope?”
“Qualified”??? He don’t need no steenkin’ “Qualifications”!
If George Soros and the Saudi Prince wants Obama to be the next Pope, then by Beelzebub, he will be!
I’m not Catholic. But I understand RESPECT.
This has been going on for some time - it’s some EU group, although I don’t believe it’s a country per se - that is doing this. When BXVI visited England a year or so ago, there was a British group trying to have him arrested on an EU charge (of “homophobia,” IIRC).
So they are planning to go after the pope. How about politicians? hmmm calling Bob Menedez or whatever his last name is.
Re #12: For the same reason I’d waltz into an Irish Pub singing “God Save the Queen” I suppose.
When someone with ADD gets bored, anything is apt to happen... and I think I forgot my Ritalin this morning.
Guys like me don’t usually live to be as old as I am.
You have to ask? Why does the KKK burn crosses?
I understand that the Gey Mafia has had it in for the Pope for some time now, but from what ROOD was reading in this letter and some of his commentary afterwards it seems as if the charges are much more sinister and series this time.
ROOD was strongly implying that the RCC has been guilty of major human rights violations including genocide for a long time now. He mentioned several situations that I had not heard of before.
I think of ROOD as sort of a religious Rush Limbaugh; he is entertaining and occasionally informative, but hardly diplomatic (although Rush has had some diplomacy and discretion beaten into him over the past few years).
I don’t worship the “Messianic Matador” or even accept everything he says, but I do find him to be terribly interesting. He makes, IMHO, a compelling theological case for the return of the Christian Faith to our original Hebraic and Biblical roots.
>> Does anyone else have any intel about this?
Yes - I’ve just heard the same from a Catholic theologian friend. The pope, a brilliant academic, has repeatedly handled situations requiring “delicacy” poorly:
1/ The church is essentially dead in Europe, and the pope has not been effective in reversing this.
2/ His non-support of Turkey entering the EU.
3/ His statements to the Jewish community.
4/ First on the list, however, is his stonewalling of the sex abuse scandals, and in fact ordering his bishops to continue the coverups.
5/ His bringing former Archbishop Mahony (Los Angeles) to Rome after the sex abuse scandal his Archdiocese endured. (It is my understanding that the current Archbishop - Jose Gomez - after reviewing the records of these 508 cases, has refused to allow Mahony to perform any duties within the Archdiocese - the largest in the United States).
Is this a big deal? Yes - the last resignation occurred nearly 600 years ago.
". . . but I can't imagine that he would fabricate something of this potential magnitude. "
Right, he wouldn't fabricate it but,
". . . he puts on a miter and goes off on a diatribe about the Papacy, Priesthood, Catholic traditions and other subjects pretty much guaranteed to offend you."
he is a dedicated anti-Catholic who spews lies and half-truths about Christianity and the Catholic Church that are sure to offend Catholics.
Anyone who "can't imagine" Rood fabricating and/or repeating anti-Christian and anti-Catholic lies and garbage probably can't imagine someone pumping out little anti-Catholic comic books full of lies, either.
The day is young...
“This is the first and only report I have seen about this development, so can’t vouch for it’s authenticity.”
Authenticity? You really think you can authenticate the BS you just slathered all over the website?
Seriously? What are you going to do? Ask this anti-Catholic bigot to tell you if it’s on the level?
Do reseach? Ask for intel?
You sound very suspiciously like a banned quack ex-freeper.
I hadn’t heard about the comic books!
He seems to sell plenty of DVDs but I didn’t see any comic books for sale on the site.
Maybe they all sold out...
Methinks you generalize a bit with the term “Anti Christian”; if we can separate the FAITH from the RELIGION and examine the history of the Christian Faith, it can be demonstrated that a plethora of man-made rules and traditions as well as residual pagan influences have infiltrated and adulterated the Faith over the years, to the point where it bears little resemblance to the God centered relational community that followed the example and commandments of it’s Lord and Master, Yeshua HaMasshiach (a Hebrew name which, after centuries of churning in the linguistic laundromat, is now more commonly known as “Jesus Christ”).
To the extent that ROOD wants to get back to the basics and dispense with ego-imposed human adulteration, you could say he’s “Anti Jewish” too. He wants people to follow the life style and discipline specified in the Torah (Bible) rather than what a bunch of Rabbis and Pharisees dictated over the years.
Institutionalized, establishment “religion” has probably done more to destroy humankind’s relationship with our Creator as well as one another than all the public schools and colleges, bars and brothels combined.
That, I opine, is what ROOD is opposed to.
I will concede that he slaughters a lot of cherished pet sacred cows with reckless abandon, and that practice does not make him universally popular by any means.
I think you’ll find that despite his unabashed anti-establishment theology, he is in fact very pro-God, pro-Bible, and Pro-Christ.
Garbage like this begs for the lightning.
An ‘unidentified’ EU country? How pathetic. They won’t even identify themselves.
Theologians are a special breed.I know a few and met one a few months ago.We ended up in a big fight. He said Obama was a wonderful Christian man and deserved our vote. The Pope is terminal wants someone in place at all times.
Whoah; guys!; I didn’t come in here to burn anyone’s cross or unload any crocks of kakka on the Queen’s carpet.
Notice my title is posed in the form of a question, not a statement; I come begging for feedback, elaboration, confirmation or rebuttal, edification even.
We’ve gotten some very useful and constructive intel and feedback already, for which I thank contributors - but are the flame throwers all that called for here?
Can we have an intelligent discussion without all the scatological invective and threats of banishment?
I sort of thought (hoped) that the days of FR flame wars were behind us. I have been around a while, and have seen some doozies. It’s one thing to ruffle a few feathers, but quite another to set the chickens on fire.
You didn’t notice that ‘Rabbi’ Michael Rood (or whatever his real name is, wherever he really comes from) is a four-alarm kook?
I can certainly see how he could come off that way to a lot of people, especially when he goes waddling around in his Old Testament Prophet’s costume with that funny crooked walking staff of his.
He denies being a “Rabbi” although I think he does claim to have a fair amount of theological education of some sort.
I guess I just have a soft spot in my head for interesting people... and Rood certainly is, IMHO anyway, interesting.
Thanks again for all the constructive feedback; it has added a lot of depth and perspective to this issue.
Essentially, that's what The Book of Revelation says will happen in the last days. Not that I think we're getting close. I think things like this will go on for a long while B4 we get to the End Of Days.
keyword: 88 allegedly**
Forget it folks, move on to another thread.
Forget it folks, move on to another thread.
I think we (Christians) all knew these things were going to happen; or have seen similar.
Won’t go into the blather about the video, but basically the Vatican City is a sovereign state, no one can jump in and arrest anyone there. The rest of the argument is equally daft.
dunno who rood is, but after what you said, I don’t care either. He’s just your run of the mill Bill Maher type — useless, senseless and spouting lies. It would be good for you to ignore him as well
Sorry, but many of the points you raise are wrong or half-true:
1. It's not "dead in Europe" -- I live in Poland and the Church is anything but dead there, or in Hungary or Croatia -- even in Western Europe there are pockets full of life, even in England and France and Germany Catholic Churches in places are filled with the faithful
2. non-support of Turkey -- no continental European, secular or otherwise really supports Turkey entering the EU. Only the Brits do that.
3. His statements to the Jewish community? Jewish Leaders Praise Pope Benedict Following Retirement Announcement
4. "ordering" -- ok, where's your proof for this? On the contrary we see more opening and apologies
5. For Mahoney -- no idea
Finally, nope, it's a big deal, but an 85 year old man retiring is surprising? In the past medicine was not so advanced to keep someone really old carrying on. So this is not surprising for an 85 year old to want to retire from a very strenuous spiritual, mental and physical job
Err... Jesus IS God
this Rood seems anti-Christian
Yeshua HaMasshiach (a Hebrew name which, after centuries of churning in the linguistic laundromat, is now more commonly known as Jesus Christ). -- another piece of rot. Christ or Christus is Greek for Messiah. The language of the Jews at the time of Christ was Aramaic with quite a few knowing koine Greek, the lingua franca of the Eastern Mediterranean
From the beginning, Christians were called Christians, not Messiahians, or they were called Nazareans
Yeshua in Hebrew is itself a post-Exile modification of Yehosua
He wants people to follow the life style and discipline specified in the Torah (Bible) -- again if you got this from Rood, his lack of knowledge is appaling -- the Torah can mean either just the first five books of the Tanakh or the totality of Jewish teaching and practise
if the former, then sorry, the Torah <> Christian Bible -- the Christian Bible includes a lot more books, if the latter than sorry, the Torah DOES includes what Rabbis and Pharisees dictated over the years -- sheesh, what an idiot that Rood is
Institutionalized, establishment religion has probably done more to destroy humankinds relationship with our Creator as well as one another than all the public schools and colleges, bars and brothels combined. -- wrong again, God Himself gave an institution to the Jews in the form of the priesthood of Aaron and the Levites
Wrong again that God, Jesus Christ called the Church His Bride, an institution whichever way you cut it
There was no John the Baptist type itinerancy rather a community that gathered together to council and discuss important questions like "do we take in Gentiles" and so on and so forth
News for Rood -- the Church is in Christ's plan, without it you have kooks like Rood or Ellen G White or Charles Taize or John SMith...
Michael Rood has been offering dogmatic predictions of exactly how Bible prophecy will be fulfilled in immediate contemporary history since at least 1998. From that year to this, he has promoted to his supporters yearly a number of very specific scenarios to be fulfilled within months, none of which has ever yielded any fruit of fulfillment.-- George, note the last. Jjotto, thanks for the link
As each proposed scenario has failed, he has offered excuses for that failure and gone forward to offer an alternative scenario for the upcoming year. And yet each such alternative has also failed. This process is extremely typical in the history of the "End Times Prophecy" movement. Rood is only one in a long line of men (and a few women) in the past two centuries and more who have gathered a following around their dogmatic and bombastic proclamations regarding end-times events
In addition, Rood has a strong tendency toward mixing wildly speculative material in with solid Biblical teaching in a way that totally muddles just where solid Biblical or historical fact leaves off, and where his own pure conjecture starts. If his audience was made up entirely of Biblically-knowledgeable people, this would likely not cause much problem. Such listeners could filter out his speculation. But his primary appeal seems in recent times to be individuals with very little or no foundation in studying the Bible. And thus they might well be expected to swallow his teachings whole, making no distinction between Roodisms and solid Bible content.
A “rood” is a crucifix. I wonder if Michael Rude knows that?
Have read that expose’ Jjotto linked to with interest; thanks for that. I do like to consider alternative perspectives to an issue, including this one.
Back when I was a Baptist Deacon and contemplating ministry (fortunately my wife talked me out of it) I taught an adult Sunday School course on cults - from which I learned a lot.
In my perusal of Rood’s material I have seen a few red flags pop up here and there, and as interesting as his stuff is, I am not about to swallow it hook line & sinker.
Most ministries as well as political movements, I have found, are like a meal of cod; you have to chew carefully and spit out a few bones on occasion.
Some species of IXUS have more bones than others, but I have yet to find any that I dare swallow whole without getting something stuck in my craw.
Also, I should have made a better distinction between “Torah” and the “Tenach” or Bible with it’s 66 Books (if you subscribe to the KJV sans Apocrypha anyway).
I’m still trying to sort out just what Messianics are talking about when they say “Keeping Torah”, besides ditching Christmas & Easter and going back to the 7th Day Sabbath and Biblical Feasts.
I also have a problem accepting the cannonicity of the Talmud, but that’s just me, so please don’t take it personally.
An extended theological debate isn’t what I came here for, and I haven’t time for it even if it would be true to topic.
Speaking of topic; Have heard that PBXVI is planning on living out his days at the Vatican in an attached Monastery; I wonder if part of the rationale behind that is to provide sanctuary for the rest of his life?
This is assuming, of course that there is some credibility to these claims of an outstanding “warrant” or serious intent of prosecution by some legitimate international court. I don’t think we’ve come close to establishing that at this point, have we?
True, no external authority short of an invasion and destruction of Rome and the Vatican (which the “prophecy” of St. Malachy suggested) could effect him there, but it seems that he would be under virtual house arrest.
Has anyone noted the recent arrangements by the Vatican to move certain operations from Rome to Jerusalem?
(Might need the tinfoil helmet for this one): http://seeker401.wordpress.com/2009/07/27/papal-throne-to-move-to-jerusalem/
What’s up with that, do you suppose?
We certainly live in interesting times.
In my perusal of Roods material I have seen a few red flags pop up here and there, and as interesting as his stuff is, I am not about to swallow it hook line & sinker. -- sorry, but all his stuff is rot, and posting anything from his "preachings" is falling for his stuff hook, line and sinker.
Actually you get it wrong again, the Tanakh is the canon of the HEBREW Bible, it hasn't got 66 books -- it has 35 (if you include the Ketuvim) -- seriously, you didn't know that?
