The consecration of the Host happens at 51:47. The consecration of the Chalice happens at 52:32.
I cannot believe I am about to type these words.
The Pope DID NOT GENUFLECT after either consecration. He did a weird bow thing, but didn't feel the need to bend his knee to God Almighty, physically present in his hands upon the altar.
HE. DID. NOT. GENUFLECT.
This is absolutely stunning. And unprecedented.
Oh yeah, we're in deep, deep trouble.
But hey, all of you guys who are sending me emails whining about how I'm not nice, or something, go ahead and explain this one. He is perfectly physically sound. He FREELY CHOOSES to not reverence Our Lord in the Eucharist upon the altar.
Oh, and he also didn't genuflect to Our Lord in the Tabernacle when he went to Santa Maria Maggiore on Thursday morning, either. Um, how can a man truly love Our Lady if he doesn't first show even the slightest respect to her Son? Someone please explain that one to me.
Hey! I have an idea! Let's do a Pope watch. First one to see the Pope genuflect to Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, and not to a Superfun Rockband church pastor, wins! In the mean time, everyone should pray for Pope Francis and that he learns to show Our Lord the tiniest bit of respect and GENUFLECT to Him after He comes down onto the altar, and whenever he approaches or crosses the plane of a Tabernacle in which Our Lord is physically present. I think that would be a great prayer intention for one and all.
I never occurred to me that my desire to do penance in reparation to Our Lord for the sacrileges of the world would include the consecration rubrics of THE POPE.
Kyrie eleison. Christe eleison. Kyrie eleison.
oh my we are in deep kimchee, the devil has strengthened his filthy little hand in the vatican.
Anne, I have been watching my priest and I can tell you this, I am changing churches to a real Catholic church this Sunday.
Pope Francis has already tripped twice that I’ve seen and I don’t even watch that much coverage. Just possibly he has difficulty genuflecting. I do too, and our parish priest said a bow is fine; one just needs to show respect.
He is perfectly physically sound.
Is he? He's a 76 year old man. Can he physically genuflect, especially the number of times he will be expected to?
Second, what is the traditional South American ritual at that point in the mass? Do they bow or genuflect?
Failure to conform to forms isn't necessarily a spiritual failing ~
If this lady is so upset about it then she needs to kneel twice next time she goes to Mass.
Ann needs to calm down a bit.
Who cares what South American custom is? All that matters is 1 the Roman Missal, and 2 the Pope’s health. I suspect number 2 prevented compliance with number 1.
Barnhart is simply determined to hate this pope.
Where did this nutjob get her Doctors degree and get to examine the Pope.
I genuflect in Church when I have something to hold onto so I can get back up, but left on my own with Arthritis I cannot get back up.
I am only 70. The Pope is 6 years older than me.
I think this author needs to rethink her blast.
I’m sure they will love her at the SSPX.
She needs to do more than calm down. She needs to go to Confession.
Didn’t they come up with some punishment devices or something a long time ago? Time to wheel a couple of them out ~ see how that woman likes it. People who have no respect for their elders in the twilight of their lives are just fascist pigs.

Ms. Barnhardt,
I think they need to up your dosage. This is the very sort of thing that the lefties point at and laugh about when they say that the right is full of incoherent derp.
If Mel Gibson’s dad wasn’t already married and pushing 100 years of age, I’d swear Ann was angling for a date with him.
Thank you for this E.
I believe Ann is absolutely correct; I have been grieving Pope Benedict’s decision, I believe he was deceived and tricked by satan to resign. He may not have even realized what he was saying. People should shut the hell up. And now we have a demon for pope: I will not capitalize either satan or the current pope.
Deep, deep trouble? Really. You sound a little like Obama on the sequester.
Anne, now tell us what you think about Christ hanging out with whores and tax collectors....
No kidding. If watching the depth of bows is important to you, spend time watching the President.
I am going to cut the Pope some slack on this considering his age, but I have noticed over the years a decrease in genuflecting in front of the Tabernacle by priests, altar servers, and the general population. The fact that it is no longer a requirement to genuflect or kneel before receiving the Holy Eucharist is aiding in this mindset. My knees aren’t the greatest, but I genuflect as far down as I can go when entering and exiting my pew and when I walk past the altar where Jesus is. I also go down on two knees when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed. It hurts like the dickens, and sometimes I have trouble getting up again, but as long as I can, I will.
I don't recall anyone but the Moslems teaching the doctrine that the physically or mentally handicapped are doomed to hell because they can't engage in the proper contortions.
Are you sure you're not in the wrong church or something?
well buddy, you got shut down, now deal with it
he has one lung and pins in his knee. Ann is getting ocd

And I’m 80 and have the same problem. This woman is an idiot.
.
Ah, plug it up, lady.
The guy is not a young man. I wonder how many older people struggle silently in church because they don’t want to make a scene. I know that my mom did.
I’ve had many friends visit my church who weren’t Catholic (funerals, weddings) and they thought that it was some kind of exercise class.
If the tabernacle is present at the altar, then the celebrant genuflects ONLY when entering and on leaving, but NOT during the mass itself. If there is no tabernacle present (like at most modern US churches), the celebrant genuflects at the presentation of the host, the chalice, and at communion. So it sounds like this took place at an altar that has a tabernacle.
People are getting desperate to find fault with this man. He didn’t genuflect. So what?
Peter asked jesus that - why do you go in a house of sin, whores, house of a tax collector ,ect.. jesus says, “Thats where the sinners are”..
oh good grief

Compared to the military junta accusations, this is nothing. I think the Pope won’t lose sleep over this criticism.
And here is a picture of the Tabernacle in the Sistine Chapel.

There’s nothing worse than a Catholic who sees him/herself as ‘more Catholic than the Pope’ Obviously our writer Ann is one of those. Pray for her. She really sounds unhinged and or demented.
I will also point out that the celebrant does not have to genuflect on entering and leaving if he is part of a processional, which of course is what took place.
I suspect the disgust at her overreaction is itself registering as overreaction.
I take it you’re not a fan of Mel Brooks?
I’m not sure it is a woman’s place to correct the pope.
It has been done. Google Catherine of Siena.
The world is so utterly screwed and lost through godless deception PING!
What does the Bible teach about when and how to genuflect?
