And so what was the great and generous application of Summorum Pontificum in the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires? One Novus Ordo-TLM hybrid once a month. And, as it happens to any badly celebrated Latin Mass, the number of attending faithful fast dwindled from one hundred to a handful. And, naturally, it was discontinued. So, as correctly mentioned in WikiMissa, there is currently not a single actual Traditional Mass according to the 1962 Missal celebrated by diocesan priests of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires. And every priest who tried to truly implement Summorum in his parish - that is, out of their own initiative, without "authorization" from the Bishop - was ordered to stop. It is what happened to a poor priest who tried to do it in the chapel of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in October 2007, and was personally ordered by the Archbishop to stop in November 2007. I have no concerns whatsoever about the continued growth of the TLM under our new Pope Francis. He will not do anything to undermine the freedom Pope Benedict granted to the TLM. And unlike Pope Benedict, I would not be at all surprised to see Pope Francis publicly offer a TLM some day.
Seriously.
The man has a deep devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, practices the Five first Saturday Devotions, and prays 15 decades of the Rosary each day.
After he meets with Pope Emeritus Benedict, reads the 300 page dossier on the VatiLeaks scandal, and reads the rest of the Third secret of Fatima, he will be a different man than he was as Archbishop, then Cardinal, in Argentina.
He just strikes me as the type who, once he learns something is the Lord’s Will, he will simply make it his own. I suspect under the influence of our Pope Emeritus and the rest of the Third Secret we will be pleasantly surprised by his pontificate.
I hope you are right and I am totally wrong.

To be honest, I went over to the Rorate Caeli blog and I was really unimpressed with some of the comments over there. I expect the National Catholic Distorter, aka Fishwrap as Fr.Z calls it to moan and groan because of Pope Francis’s staunch defense of human life and stands against abortion and euthansia and his defense of traditional marriage but when I see Catholics who pride themselves on being “orthodox” going off on the new Pope, well, I expect more from those guys. The distorter types that write for Fishwrap propse heretical stances and are defacto schismatics. Sad to see the Rorate Caeli blog acting in many instances no different than the National Catholic distorter/fishwrap folks
I have not read all the comments from the recent posts by Rorate Caeli.
But I also think there is a difference in a dogma of the Church that cannot ever be changed (say abortion) and attacking the Pope over that versus a matter of discipline.
Furthermore, the Papacy over the past 50 years or so has to get a failing grade when it comes to discipline. Look at the statistics of the worldwide Church. Yes, I know in some places like sub-Saharan Africa things are much better, although in places like Europe things are much worse than even here in the US. Worldwide priest shortage, sacraments being ignored, Mass being ignored, natural law ignored, and so on.
The last few Papacies do deserve a lot of the blame for this! I do not know how else to put it. Maybe the new Pope Francis will surprise me very nicely, but I do not see him as the tough guy needed not just for reform the Curia after Vatileaks, but even more we need a Pope to reform the mass of lukewarm priests and lukewarm at best laity.

Actually, it may be that liturgical reforms, or restoration or whathaveyou just aren't his main gig.
On second thought, maybe if he reads the full Third Secret he will immediately call a TLM!
Liturgical matters apparently haven’t been very high on his list in the past. No reason to believe things won’t continue as they are under Summorum Pontificum, even if true that he’s been biased against the Traditional Mass. There are far greater concerns for him to deal with at this point.
St. Pio said: “Humility, humility and always humility. Satan fears and trembles before humble souls. The Lord is willing to do great things but on condition that we are truly humble.” We seem to have a very humble Holy Father. Instead of stressing out about his potential liturgical inclinations, it makes more sense to take St. Pio’s advice and simply “pray, hope and don’t worry”.

Fully agree with your nice, informative comment but that's getting tough, even just the secular matter of health care going forward has me practically without hope and chronically overwrought.

I think by and large, the last 2 Popes were excellent but like all men, they had their weaknesses and failings. I for one can’t seem to grasp the fact that because Pope Francis is not the Liturgical Scholar that Benedict was [Pope John Paul II was not either], that he will reverse Pope Benedict’s decree on the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Liturgy. While Pope Francis may not like to celebrate it, I don’t think he will impede those Catholic orders, i.e. Institute of Christ the King, etc, to continue to be dedicated to celebrating the older form of the Roman Liturgy. I found the comments over at Rorate Caeli lacking the basics of Christian Charity and Hope, which along with Faith, as any orthodox Catholic should know, are the 3 Theological virtures as stated by St. Paul (cf. 1 Corinthians 13:13].

I am not so sure Pope Francis is humble and this appearance of humility is not instead scruples. The Pope should not pay his own hotel bill. The Pope should not wear simple clothing. The Pope should not ride in a bus instead of taking a bulletproof car.
Seems more likely that he's attempting to follow St. Ignatius' advice: "The despising of one's self in the midst of honors and riches, and disdain for all glory, should be esteemed more highly than corporal mortification."
We can't expect a Jesuit who's spent half his life immersing himself in Ignatian spirituality to abandon the results of his spiritual formation in response to being elected Pope.
