Wow .. so much for someone under the age of 70. He is neither an outsider nor an insider. He is a Jesuit. He is the son of a railroad worker. From Wikipedia ..

Bergoglio became known for personal humility, doctrinal conservatism and a commitment to social justice. A simple lifestyle has contributed to his reputation for humility. He lives in a small apartment, rather than in the palatial bishop's residence. He gave up his chauffeured limousine in favor of public transportation, and he reportedly cooks his own meals.

Bergoglio is an accomplished theologian who distanced himself from liberation theology early in his career. He is thought to be close to Comunione e Liberazione, a conservative lay movement

Outstanding!

"First off, the Holy Spirit does not pick the successor to St. Peter. At the beginning of the conclave, the cardinals pray for the grace of the Holy Spirit, that a worthy Shepherd of the whole flock of Christ be elected by us."

Ahhh okies. I've learned something new. So Catholics don't claim that God picks the Pope. Interesting.

Is there a point in time that you can referrence where God interacts with the new Pope? Like, three days after he enters Popedom, he can expect a visit?

Oh good! A conservative. I was concerned it would be some liberal, gay marriage type.

-— I once heard Cardinal O’Connor preach. (Again, non-Catholic here). Wow. That guy was amazing. ——

Thanks for joining the celebration.

God Bless Cardinal Bergoglio!

Great choice. Argentines are Italians with a Spanish accent.

I pray he is at least 1/2 the leader John Paul II was. The world needs that sort of Pope today.

That sounds hopeful.

Let us pray for our Sovereign Pontiff, Francis I.

The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not unto the will of his enemies.

A bit long in the tooth at 76, I had hoped they would go with somebody a little more youthful and vibrant, so we wouldn’t be going through this again in another couple years.

From his Wiki:

“As Cardinal, Bergoglio became known for personal humility, doctrinal conservatism and a commitment to social justice.”

Social justice, is another way of saying socialism, I think you’re screwed, imo.
