That is exactly what the Bible is — the work of many different human beings with many different perspectives, all trying to explain things to their specific audiences.

That’s OK — it’s the nature of things. There is much to be gained from the Bible and its wisdom, but you have to read it intelligently, understanding that it is a human work. Otherwise, you’ll twist yourself up like a pretzel trying to make one thing here fit with another thing there.

Between scribal error, deliberate insertions and deletions, and centuries of translation and retranslation, it would be virtually impossible not to have places where it contradicts itself.

Take what inspires you. Use that. That’s all people really do anyway.

>> “Many people think that our modern new testament was written in Greek, but was it ?” <<

.
The gospels were written by men that were barely literate in their native Hebrew, and there is no way or reason for them to have written in any other language. The Greek came later, when the congregations that Paul had gathered in Greece desired to have the word in their own language.

any editor would likely try to clean those things up.

Which is why one principle of textual criticism is that the "dissonant" version of a text is usually more likely to be the original, or at least closer to it. If scribes are changing the text deliberately, which we know they did, they will be much more likely to try to harmonize the texts than to try to make them dissonant.

The Textus Receptus is not an original — far from it. Elementary textual analysis (and I do not claim to be an expert in the field, just a person who has read experts) shows clearly that it is a later, highly edited text. Again, we do not have originals.

It's like the hearing test tone where you have to push a button when you hear the tone.
It gets louder if you ignore it.

Last night I could not articulate what I wanted to say.
What I was driving at was the ways of man, or the traditions of man, the influence that this culture has on us, the thinking of the mind of the natural man.
I understand what you mean that we should watch out and pay attention the things that are going on around us, or things said and be prepared, however ? if we are listening to God's word, and God's voice would he not be the first one to warn us of danger ?
As Pastor Thomas Jakes ( T.D. Jakes ) said in his sermon on YouTube ( why did God chose me ) he said he got tired of the counsels of man, the fodder of man, and I would go on and say, the concepts, the ways, and yes, man's traditions that they have set up.
He found comfort in in God's word and a reason to go on living.
When it all boils down to ? God is the only one worth listening to.
I don't care what the main stream media has to say any more because I tune them out of my hearing, and out of my mind and I am more at peace because of it.
I tune out what people have to say if it is not what the spirit of God is telling me.
My brother was fit to be tied and worried when he kept listing to the media talk about how North Korea is going to fire another nuke missile.... I was not worried any more, I told him ? It will be over for us when GOD says it's over.
I told him I am not worried in what North Korea has to say or does, it will be over when God says it's over.... not before.

Contradictions in the Bible is truth or God's mysteries hidden in plain sight.
Also the bible is not to be understood by man's intellect or human reasoning because human reasoning and man's intellect is flawed compared to God's ways or thoughts.
The bible is to be understood through the eyes of the holy spirit... and what does the bible, or Jesus say sometimes ? he who has eyes to see, let him see, or he who has hears to hear ? let him hear what the spirit of God is saying.

God uses the simple things to confound the wise ( according to human standards ), or the wise, proud, puffed up and arrogant.
God resists the proud, but gives his grace to the humble.

Those who don't see refuse to see.

God uses the weak things of this world to bring down those things that are high and mighty.

If you’re looking for true originals of texts that are millennia old, you’re going to be looking for a long time or require a time machine. The Masoretes are the offspring of elder scribes that were equally rigorous in copying out the scriptures, and the New Testament is not so old as to require the same rigor, although close to it. Masoretic rigor requires character-by-character transcription, and nothing is ever copied from memory.

The problem with those religious leaders in Jesus's time was even after all the people Jesus healed, after all the news that he walked on water, claimed the storm, raised the dead, they still after all of that still wanted a sign to believe.... and he didn't disappointed them, he rose from the dead after 3 days.
Just like the children of Israel being delivered from Egypt, going through the Red Sea, and still they harden their hearts against God in unbelief.
Doubt is a matter of the mind, unbelief is a matter of the heart and will.
They chose to not believe.

The History Channel

Liberals giving us a liberal slant on what the real history of the bible is and giving us a bible course ? what could go wrong with that ?

I would heed the advice of many holy spirit filled Christians and not watch it.

" He happens to be one of the finest New Testament scholars on the planet. "

And what I have to say about that ?

So what, I don't care one bit.

The Holy Spirit is better at revealing the truth about the bible, and teaching Christians than some 2 bit world renowned so called bible scholar.

Remember ? the Bible it's self tells us that the Holy Spirit leads us into ALL truth, not some liar world renowned so called bible scholar.
I don't care how many P.H.Ds. and degrees he has, I am not going to put my trust in some man.
Holy Spirit will do just fine for me.
That's where many people get lead astray with itchy ears when they hear the words " A world renowned bible scholar ".

Seminaries sound a lot like Cemeteries.

Anyway, Man's ways, concepts, doctrines have crept into the church and have polluted, twisted, and perverted what God's word actually has to say.
I myself ? stay far away from organized religion, organized dominations... that's just me.
Religion keeps men away from God, but Christ and God's grace brings men to God in a relation with God through Christ, and Christ lone... not man, not man's ways, not even the Pope.

If the people of Nod are NOT descended from Adam and Eve, then presumably there are descendents of theirs who are not descended from Adam and Eve...

Demons? It fits with Cain's character or lack thereof.

" The gospels were written by men that were barely literate in their native Hebrew "

But with the power of the Holy Spirit and the message of the Gospel they tuned their world upside down.

Noticed that ? they didn't go to seminary school, they were not puffed up in their pride in their education, they were un edumacated.
You see ? the ways of man, the systems of this world has placed education up on a pillar and worshiped education, man's intellect as GOD.

The systems of this world, those who are proud in their ways, the haughtiness of man's abilities, his intellect, those so called " Experts " in all things tend to forget what the bible has to say about that....

Yes TBP, God has a lot to say, God's word has a lot to say about these so called " Scholar world renowned experts "

Read here and see what God has to say.

1 Corinthians 1: 18 - 25

Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom

18. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19. For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”
See that TBP ? read on.

20. Where is the wise person?

See that TBP ? read on.

Where is the teacher of the law?

See that TBP ? read on.

Where is the philosopher of this age?

See that TBP ? read on.

Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

Oh yes, that's a repudiation of Man's so called " wisdom " man's so called " Intellect " and come to think of it ? look where man's wisdom has got us ?

21. For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him,

See that TBP ? read on.

God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

See that TBP ? read on.
The wisdom of this world disdains the message of the cross, this world's so called wisdom and intellect disdains God's word and wants to discredit it... but it can not.

22. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

The hard headed, stiff necked, hard hearted, knuckle heads refuse to believe and keep asking for a sign, and the philosophers, the so called experts are all in Alice in Wonder la la land dreaming all kinds of imaginary things.

23. but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,
Yes, but we preach Christ ? and him crucified, it's a stumbling block to those who refuse to believe and foolishness to this world's so called " Experts " and philosophers because it's not compatible to their human reasoning, or worldly wisdom.

24. but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

25. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

Did you get that TBP ? need to take a double take on that one... God ? if it were even possible ? God's foolishness is wiser, greater, than man's top of the line, would renown, so called experts.

Homer Simpson,, hand on forehead....Doope !
WOW ! See that TBP ? a real eye opener, isn't it ?

Now your getting it buddie.

Read on TBP.... read on my friend.

26 to 31

26. Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called.
Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. see that TBP ? no so called world renown bible experts there.
Read on my friend, read on.
27. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
28. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are,
29. so that no one may boast before him.
30. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
31. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

No one can boast in the sight of God, but if your going to boast ? let the one who does boast boast in the Lord, boast in God's love for you.

The accounts of the crucifixion are hopelessly irreconcilable. Jesus cannot have said the things he is reported to have said if, as Mark tells us, he was silent the entire time.

That's not how I see it. If you decide you do, it's up to you. What I would like to know is how this affects the truth about whether or not it happened? Are you implying that the whole story was made up? By whom and why? If the crucifixion didn't happen, then I guess you would also say the resurrection didn't happen either? If these events didn't happen, then are you saying Christianity is a false faith? To say that you don't believe the accounts can be reconciled, you have to take the next step to explain the consequences. If, indeed, they are "hopelessly irreconcilable", then what next? Toss out the whole Bible? What's your answer?
