Evangelical Leaders Back Universal Background Checks for Gun Buyers

Two of the nation’s leading evangelicals are throwing their weight behind President Barack Obama’s push for universal background checks for all gun buyers, a measure that faces stiff opposition in both the House and Senate.

Rev. Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse, and Dr. Richard Land from the Southern Baptist Convention told TIME Magazine they supported the proposal.

“As ministers, we agreed together that we could stand on a united front for universal background checks,” Graham said. “We think that’s reasonable and responsible.”

I wonder how they would feel about required background checks prior to purchasing religious material...

Might be trying to corrupt the minds of impressionable youth.

It’s for the children, don’t ya know...

So rights granted by God are to be taken away by “reasonable” men, huh?

Then shouldn’t reasonable men ask for property taxes from churches? God didn’t grant prop tax exemptions to churches. Man did. Thus, it would be a much lesser change to request taxes from churches. Come to think of it, shouldn’t Lady Gaga come into their churches and preach? After all, she’s real popular, she could do wonders for the sizes of their congregations.

Some folks should just keep their mouths shut.

Hey Franklin, stick to something you understand, like the Gospel.

Apparently you don’t know how to apply the Gospel to real-life issues.

As the most pro-life, conservative voters in America, we need Evangelicals, but I don’t know why these two would even care to offer an opinion on something like this, it doesn’t seem related at all to religion.

Their problem is they trust the government to weed out criminals and those who are truly mentally ill. They don’t see that corrupt politicians, leftist doctor/nurses...can claim someone is mentally unstable because they are conservative. I don’t think they are thinking this out.

I think it’s reasonable to believe that such measures are incremental steps in regulating away our ability to exercise our rights. Perhaps they should do some research and realize that gun ownership is not the cause of our problems with violence.

Where in the Bible does it say/require a believer to disarm be it spear, sword, slingshot or powder? These men should be forthright and say/make clear these are their personal feelings and not of biblical origin. Come to think about it otherwise I wonder if there were clergy who supported the 2nd Amendment- I would think so but will be interested in Graham’s and Land’s elucidation.

I fear that I am beginning to mistrust all leaders.

It seems that the one thing that I can trust about men is that no man can be trusted.

I feel like I am in some place where the only light is Jesus Christ and all other lights are false.

I no longer can recognize this world, nothing is what it seems :(

The rest of the story..."poison pills" are added that Obama the Clown will never accept:

But their support come with conditions. Graham wants the president to tax violence in Hollywood films and use part of the money to help victims of gun violence. Land said President Obama should improve the nation’s mental health system. He emphasized that his organization does not support the ban on assault weapons, which passed out of the Senate Judicial Committee today.

Still, a universal background check is more like registration--and this is what these two men need to be told.

Franklin Graham does NOT support Obama. Neither does Mr. Land.

“As ministers, we agreed together that we could stand on a united front for universal background checks,” Graham said. “We think that’s reasonable and responsible.”

Now I agree that it sounds perfectly "reasonable". But just a simple check on history, and reaching a simple understanding that the 'god of this world' is running things in Washington D.C., should allow one to see through such nice sounding notions. Knowing these things (and I'm sure these ministers know them), these ministers are acting like judas goats.

Perhaps because non-religious people are trying to tell them how to think about gay 'marriage'.

That said, Graham and Land are completely wrong.

Among Europeans there was only one religion that counted until the French Religious Wars. Although it wasn't intende by any of them in the beginning (they fought those wars for political power), at the end the Huguenots refused to stack arms like the Catholic forces had done, and that's when the First Amendment was revaled to mankind by God Himself!

The Second Amendment was revealed later on in America, but they had to invent the place first!

The Samaritans Purse and the Southern Baptist Convention have recieved my input:

http://www.samaritanspurse.org/our-ministry/contact-us/

Universal background checks only affect the law abiding and not the criminals.

“And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.”Luke 22:36

I knew Franklin Graham has more political smarts than just giving obama what he wants. He put stipulations on background checks. He KNOWS obama won’t do anything to hurt his base; Hollywood. This also points the finger of hypocrisy at obama and hollywood.

I wonder why these "leaders' are so supportive. Churches are automatically tax-exempt under the Constitution. The 501 C-3 status allows corporations to limit indemnity of their leaders at the price of goverment oversight. These 'leaders' have abdicated their esponsibility and traded autonomy under God for man's approval.

"They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.”"

The churches in Germany were happy to go along. Most of them just sang louder.

Although we might live in a time or place where we as an individual are invisible and impotent or even persecuted, we can read the bible and know that we are part of something larger, and something bigger than our own personal life or period in time.

But it is sure hard to remember that sometimes when our time is one of regression and we are caught in having to witness and live in a period of decay and loss, of man moving backwards before our eyes.
