Phillippe Cardinal Barbarin could barely get through the “pope”-arazzi in St. Peter’s Square. The French cardinal has been biking to Vatican meetings.

Phillippe Cardinal Barbarin, who has been riding his bicycle to Vatican meetings this week, could barely get through the “pope”-arazzi in St. Peter’s Square Thursday morning.

Barbarin, 62, is one of the youngest princes of the Catholic Church. In addition to French, he can speak Italian, English, Spanish, German, and Malagasy.

At 62, Barbarin is one of the youngest cardinals who will pick the new Pope.

He is not seen as a front-runner for Pope, but is against gay marriage and once said it was an act of “charity” for Catholic priests to deny pro-abortion politicians communion.

From Wikipedia: "He was created Cardinal-Priest of SS. Trinità al Monte Pincio by Pope John Paul II in the consistory of 21 October 2003. He was one of the cardinal electors who participated in the 2005 papal conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI."

I already like him.

You have to admit, seeing a platoon of Cardinals in full regalia, doing drill & ceremonies on Segways, would be almost hypnotic.

Cardinal Tagle also rides a bike in the Phillipines. I thought this was going to be about him.

Healthy-looking gent. He looks a lot like my pastor, except for his cool French bicycling hat.

once said it was an act of “charity” for Catholic priests to deny pro-abortion politicians communion.

Well, yes. It is an act of charity. It is, more importantly, a very blunt and very necessary call to repentance.
