From the Article: Why is the Church so concerned with sex? Because sex has ‘everything to do with love’

This sort of statement is dangerously close to Sex = Love which has the unfortunate implication that Rape = Love -- Which is outright false.

Bernardin’s “Seamless Garment” was always INTENDED to focus attention away from abortion.

If some truly pro-life bishop had propounded the “Seamless Garment” metaphor, it might have been acceptable. But Bernardin was one of those Jadot bishops who always treated pro-lifers like the scum of the earth. One of the great pro-lifers of all time, Joe Scheidler, has lived and worked in Chicago for decades. Bernardin never acknowledged the existence of Joe Scheidler, unless it was to sneer at him.

The “Seamless Garment” was always made up of abortion—and a bunch of debatable, negotiable liberal issues. It never was about the inviolability of innocent human life.

“Intellectually dishonest” theologians and politicians have abused Cardinal Bernardin’s famous “seamless garment” image of Catholic moral teaching to “justify turning a blind eye” to injustices such as abortion, contraception and public funding for embryonic stem cell research, according to the head of the Vatican’s number two office.

Sorry but this is patently false. Bernardin's whole effort was aimed at stiffling the effect of the pro life movement in the Church and giving cover to the pro abort movement among prominent Catholics. This is exactly what Bernardin wanted.
