I guess it was all my years in marching band that I just love this stuff. All the different uniforms, etc. Really cool.

NYer, is there someone you are hoping for?

No ... each one has unique qualities and gifts. I expect that whoever is chosen is a humble and sincerely prayerful individual. The weight, not only of the Catholic Church, but of the entire world, is on his shoulders. He prays for everyone and must also serve as a Head of State. We'll know shortly. Wow .. what a huge crowed .. 7:40 pm in Rome. The weather is cold and rainy but you would think the sun were shining looking at the joy on their faces. God bless our new pope!

You must be thinking of Peter Ustinov! Yeah, he made a pretty good Nero! Another one was Anthony Andrews; he played him in “AD” on t.v. in mid-80s. He was a little bit too thin, but he was a more sadistic Nero!

Rush said this, just yesterday:

....I would say the Catholic Church is on its way to irrelevancy if it doesn't start distancing itself from the Democrat Party and the idea that liberalism equals charity. Because liberalism does not equal charity, and that's how the church got sucked into supporting Democrats. Not just the Catholic Church, but all religions got sucked in to supporting the Democrat Party and all these movements, all these social causes, because they began to equate government largesse with charity. And it isn't.

It would certainly be very interesting if the new Pope were Italian, and either named Peter or chose the name Peter.

Not likely, though.

Why all the excitement about a new Pope?

This man is 266th in an unbroken line of successors to St. Peter. Essentially, he is the "vicar of Christ" on earth. He is a spiritual father for all of us. His first title is Servant of the servants of God.

The word pope actually means "papa". The excitement is with everyone wondering which of the 115 cardinals was elected. A papal election is not like a secular one. It is just the reverse; none of the cardinals wants to take on this tremendous responsibility. The one elected is asked: "Do you accept"? Once he does, he gives up the service he gave in his previous post and now takes a new name.
